Groups and search bar.

Archive: 4 posts

Firstly, I noticed the groups at MNRC have a few more features than the groups here, I don't see why though. If anything, the groups here should get the extra features, since it's a lot more active...

When making the group, it has category, here there's only uncategorised. But MNRC has all kinds of category's...

Also, MNRC has the ability to make the group creator the only one who can make new discussions.

I'm sure this is all an accident but I would really like to be able to do those things over here...

Secondly, would it be possible to get rid of the minimum of 4 letters on the search bar? I find it really annoying when you try to search for something but can't because of the 4 letters minimum. Like when searching for LBP, which I expect is a common thing people would want to search for here...

Oh, another thing I noticed, at the bottom of the page it says all times are GMT+1, it obviously isn't GMT+1 because it says The time now is (insert time here). Which is the same time as where I am, and my time is GMT.

This might be possible, although the increased number of indexed search tokens will put extra load on the server. We might also have to re-examine the list of "stop words" which are those words which will not be indexed (used for very common words like "the", "and", etc.), and "LBP" may end up having to be one of them, as it's probably used in the majority of posts here.

I'm not quite sure what kind of useful results you expect to get when searching for something as commonly used as "LBP", but bear in mind that this site is regularly indexed by google, so as a workaround, you can just google for site:www.lbpcentral.com <search terms here>, and you can quite easily search this site for "LBP" (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Awww.lbpcentral.com+lbp) that way.

FWIW, there are about 26,000 results, so, enjoy.

Your timezone is actually BST currently, which is GMT+1.

CC addressed this recently, and it was a conscious decision to exclude them. Including all three letter words would vastly expand the search index, and the extra load is something we'd prefer to avoid. If Aya really wants to go through the process of setting up stop-words and setting everything up, weeeell....

Not really.

But if Doopz is happy just to use google to work around this limitation, then there's not much point in discussing this any further.

Besides, google will give you far more search flexibility than vBulletin is capable of anyway.
