Disney's huge secret

Archive: 151 posts

This scared me in a way only the concrete music of Michel Chion can, where it can open up the darkest, most sick and twisted corners of your imagination to evoke feelings of isolation, insanity, schizophrenia, and apocalypse.

The story:
So do any of you remember those Mickey Mouse cartoons from the 1930s? The ones that were just put out on DVDa few years ago? Well, I hear there is one that was unreleased to even the most avid classic disney fans. According to sources, it's nothing special. It's just a continuous loop (like flinstones) of mickey walking past 6 buildings that goes on for two or three minutes before fading out. Unlike the cutesy tunes put in though, the song on this cartoon was not a song at all, just a constant banging on a piano as if the keys for a minute and a half before going to white noise for the remainder of the film. It wasn't the jolly old Mickey we've come to love either, Mickey wasn't dancing, not even smiling, just kind of walking as if you or I were walking, with a normal facial expression, but for some reason his head tilted side to side as he kept this dismal look. Up until a year or two ago, everyone believed that after it cut to black and that was it. When Leonard Maltin was reviewing the cartoon to be put in the complete series, he decided it was too junk to be on the DVD, but wanted to have a digital copy due to the fact that it was a creation of Walt. When he had a digitized version up on his computer to look at the file, he noticed something. The cartoon was actually 9 minutes and 4 seconds long. This is what my source emailed to me, in full (he is a personal assistant of one of the higher executives at Disney, and acquaintance of Mr. Maltin himself).

"After it cut to black, it stayed like that until the 6th minute, before going back into Mickey walking. The sound was different this time. It was a murmur. It wasn't a language, but more like a gurgled cry. As the noise got more indistinguishable and loud over the next minute, the picture began to get weird. The sidewalk started to go in directions that seemed impossible based on the physics of Mickeys walking. And the dismal face of the mouse was slowly curling into a smirk. On the 7th minute, the murmur turned into a bloodcurdling scream (the kind of scream painful to hear) and the picture was getting more obscure. Colors were happening that shouldn't have been possible at the time. Mickey face began to fall apart. his eyes rolled on the bottom of his chin like two marbles in a fishbowl, and his curled smile was pointing upward on the left side of his face. The buildings became rubble floating in midair and the sidewalk was still impossibly navigating in warped directions, a few seeming inconcievable with what we, as humans, know about direction. Mr. Maltin got disturbed and left the room, sending an employee to finish the video and take notes of everything happening up until the last second, and afterward immediately store the disc of the cartoon into the vault. This distorted screaming lasted until 8 minutes and a few seconds in, and then it abruptly cuts to the mickey mouse face at the credits of the end of every video with what sounded like a broken music box playing in the backround. This happened for about 30 seconds, and whatever was in that remaining 30 seconds I heaven't been able to get a sliver of information.

From a security guard working under me who was making rounds outside of that room, I was told that after the last frame, the employee stumbled out of the room with pale skin saying "i can not see what has been unseen" 7 times before speedily taking the guards pistol and offing himself on the spot. The thing I could get out of Leonard Maltin was that the last frame was a piece of russian text that roughly said "the sights of hell bring its viewers back in". As far as I know, no one else has seen it, but there have been dozens of attempts at getting the file on rapidshare by employees inside the studios, all of whom have been promptly terminated of their jobs. Whether it got online or not is up for debate, but if rumors serve me right, it's online somewhere under "suicidemouse.avi". If you ever find a copy of the film, I want you to never view it, and to contact me by phone immediately, regardless of the time. When a Disney Death is covered up as well as this, it means this has to be something huge.

Get back at me,

TR"

This is believed to be a reconstruction of what was seen.

i've always found disney kinda weird and i always knew something was up with mickey...

EDIT: apparently it's a hoax, started on a forum. so, yeah...
but! there was a film like this. this is from snopes.com:
This is from Walt's surrealist period -- it's actually a sequence taken from Disney's Un Souris Andalou (1931). After prompting riots during its New York premiere, this Mickey Mouse cartoon was quickly withdrawn from distribution, and all extant prints and negatives were thought to have been destroyed by the mid-1940s.

So it's from some random person on the snopes forums, not snopes.com. Not exactly a reliable source.

According to this, it started on the X (conspiracy) boards at 4chan:

Like most things that are too "good" to be true, this looks like a hoax.

