Kids are stupid.

Archive: 19 posts

Occasionally when I am playing my levels online, players join me (from the quickplay function no doubt), and most of the time they are kids. I just hang back and see if they can figure out my level for themselves. They can't.
(I would rate my level medium-hard)

All they do is run as fast as possible, never read anything (even if it has a cutscene camera) and blindly shoot everything in sight if they get their hands on a paintinator.
They are never patient nor think of any consequences from their actions.

I doubt any of them has finished the story mode. Bunker was hard, even for me.

The cool pages are run by these kids. Can we do anything about it?
Not really, because there is always some jerk exploiting these kids for plays/hearts with bomb survival/never ending level key chains/etc.

Has anyone observed kids playing this game? I read a post on LBPC one time that said that their kids got stuck in a level key chain and an adult had to exit out for them. (or something to that effect)

Opinions? Do your kids play LBP? What have you noticed?

Me, being a "kid", find that not all kids are impatient or feisty and don't really know what they are doing, or have a clue what they're doing. Although I do agree the Cool Pages are overrun by poorly made levels, bomb survivals, ect. Every time I decide to go on the "Quickplay" feature every once in a while, I'm stuck in a bomb survival or a level that has no exit and is poorly made. For the most of your post, I agree with it.2010-04-10 14:49:00

Ha I know just what you mean. I played with people like this. Jumping of ledges without even looking to see if its even safe to do so etc. They make the easiest of levels look impossible llol.2010-04-10 14:51:00

Wanna have an interesting look into the majority of the minds that play lbp? (lbp central is a small chunk o the iceberg, you know.....quality over quantity or summat.....) Go quick play diving. It is as much fun as it is frightening. I do wonder why most of them took the time to grow opposable thumbs.

That said, this is a game and i suppose as long as everyone is entertained its all good.

I recomend to play your own levels online with random people. It's desperating, but it will make you realise how "difficult" your levels are 2010-04-10 14:57:00

If you ever look at how many people finish a level, it's amazing the % of people who haven't finished.2010-04-10 16:21:00

Side note, republishing trick only really works if these kids can complete it. I don't think it really works with difficult levels. Anyone browse newest levels? Because I only touch the "highest rated" section 99% of the time.
In my new level, most kids cant even make the first jump! haha. I doubt I will dumb any of my current levels down further for them. But if I don't, it's harder to have a popular level, hmm. Tricky problem.

Well, they ARE little kids, you can't them to know advanced things, they haven't the same logic that older people do, so give them a break, jeez!
And like its been mentioned before, not ALL kids are like that, i've seen some pretty good ones that manage to solve most pussles and are difficulty plataformers.
I even saw a cououple of levels from a 13-year old that was superb, and could easly beat in both, graphics and puzzles a lot of the levels of most people here.

Don't go hasty and making quick judgement on an entire group just because a couple are bad, or aren't as good as the rest, that's basically racism you got there m8!
(Not calling you a racist, its just a joke. >_>)

So yeah, don't get mad at all kids just because some couldn't figure out a puzzle, you were a kid once and i'm pretty sure you weren't as smart as you are now, now were you m8?

And remember, LBP IS a family game, for EVERYONE to enjoy as they have the most fun, that includes little kids!

An interesting note - MY little boy is 8, and is a pretty decent creator - even does OK with logic. When we're playing LBP together many times he figures out puzzles before me.2010-04-10 16:43:00

I'm surpised so many kids actually ARE like this. I don't know about anyone else but I'm pretty confident that even when I was about 6 I knew that there was more to games than just running and jumping blindly all over the place. 2010-04-10 16:49:00

I agree with nuclearfish. I'd at least attempt to see what I need to do always, rather than just legging in all over the place. I only started legging it on Mario when I was &, that was when I started trying to do levels in under a minute. >8D2010-04-10 16:59:00

Ya. Maybe these guys are really pathetic players who haven't a clue what the game LittleBigPlanet is about.2010-04-10 18:48:00

It's probably because most of these "little kids" now a days missed out on some real platformers like Mario, the Donkey Kong Country series, the Mega Man series, etc and LBP may be the first real platformer that they have played, so they aren't used to difficult platformers, while we, on the other hand, are.2010-04-10 18:49:00

This thread doesn't do much to promote a friendly atmosphere. I think, then that I will close it down.
