Why won't this brain die?

Archive: 6 posts

Hi, I'm a bit stuck with this level I'm working on. At this point in the level, I have a balloon story object set on fire. The player needs to grab the balloon (it can still be grabbed when on fire) and placed in an area. this area has a brain on it, and a rod attached to what I want it to destroy. I set the brain to vunerable, and the fire balloon doesn't do anything. I could use mag keys to kill the brain, but then it doesn't go up in flames like I want it to.

I made a quick digram on MS Paint to show what it is I'm on about.

Can anyone help? or will I have to just let it be destroyed without the fire?

I'm taking a wild guess here but...
If I understood you correctly sackboy/girl can touch the balloon without dying even though it's on fire. If so, maybe the creature doesn't get affected by the fire either. Try changing the balloon to a piece of orange floaty set on fire with a little piece of material that sackboy/girl can grab onto, if that works then you know the balloon is the cause.

When a creature has been made hazardous but vulnerable, it becomes immune to the particular hazard. Stephen Fry explains it pretty nicely in the ingame create tutorials.2010-04-11 11:58:00

Wait, is the creature already on fire? I missed that part of his post.

Anyway, the problem is that when you set a creature to vulnerable, it's only vulnerable where it's creature legs/wheels are. If you're not using those (they're ugly, so I'd understand) then vulnerable doesn't mean anything. What you want to do is just shrink down a couple legs as small as you can and stick 'em in the spot where the balloon will hit.

That is, of course, assuming the balloon is still harmful. I imagine that when you said it was grabbable, you meant that the bottom section was grabbable (it's the only part that ever is) and the rest was still lethal. I had never thought to try that with a balloon, but it sorta makes sense: the grabbable part is a separate little chunk on the bottom (you can see its outline when you select the balloon). I'll have to see if it's possible to separate it from the balloon. Why? Um.... 'cuz. I dunno' but I'm always trying to break things into their separate parts (gotta' love invisible spikes (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25258-Sourceless-lights-invisible-spikes-and-a-couple-other-tricks)).

Yep that's why it can be grabbed.
You can do the same with 2 and 3 way switches, lethalize them and the lever can still be grabbed, but watch out for the base! (Try glueing them upside down to dark matter for best effect!).

Thanks for that guys, I see what you mean about the legs. I'm actually covering the brain with a thin layer, so I'll hide some in there. And I knew about only the bottom being the only bit you can grab though. Thanks guys!2010-04-12 17:03:00
