Hey everyone, i'm new to the forums and i'm currently making a survival challenge level where you have to keep jumping from platform to platform that move to the left by a conveyor belt (without the actual belt, just the rotating circles) and i'm not sure how to make it speed up over time to make it more challenging. I've made a car that has a magnetic key switch attached to it and a magnetic key at the other end where the car will stop. The magnetic key switch is connected to all the motor bolts of the conveyor belt. And the vehicle starts moving when the event is activated. But the speed fails to increase, infact it's MUCH slower than before.

Am i doing it right? and does anyone know how to increase the speed of the conveyor belt? Please help

Is the magnetic key switch set to 'speed'?2010-04-15 23:41:00

Well, my way is to put a piston, moving closer to a key with the key set to SPEED.2010-04-15 23:42:00

Yes the switch is set to speed but it still doesn't work. And i tried using a piston but when the event starts the conveyor belt doesn't work at all, but once the magnetic key reaches the magnetic key switch it moves at around the same speed i put the motor bolts at. And piston will keep going back and forth aswel. Is there anything else i can do?2010-04-15 23:44:00

No that makes no difference. Although, pistons are easier to use, so yes.

Anyway, I think your problem is, set both the key switch and key to a unique colour that you haven't yet used. Now make the range of the key switch as big as possible. Also give the block on a piston a long way to go to get to the key switch.

Try that, and tell us what happens.
(Sorry, not the best explainer)

Ok i set the magnetic key switch to inverted so now it basically always runs at the same speed even as time progresses, but it will stop at the magnetic key.
Ok this is kind of what it looks like. + is the magnetic key switch and = is the magnetic key.
+________________________=

And it will always go at the same speed throughout that line. But as it gets closer to the magnetic key it should be increasing speed. know there is something i'm missing because i've seen the media molcule video where they show you how to create a survival challenge but it doesn't go deep into how to make the speed increase over time. So anyone know what i'm missing?

How big is your speed switch radius? It should be going all the way out to right next to the switch.2010-04-16 00:00:00

Have you tried increasing the speed of the motor bolts for the conveyor belts and having the speed of the motor bolts for the CAR at a low setting? If the car travels to fast the speed for the conveyor belt won't get to it's maximum, thats what happened to my spinning object. Might also help to make the track for the car longer and maybe it's possible if you have something heavy on the conveyor belt that due to the weight it slows it down. Thats providing you have something on it of course.2010-04-16 01:35:00

once the magnetic key reaches the magnetic key switch it moves at around the same speed i put the motor bolts at.

That's how a speed switch works. The speed-set keyswitch's maximum speed is only the speed of the conveyor belt. Also, maximum speed has to have the key as close to the keyswitch as possible. Have you tried making the conveyor belt much faster?

Ok well thanks for the help, i'm going to try some things you guys suggested, i'll try increasing the motor bolt's speed and also i'm going to make the track the car runs on bigger but put more magnetic key's on it so the radius is always inside the key. I hope it works...i'll be back to post my results.

Ok so it still doesn't work. I made the track twice as long for the car to travel on and i also made more magnetic key's going along the track and i also increased the speed of the motor bolts to 10. So now when the event starts it starts of slow, then gets to it's maxium speed which is kind of hard to stay alive but you could stay alive for a long time still. It reaches it's maxium speed before it even hits the half way line of the track. It should be increasing speed past 10 after the half way line.

It would be much easier ingame. My Psn is Bluetoes1. I'll be on most of today so please help

Ok sorry for the triple post. But i've managed to get it so the speed will increase as time goes on. However by the time it reaches the maxium speed it's impossible to stay on because by the time a platform spawns you will be over the over side. So i need to find a way to decrease the time it takes to emit a platform over time. It's currently at 3.5 seconds and at the maxium speed thats way too high so it needs to be decreased over time. So can anyone help me or tell me how i can do that? I've tried the same thing that i used to increase the speed of the motor bolts and it doesn't even spawn a single platform. Help please

There are various things you can do to achieve that. Firstly, you can just set the emitter timing to something very short, the previous platform will block the next one, so it should just spawn as soon as the previous one is out of the way. In addition, if you have the first few rollers moving faster than the main ones, then after the platform is emitted it will get a boost to catch up with the previous one, meaning there will be less of a gap.

Alternatively, you can have the emitter triggered by a switch. If each platform has a mag key on it, then you can detect once the last platform has moved to a certain point it will trigger a one-shot mag switch to emit the next one.

BTW, double posting is frowned upon really, especially in such short succession. There is an edit post button that should be used for cases like this

Hey Blue,

I've merged your three posts above. I will ask that you familiarize yourself with the edit button (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb3_reading_posting#faq_vb3_editing_de leting) in the future.

Glad you got it all sorted out.
