Having been a fan of the Silent Hill series for some time now, I thought it would be great to pay homage to one of the greatest psychological thrillers of all time by making a music level. Now my first pick would have been something from SH2, but there's a plethora of Promise Reprise's and True copies out there. So I thought I would go with something original.

Seeing as Shattered Memories is fairly new, I wanted to introduce others to a song I really enjoyed from the game. I chose "Acceptance" by Akira Yamaoka," because its slow steady rhythm paired with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's voice really drives out the sadness and desperation of the main character.

Unlike all the other games from the series, Shattered Memories overall design is different. Instead of that rustic look were all so accustomed to seeing, SM takes on a "hell frozen over" design. So likewise I followed suit.

So if you're feeling inclined to listen to some chilling music, or bored with 5 minutes to spare, check out my level and leave a comment.

Looks pretty sweet Mike.

I'll definitely check it out next time I'm on LBP.

Wow. I was going to make a level based on this game too, lol. xD
I actually know this song on the piano, so I'll try it out when I get the chance.

For those of you who have never played SH, or just aren't interested, I employ you to reconsider whatever preconceived notions you may have about Shattered Memories. I too thought that it was going to be another SH4, but it seems to have slowly grown on me. I don't know whether its the ingenious psychological profile Konami added to the game play, or if its the fact the flashlight invites the player to really inspect your surrounding as you would in real life.

Either way, the music is still great. So if you're in the mood for some easy listening check it out and let me know what you think.

I took a run through this.... Beautiful. The music and scenery you provided are nice and atmospheric. I don't have a lot of feedback, except to say that if you wanted to put some time in you could build a full experience out of it.... such as things happening as you drive through the town. Maybe check out IceMaiden's frog music level for inspiration. You could to swaying trees, lighting flashes and thunder - REALLY drive home the atmosphere.

But, really nice the way it is.

Well done. I'm a sucker for song-based levels and this is one of the better ones I've played, in large part because it makes sense to move along the level in a car given it is based on Silent Hill, as opposed to say, a car in a level based on Castlevania

Only thing I'd want changed is for the car to move slightly faster, though it really isn't necessary at all.

(You could also be funny and throw in a UFO hovering past you when you get to the scoreboard)

As you already know, I liked this level. Akira sure knows how to compose a song and you sure know how to import it in LBP.
If you're gonna do more Silent Hill music levels, I'd recommend "Room of Angel"
It's one of the most beautiful songs in the world and I'd really like to hear it in LBP
Keep up the good work, laddy.

Well thanks for the feedback, I knew there had to be more Silent Hill fans out there. As far as level design is concerned, I'm slowly making revisions as time goes on. However, there is one teeny little problem, lag time. I've noticed the more things I add to the level, the more blips there are in the music. I'm sure there's got to be a way to resolve this, but I don't have a lot of time.

P.S. the cars speed is slow only to accommodate the speed of the song. I could make the car go faster, but that would only make the distance twice as long. Either way, you're stuck waiting.

lol, I don't think a UFO fits at all.

It fits in when you consider Silent Hill's tradition of bizarre secret endings.2010-04-19 01:44:00

Hah, that sounds great! Well, I've got some things to attend to but I'm considering adding the UFO. For being a beginner, breaking down musical notation is rather time consuming.2010-04-19 23:23:00
