Internet Connection

Archive: 7 posts

Well I wasn't sure if this should go in the help section so I put it here.

So I got a new wireless router cause my old one broke...I cant connect the ps3 to the internet now I think its because of the smaller range that it has my house has double brick walls cause its old so yeah. Do you think the range is effecting it or is it something completely different?

If you think the range is whats effecting it do you know anyways I can increase it?

Thanks a lot guys

Nah, most routers have ranges that are about 2 - 4 houses long, so i doubt that's it.

Maybe you input your password wrong?
Remember you also have to configurate everything in the computer and pass the info to the PS3.

And brick walls shouldn't affect its transmission range as far as i know, i'm at the other side of the house from my router with solid walls, and still recieve 100% signal, so i doubt it has a (significant) effect.
Ad as far as i'm aware of, there's no way to increase its "normal" range wothout hacking it.

Do you have this problem with other connections in your house, like a laptop that is connected wirelessly? I live in a small brick/concrete house and my laptop's wireless signal is pretty weak in my bedroom. If you are having trouble with laptops and what not, it might be the router. If possible, try moving it to a centralized location in your home. You could also purchase a wireless repeater to extend the signal.

It's also possible that it's you need to change some of your settings with your new router since your old one worked just fine. Maybe you could try switching channels and see if that helps.

Who's your internet server, rseah? We're with Optus and I find sometimes their server is quite weak - particularly on occasions when you know it's peak usage time (i.e. evenings). We always had psn connection issues until we recently upgraded to the sexy new optus modem/router all in one. We had a modem connected to a router and wireless connection before that was a piece of rubbish. Our connection is heaps better now, all round. How old is the modem and router you're using now? It might need a firmware update?2010-04-18 04:55:00