Or the intro for the upcoming game Epic Mickey.

Which reminds me. Are we sure this isn't the game's plot? You know, like a promotional stunt? This all seems too coincidental... and I'm not just saying that sarcastically.

EDIT: I thought Mickey Mouse was all just a victim of trolls here. But, now I know that Mickey's one big nutcase!

Seeing it today, I really can't believe they kept shooting while the boat's eye was falling out like that. And that poor girl is so distressed, she's shaking as she tries to keep the eye in the boat's dirty foam face. She's only reciting like, half her lines - I think she's consoling the boat, something about how Pirate Percy is in heaven now? God, I can't believe my parents let me watch this...

The first half of this clip is just static though. Did your upload screw up or something, Jacob?

Subject: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Does anyone remember this kid’s show? It was called Candle Cove and I must have been 6 or 7. I never found reference to it anywhere so I think it was on a local station around 1971 or 1972. I lived in Ironton at the time. I don’t remember which station, but I do remember it was on at a weird time, like 4:00 PM.

mike_painter65
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
it seems really familiar to me…..i grew up outside of ashland and was 9 yrs old in 72. candle cove…was it about pirates? i remember a pirate marionete at the mouth of a cave talking to a little girl

Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
YES! Okay I’m not crazy! I remember Pirate Percy. I was always kind of scared of him. He looked like he was built from parts of other dolls, real low-budget. His head was an old porcelain baby doll, looked like an antique that didn’t belong on the body. I don’t remember what station this was! I don’t think it was WTSF though.

Jaren_2005
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Sorry to ressurect this old thread but I know exactly what show you mean, Skyshale. I think Candle Cove ran for only a couple months in ‘71, not ‘72. I was 12 and I watched it a few times with my brother. It was channel 58, whatever station that was. My mom would let me switch to it after the news. Let me see what I remember.

It took place in Candle cove, and it was about a little girl who imagined herself to be friends with pirates. The pirate ship was called the Laughingstock, and Pirate Percy wasn’t a very good pirate because he got scared too easily. And there was calliope music constantly playing. Don’t remember the girl’s name. Janice or Jade or something. Think it was Janice.

Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Thank you Jaren!!! Memories flooded back when you mentioned the Laughingstock and channel 58. I remember the bow of the ship was a wooden smiling face, with the lower jaw submerged. It looked like it was swallowing the sea and it had that awful Ed Wynn voice and laugh. I especially remember how jarring it was when they switched from the wooden/plastic model, to the foam puppet version of the head that talked.

mike_painter65
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
ha ha i remember now too. do you remember this part skyshale: “you have…to go…INSIDE.”

Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Ugh mike, I got a chill reading that. Yes I remember. That’s what the ship always told Percy when there was a spooky place he had to go in, like a cave or a dark room where the treasure was. And the camera would push in on Laughingstock’s face with each pause. YOU HAVE… TO GO… INSIDE. With his two eyes askew and that flopping foam jaw and the fishing line that opened and closed it. Ugh. It just looked so cheap and awful.

You guys remember the villain? He had a face that was just a handlebar mustache above really tall, narrow teeth.

kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
i honestly, honestly thought the villain was pirate percy. i was about 5 when this show was on. nightmare fuel.

Jaren_2005
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
That wasn’t the villain, the puppet with the mustache. That was the villain’s sidekick, Horace Horrible. He had a monocle too, but it was on top of the mustache. I used to think that meant he had only one eye.

But yeah, the villain was another marionette. The Skin-Taker. I can’t believe what they let us watch back then.

kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
jesus h. christ, the skin taker. what kind of a kids show were we watching? i seriously could not look at the screen when the skin taker showed up. he just descended out of nowhere on his strings, just a dirty skeleton wearing that brown top hat and cape. and his glass eyes that were too big for his skull. christ almighty.

Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Wasn’t his top hat and cloak all sewn up crazily? Was that supposed to be children’s skin??

mike_painter65
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
yeah i think so. rememer his mouth didn’t open and close, his jaw just slid back and foth. i remember the little girl said “why does your mouth move like that” and the skin-taker didn’t look at the girl but at the camera and said “TO GRIND YOUR SKIN”

Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
I’m so relieved that other people remember this terrible show!

