Out for Blood...

Archive: 31 posts

OK. I want to talk to you guys about something.

This is similar to killzonequinn's thread, but it is specific, and I don't want to clutter that thread.
It seems the biggest problem atm is Clay_20_November (AKA Clay_21_November or Clay_Big_Guns). Everyone else should be ignored for now.

The specific thing I'm talking about is Clay_Big_Gun's level; "The Unfair Platformer (UPDATED)".
That rings a bell, no? You may have heard, played, enjoyed, rated five stars, and hearted Dr_Vab's level - The Unfair Platformer, he also made a sequel!
Now Clay has decided to try and rip him off and get some plays and hearts out of it - milking another person's level. We need to boycott this - it's gone too far, too fast. He has copied the style TO THE LETTER, but he has done it in a really immature fashion. Clay_Big_Guns (and all the other accounts) must be boycotted! Via chain Private message.

Thank you,
Richasackboy

I don't think these threads do anything but promote hatred and fuss. A lot of levels have been copied, let the guy have hearts or stars, they're nothing but a tool to come back to a level or show what a level might be.

However, it is very annoying...
I don't want to be like this, but I don't think this will do much.

Lol, did you expect anything less from this guy? It's what he does, he isn't going to stop. Besides this isn't the only copy of Unfair Platformer, I saw several others pop up after #2 was published.2010-04-20 04:29:00

To be honest I don't think you even need to request anyone to boycott them lol I know I certainly avoid them anyway, of course I do go and play their levels on the cool pages sometimes just to remind myself why I do so 2010-04-20 04:33:00

Also, chain private messages are awful. I hate having to go through my inbox and delete them, and I most certainly dislike reading them. You'll never really be able to stop him by not playing the level. He has multiple accounts, he can get as many plays as he wants.2010-04-20 04:38:00

I may be sounding like a pacifist here (and you may be right)... but malevolent actions aren't always the smartest thing to do, particularly when dealing with someone like Clay_20_november, a user with (apparantly) alternate accounts.

You've got to realize too that levels like "The Unfair Platformer" will always have impersonators. It's just a fact that popular levels with simple concepts will be replicated several times (Try telling me one time you didn't see two "EPIC SHARK SURVIVAL" levels; that's right, you can't). Besides, wouldn't be unjust for people to copy off long-time platforming series like Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog?

I say just ignore the little squirt. Sooner or later, Mm (or Sony, for that matter) will read the numerous "Good-Grief"s that he's accumulated over his 3 or more accounts and ban him. Either that or he'll just get bored of it and go the way of lemon_and_gravy.

Doh, not another one! I'm starting to feel like a proctologist with so many @$$holes leaving their bad smell around this community!

Good grief him. Encourage your friends to do the same. Since so many other levels get taken down for no apparent reason, it's reasonable to assume that it wouldn't take too many good griefs to get him noticed by Sony. It's totally anonymous and won't bring any backlash on yourself. Of course you could just take the attitude"there'll always be people who spoil the party so just bury your face in the jelly and pretend they're not there", but no matter what anyone else tells you, ignoring those people who repeatedly urinate on your french fries is not the only option in life.

I believe this existed way before Dr_vab did the first LBP unfair platformer

Let them do their thing. If you are enough creative to come up with your own ideas, do so. If you aren't that creative and need to "copy/take inspiration" in another levels/internet flash games, well, do so.

Peace!

Eh, whatever. I'm still not the only one who's tired of him - and I've looked at that game, and it doesn't look that much like what Mr. Clay has done with it - it looks exactly like Dr. Vab's rendition. Oh well. I'll just go with Ungreth's suggestion. =)2010-04-20 14:58:00

But the point remains - the unfair platformer is not a Dr_vab original concept, it was a tribute level. Almost all of the gameplay from the first was directly lifted from the flash game. If one creator is allowed to make a level based off the flash game, why can't another?

The fact that you started to stir up a witch hunt without even any proper understanding of the scenario shows exactly what is wrong with people in this game. And now you have no justification for your vendetta you move forward with the stupid argument of "I'm tired of him". WTF is that? Simply because you are tired of someone else gives you the right to abuse the moderation system to attack another person?

This is exactly how people like poms and steve_big_guns get targeted for moderation. Some sad, malicious individuals decide that they are fed up with the other person for some arbitrary reason (typically for having more exposure and fame than them, which is probably the route cause here, if we are to be honest) and they decide to lash out and punish them for it.

Hey, I'm not a malicious or sad! >=(

I just don't like Clay_20_November! At all!

If his levels dominate cool pages, how am I supposed to find good levels to play? Do I have to use the Search Engine ALL THE TIME? It's not a vendetta either, and the fact that he uses many of the same mechanics as Dr. Vab's makes me wonder. The Music is the same. The material use is the same. Some of the puzzles used are the same (levers to bring down the next set of levers).

