Lbp rp

I noticed there was a section of the site dedicated to Artwork and Creativity and I thought, well why not role playing? For those who don't know what "RP" stands for in the title - you guessed it right! It's an abbreviation for role playing.

Role playing is pretty much interactive writing, like writing a story with other people who will all contribute to the main plot. Each member of course could post a character description or profile in a separate forum or have the first post specifically editable for each member to post the descriptions of their characters. From there, each rper posts in turn to develop something similar to a miniature novel. I've even seen rps that were worthy of being a novel. ^^

To break it down further, usually an rp goes something like this - The first poster or the Host, starts a thread with the title of the role play, often something relevant to the storyline but that's the host's choice. The host can also describe rules, guidelines and preferences for the rp and what limitations or quirks in the story each member should keep in mind when posting. In the first post, you'll often find that the host has already described a setting and what his or her character is doing, seeing, smelling, hearing, etc. The more details the better! For example, it could be in the Savannah or even one of your very own levels, or some place completely made up? From here, each rper can post in turn and describe what their character is doing, seeing, smelling, hearing, etc. Was your character already present? Or do you need to have him or her make an entrance? Or perhaps your character was just sitting idly in the corner by his or her lonesome, watching the events unfold? Let your imagination run wild and you'll find that some amazing reads that you never thought possible are coming from your own fingertips striking the keys at your keyboard! It's a very exciting hobby, and one I've found enjoyment doing for years. I think an rp in the LBP setting would just be fantastic, but truth be told, it doesn't even have to be limited to just LBP. And you can write as much or as little as you want, although keep in mind a minimum word count is usually one of the guidelines a host will set. Whenever a poster feels they have reached a good stopping point, just stop. Now it's another rpers turn to post his or her characters entrance or involvement, action or reaction, thought or speech, or all of the above? Each post moves the main story one step further. There can be as many or as few role players as you want, and this is another guideline hosts will usually set, but sometimes you'll fnd some that are limitless. And rps can be joined at any time unless otherwise stated by the host. It's creative writing at its finest in my opinion.

Keep in mind, role playing isn't for everyone, but for those who enjoy it I think it could make LBP Central an even bigger and brighter community.

Well, that's just a summary of what role playing is really like, but for more information on role playing, you can always search for it online. There are thousands of forums specifically dedicated to role plays, but I've also seen plenty of forums like this with a specific section for role playing and I think it would be an easy addition to a site like this. Not to mention, sites and forums that are role play friendly can usually draw in even more members.

What do you guys think? Writing your actions out with great detail and letting your imagination run wild in writing is just so much fun, and it could be just as fun as actually playing Little Big Planet. Interactive writing is one my favorite hobbies. I've been doing it for years and I'd love to see a sub-forum or section dedicated to it here on the site. I'd be so happy! ^^ I plan on using my writing talents to write reviews for levels too. Eh, I'm a writer to the core, what can I say? Lol!

So, feedback? And I don't know if this has already been suggested or not, if so, my deepest apologies for looking it over.

Paragraphs. They're your friends.

Anyhoo, I have to say that these type of "games" should be made in the Forum Games section.

I actually did post it in paragraphs the first time through, but it didn't post that way. I'm thinking maybe because it timed out my log in and made me put in my username and pasword again in order to post. Or it could be the computer, sorry about that. But it's all fixed now! ^^2010-04-14 02:23:00

That would be very supportive. Thanks! ^^
And to CyberSora, I've browsed through the forum games section and I've found that if you try to include rps there, users are going to have a hard time filtering through which posts are actually forum games and which posts are actually rp related. A sub-forum would work best there at most. Thanks for your feedback! ^^

Well, why don't you expirement first? We're a great site with amazing people, so I don't think seperating forum game posts from role-playing posts will be too hard for us.

So, why don't you make a role-playing thread, and then we'll see if it this section is needed.

Well yes, but if he's so eager to make a new role-playing section, then surely he wants to make his own role-playing thread. 2010-04-14 06:26:00

There have been many rp games already in the "Forum Games" section, which is bascally for that, i don't see a point in branching it out for every single kind of game out there.2010-04-14 06:33:00

nah i dont think there needs to be a role playing section. Why not add a little tag in the title so you can tell eg. [RP]The best Roleplay ever...that way people can tell?2010-04-14 06:34:00

I just took a look through the Forum Games and it seems like a few rps have been attempted but are now dead. The most recent I see, unless I looked over something, died out in February. I'm not suggesting that ALL rps posted here aren't successful, however the very few I have come across are in fact, dead. The reason these rps aren't thriving is because role players aren't catered to here. Taking that into consideration, keep in mind that in order to support a sub-forum or even a successful rp period, it would take a few members interested in getting something like this going to advertise it and set it into motion properly, otherwise all the rps posted within will die out as well. It's not hard at all to market to an rp fan base, not to mention there are tons of benefits that can come from it. I've done this before and found GREAT results and if given the chance, I can do it again with the right help.

When I suggested role plays at a previous message board years ago that was pretty much dead, myself and a few others started advertising and brought in plenty of members who wanted to role play and it really livened the place up and it turned out to be a very successful board. If I find that there are enough members willing to support it, I'll round up those interested and start making great things happen. And trust me when I say this, role players can really bring it to the table when it comes to forum communities. So even for those members not interested in role playing, keep in mind that role players are typically active little buggers that LOVE to socialize, mingle and make friends. So even if you don't rp, it will still affect you in some way, shape or form and more than likely, the affect will be in a positive manner.

So I suppose I'll do this. Even if a sub-forum or role play section in itself is not permitted (no big), I'd still love to gather up some members interested in role playing so that we can at least populate the forum games section with some great material. And who knows, eventually, if we grow in numbers enough, we might get a chance at a sub-forum after all? So here's to being hopeful!

If anyone is interested in role playing, please message me or post here. You can also contact me via information listed on my profile. Thanks guys, let's make this happen! ^^

The fantastic thing about that is - you don't have to be! ^^
When I first started role playing, I was no good at it either, but I still thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. As a matter of fact, when I started, I was role playing in short form. (i.e. - *walks over to friend* Hi (name)! How are you today? *smiles*) Eh, maybe not the best example but you get the idea? Nowadays, I write in paragraph form with correct punctuation and grammar, capitalization and my posts are typically closer to 1,000 words a piece. I've really improved and you could too if you do it long enough. Role playing is a really fun way to improve your writing and imaginative skills. And if you're self-conscious about your writing, flock together with other writers that are on or around your level of writing, and together you can still make a good role play and eventually move up to advanced role playing in no time.
Hope that helps! And thanks for showing interest, it's nice to have a little support on this. ^^

The reason they aren't thriving is because there isn't enough interest in them, and making a sub forum won't increase interest enough. Just use forum games like everyone has suggested.