I used to have this awful memory, a bad dream I had where the opening jingle ended, the show faded in from black, and all the characters were there, but the camera was just cutting to each of their faces, and they were just screaming, and the puppets and marionettes were flailing spastically, and just all screaming, screaming. The girl was just moaning and crying like she had been through hours of this. I woke up many times from that nightmare. I used to wet the bed when I had it.

kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
i don’t think that was a dream. i remember that. i remember that was an episode.

Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
No no no, not possible. There was no plot or anything, I mean literally just standing in place crying and screaming for the whole show.

kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
maybe i’m manufacturing the memory because you said that, but i swear to god i remember seeing what you described. they just screamed.

Jaren_2005
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Oh God. Yes. The little girl, Janice, I remember seeing her shake. And the Skin-Taker screaming through his gnashing teeth, his jaw careening so wildly I thought it would come off its wire hinges. I turned it off and it was the last time I watched. I ran to tell my brother and we didn’t have the courage to turn it back on.

mike_painter65
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
i visited my mom today at the nursing home. i asked her about when i was littel in the early 70s, when i was 8 or 9 and if she remebered a kid’s show, candle cove. she said she was suprised i could remember that and i asked why, and she said “because i used to think it was so strange that you said ‘i’m gona go watch candle cove now mom’ and then you would tune the tv to static and juts watch dead air for 30 minutes. you had a big imagination with your little pirate show.”

still one of my favorite horror stories out there.

Ten year olds? Just because someone's scared doesn't mean their 10.

Was I scared? No. Was I disturbed at the inhumanity of these videos? YES!

Heres the story behind the candle cove video, and something written aboot it.

Subject: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Does anyone remember this kid’s show? It was called Candle Cove and I must have been 6 or 7. I never found reference to it anywhere so I think it was on a local station around 1971 or 1972. I lived in Ironton at the time. I don’t remember which station, but I do remember it was on at a weird time, like 4:00 PM.

it seems really familiar to me…..i grew up outside of ashland and was 9 yrs old in 72. candle cove…was it about pirates? i remember a pirate marionete at the mouth of a cave talking to a little girl

"While more unsettling than truly “scary” per se, this is definitely one of the most well-written and cleverly executed creepypastas out there. What makes it creepy isn’t some distinct monster - though the Skintaker counts as one - or even the paranormal aspect, but rather the fact that we ALL have vague recollections of creepy kids shows. So the idea that there might have been one before our time that was creepy INTENTIONALLY is actually fairly plausible to us.

It’s well-written because, even though it leaves out elements that perhaps could have enriched the fear-factor, the discussion evolves organically and in a way that keeps you off your guard. You’ve seen this forum discussion before - someone remembering something, another user saying “oh! I know what you’re talking about!”, and third popping in to add more information, etc. The sense of realism here is spot-on.

But what makes this truly brilliant, what puts it at a level above any other simple scary story, is that Candle Cove might very well have been a real show on some public access channel. Look at the posts. Pay attention to who says what. Only ONE of those users needs to be a troll. The one with the final post. Everyone else in that possibly-real thread could have honestly been struggling to remember a real kids show that never expanded past a collection of small towns within reach of some UHF station.

And that…that is a creepy thought."

yeh, i read the backstory, but the vid is just stupid. the first half is just static then theres some girl crying, talking like shes being forced to act(?)and really afraid, then theres that boat with the face and its really crap effects. the director probably just got drunk and went to the set with a lttle girl and made her say the lines for some reason, then screwed around with the puppets to scare her, and filmed it over the proper episode, or something.2010-04-17 06:13:00

yea, people play along to it sometimes by acting as if the first half was static and they only saw the second half, as if not everyone can see it. At the end of the story, it kind of explains why.

some call people who play along with it trolls, but actually they're just playing along, lol. heres a troll:

Think about it: Even if it wasn't meant to be creepy in the most obscure way, what's funny about it? Its an equivalent to laughing at paint drying. It's doesn't make any sense.

You should look into actual comedians, it'll be seventh heaven for you. And that goes to anyone else who posted here thinking this was funny, obviously to show people they don't understand why it's morbid and creepy.

i get why that's scary, i can see that it is quite disturbing, but i laughed at why people even bother doing that sort of thing. it's awful. the story on the other hand, now that was creepy and well written, i can appreciate that. but that video? i'm laughing at it because it's so bad.

However, Mickey Mouse is kinda creepy. His ears always face the front, even if he's looking sideways! What's with that?!?