Have you actually played the level?

Why can't good levels be on the cool levels pages? It just is really annoying! It's really annoying for a lot of people!
Exclamation mark.
And it is not the cause here. It's just that no one can get their levels played - it's been taken over by a user with multiple accounts that he uses to keep up his "fame".
I'm not the one being the malicious individual - He's the one who is the bully; not letting anyone actually get their levels played.

everyone knows the cool levels pages are awful, so just use the search engine. If you're too lazy to do that then don't complain! Also, whats wrong with making a tribute level to a flash game/ LBP level that you enjoyed? How many theme park levels are there? hundreds. But because they arent based around something speific they don't raise fuss; this is just a rediculous request if you ask me (sorry to be so blunt)2010-04-20 18:14:00

Wait wut? You're turning this into a slur about Cool levels? That's not one guys fault - that's always been broken. If it wasn't this guy you're complaining about, then it would be someone else!

Just sayin'

I think we all need to just play and enjoy the actual game, rather then get all annoyed by it.

Oh, and drink some tea while we're at it.

He is using the system to support himself and further his own goals. You want to use it to punish someone else who has technically done nothing wrong. Do you really think you have the moral high ground here?

The cool pages will never be a place to find the best levels. Even if the algorithm was modified to reduce the importance of repeat plays, it would still be shaped by popular opinion, which in this game is governed by children, who (in general) tend not to have very refined tastes. The fact that the cool pages is a joke is not this guy's fault. He has just capitalised on the fact that it is broken. I'm not saying I respect him for it, in fact I think it is pretty shallow and pathetic. But there is no justification for you good griefing him, simply because he is famous and because you want to vent your frustration about the poor quality of the cool pages by making him the scapegoat.

As agent banana says, there is no reason to get annoyed by the cool pages, or the spammers. Don't visit the cool pages, you will find your life a lot happier. Also, tea is good.

Chain Private Messages only lead to trouble. In fact I received a chain mail from my freind which was attempting to turn The LBP community against steve_big_guns. Unfair, No? I shouted at him for spreading information he didn't even know was true. He's deleted btw... And I didn't beleive any word of it. Steve's great and I ignored the message.2010-04-20 18:52:00

Why would anybody want to go against someone who endlessly creates fantastic levels for our entertainment? I can understand being upset with Clay_21_november theough, he has been single handedly clogging up the already defunct cool pages for a while.2010-04-20 19:02:00

Sigh...far too much pacifism (translate: apathy) around here. When did the human race lose the will to fight? Seems that the only acceptable reaction is inaction these days.

No other creative community accepts plagarism, so why should we?

Richasackboy...if you believe that a creator getting credit for blatantly ripping off other people's ideas is inherently wrong, then don't tolerate it. The good grief sytem is there for you to say "this aggrieves me", so if you genuinely feel aggrieved then use it for all it's worth. If others feel the same way, then band together. There's always strength in numbers when it comes to instigating change. Maybe the level won't get taken down, but at least you'll know in your heart that you drew your sword to fight instead of burying your head in the sand.

Also never watch Dark Island.

Attempting to convince someone not to fight, by explaining why there is no genuine justification or basis for their fight is anything but pacifism or apathy.

In some cases, inaction and tolerance are the most suitable reactions. That viewpoint doesn't make me a pacifist, it makes me civilised. Heaven forbid we should forsake reason for knee-jerk, over-the-top reactions to every minor annoyance that comes our way.

And neither will good griefing him. It will simply make you feel better about lashing out at someone. If you really think that's the correct course to go, then fine, go for it. Just remember that you are lashing out for your own satisfaction, not for the "greater good". Don't lie to yourself and dress it up as some noble fight for justice, as Ungreth would have you do (oooh he's so poetic in his anger ).2010-04-20 21:30:00

A positive course of action would be for members of LBPC to band together and arrange a date for flooding the cool pages with truly cool levels they've been working on.2010-04-20 21:49:00

Now I don't agree with rtm or flamingemu so I'm just gonna disregard you two - It's not me wanting to get on the cool pages. I'm being serious.
Ayneh has the right idea, though! But how will we do it? We'd have to use the republish trick a lot, and publicize. Also send pms to our friends about it.

Oh, well excuse me for indiscriminately jabbing at innocents with my nasty ol' pitchfork. How ignorant of me to assume that the grief system sanctioned by Sony was the appropriate outlet for players to put their stamp of disapproval on levels that offend them. If I ever have the audacity to use militant propaganda to instigate such violent civil unrest in our quiet little community again, then take me to the woodshed and whip me with a Mr Kipling's Battenburg!