Marble Hornets. (http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/)

This stuff's pretty fun! It's just an internet translation of the urban legend, the creepy tall tale. But once you get into the video production side of it with the stuff in these threads, this is where it flies deeply into hilarious territory for me personally. The stories are undoubtedly the real meat of these, but the videos are unbelievably funny to me. The fact that a Mickey Mouse cartoon similar to that would have existed is too funny to me. A nightmare Mickey Mouse cartoon, horrific to paranormal, extraordinary extent, full of artsy Lynch-like insanity? It's brilliant. Creepy to some, absolutely hilarious to others. I'm FIRMLY in hilarious territory.

It's fun stuff though. The movie Paranormal Activity was essentially a bigger scale feature film version of this new freaky trend. I've still never seen something that really did it for me, because they all have their give-aways. whether it's the acting, the filmmaking, the unrealistic motivations, or - and this is the big one - the "movie-like" drama and unfolding narrative - there's never been one that's been sufficiently realistic to creep me out. But there's room for that! Someone's got to do one eventually! This concept of the Slender Man is undoubtedly freakish. It reminds me very much of an urban legend ghost story I heard many times from many different sources, each indepedent of the other, dating back many years.

They're essentially ghost encounters, but all involved a short, squat figure, usually at a distance but inside the house at night. For example, you wake up to get a glass of water, you enter the hallway - and there, you see it - all the way down the hallway, a short figure, too short and too squat to be natural - perhaps it has no neck or no face - some other skin-crawlingly eerie detail. but it seems to be staring directly at you. and then it turns and walks into the bathroom.

What do you do? In every version of the story I ever heard, the person telling the story flew down the stairs and into their room and turned the lights on and stayed up all **** night.

Anyway, it's very similar to the "Slender Man" of the Marble Hornets story, and the fact that you can hear this story from so many sources really testifies to its staying power as a modern ghost legend. This "too tall and slender" or "too short and squat" thing, just enough to be unnatural.

With the Slender Man, the really scary concept is that you usually don't notice he's there. But he shows up in videos and photos. So people who think they're haunted by him begin to videotape or photograph themselves and their surroundings OBSESSIVELY, in order to catch glimpses of him and prove he's there.

And you get terrifying images like this one. Keep looking. You'll know you've seen him when the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

http://imgur.com/zrOZZ.jpg

This, to me, is terribly fun stuff. But I'm STILL waiting for the "ultimate" urban legend faux-real creep-fest. Blair Witch really opened the floodgates, and now it's in internet territory, but still has yet to be really cracked as far as I'm concerned.

Lol, I've never heard about this before. The website has an interesting gimmick, but I think the way they pulled it off leaves a lot to be desired. The way whathisface presents this all is a bit ridiculous. The introduction, for example. "Oh, these tapes seem creepy, but I haven't looked at them. I'll just make this website about them and tell anyone if I find anything interesting".

The creepiest stories I've heard are about the Grinning Man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Grinning_Man When they get into the whole "telepathy" thing it gets a little too ridiculous for me, but I think that the first story is especially creepy.

Also, on Marble Hornets, entry 7 made me lol.

I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but...

Since the end of the school year has been drawing nearer, I was flipping through all my old papers, seeing if I needed to keep any. I came across an old math test from close to the beginning of the year. (I always doodle on my tests after I'm done with them). It was covered with the ordinary doodles. But, after closer invesigation, I saw a drawing of a sad-looking Mickey Mouse walking down a road. As it moved across the paper, it became distorted, and then eventually evaporated into a sketch of a pencil.

I swallowed hard when I saw this. I'll try to post a scan.

I'm not kidding you. I swear I'm not trolling or anything.

In the mean time;

I found this on some really weird red disk in the woods near some strange alter I found with red crosses nailed to the trees all around the area. At first it didn't work on my computer but I put disk fixer on it and it worked. It was in mp3 format, and it was really really strange and creepy.

The pictures are unrelated and there for no reason, I put them there for the video. Though near the end, I added pictures were there was some noise between the tone and static, so you could see were they were. Something sounds really demonic about this, and its really creepy how I found it near that altar. I have a feeling its cursed, I mean listen to it.

I saw that on the youtube link but in this thread it says what I put. I thought it was more likely for pepole to have seen the stuff in the thread than the video.

Has anyone else researched the slenderman to the same extent as me? I've been spending hours on end trawling through the Something Awful thread on it... To start with, you think there's no way it could be true, but then you see something like this (http://www.pararesearchers.org/Ghosts/Article_Five/article_five.html), and it just makes you think. :/ Guess who won't be sleeping tonight?2010-06-04 22:14:00

It isn't even something scary. Just a stupid story, and a waste of my time, tbh.

I'll watch all those "scary videos" tomorrow because it's like 0:50 AM.
But I saw that people said that it was boring and others said that it was freaking creepy and I know some of my friends are easily scared >:-D
I think I will have fun at showing them

That is really freaky, I read this thread on tuesday and I couldn't go to sleep, I couldn't walk around the house by myself. That slenderman just made me not want to look around or leave the company of my brother, who was sleeping in a different room from mine. I already recovered from that though, so no worries.

Anyone who dared to click the link about slenderman in resistance1's post, could you please describe to your fellow LBP central members what is in that link? (Or you could give us a description if you want, resistance1)

(If you're talking about when the thread was made)
Yes, I know it's an old thread, I almost posted here, some couple days ago. First thing I did was ask Voodeedoo if it was alright with him to revive this thread, he said yes. So I did.

(Not that I have a thing for reviving old threads!)

And at the last moment, Mickey turned to the screen and said "You have one week to pass this one, or you die"...

Goes to show you how weak the human psyche is. Nice story, but it was most likely created by someone who's parents didn't take them to Disney world when they were a child. Kinda like myself......2010-12-24 15:14:00

Just saying about an experiment where some people made up a ghost, and it eventually came to life. Probably untrue.

Alright, thanks resistance1! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some sort of popping-up picture of slenderman at the end of the hallway or something.

Don't go to 4Chan. That's my advice. Especially with parents nearby; this is all a made up story.2010-12-25 07:22:00

* insert relief emoticon here* ok, that makes me fell better, even though i was pretty sure when you said something about 4chan i was 90% certain that that meant it was made up. but, the story itself, CREEPS ME OUT. so, i REALLY wish i hadn't read that. oh well.2010-12-25 07:32:00

Hey flamester, you aren't alone on that. I read this and about slenderman, it really freaked me out too. I knew it was fake but the thought of it still gave me the chills. I unfortunately read it before I went to sleep. I could not sleep at all! I had get out of my room and quickly go to the room where my brother was, I could never leave his company. My brother is a tough guy to crack, he read about this too, but it didn't affect him in any noticable way. I stayed awake all night til' I finally fell asleep in the afternoon, my flow of sleeping is screwed up and I have to fix it once more, and I just fixed it a few days before I read this thread!
Luckily, I have recovered from it's effects and can now walk in the house by myself.

I cant help but remember thinking about that CartoonNetwork show: "THe misadventures of flapjack" when I heard about this! Actually, the main point of that show was to get to "CANDY Cove! 0.0 Im scared now! :S2010-12-26 20:39:00

I heard if you play "StairWay to Heaven" backwards it will summon Satan.
Who will then give you a slap and tell you to listen to Zep properly

Actually, Grayspence. It's Candied Island that the characters in The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack are seeking, not Candy Cove. Candied Island has everything made of candy, The sea around it is also lemonade!

Pretty disturbing story. Freaky.

It was believable up until the guy shooting himself in the head bit. No one would kill themselves over a film.........unless it's a Justin Bieber video or something.

I have a feeling the producers died a little inside during filming.

Avalon, I'm not sure if you know this but, the video and the story is fake, it's not real. Look around the other pages in this topic, you'll see that it's just a hoax.
It is still really creepy, it creeped me out even more than Dead Space ever did. And I had the unfortune experience of reading the story before it was time for me to go to sleep, I read all the pages of course, but the thought of the story just scared the ability to sleep out of me! I feel better now though, but it's still a little creepy.

Seriously, The only disturbing thing about this story is how many people actually believe it.
However, scary things such as this are kind of entertaining.

If the last 30 seconds of an animated film caused suicide... how many animators did they go through making the frames?

...

(Curls up into the corner and cries)

This video is a hoax, but there's something about it that is just...

WRONG

There's plenty more where that came from.

Let me explain:

This story is part of a categorey called "Creepypasta". The story came first, but then someone made a video that goes with it.

I wouldn't look it up if I were you.
