Major Problem!! Internet Issue

Archive: 6 posts

Ok, I am in desperate need of help.

In the past few days my internet has been acting weird. Suddenly pages load very slowly, videos often refuse to play like on YouTube it'll say 'an error occured please try again later', images often refuse to show and instead have a red X through them or a blank spot where image should be, and after a page loads I get 1 of 3 things, 1. Internet explorer cannot display the web page, 2. the page loads and says done at bottom yet the page where text and images go is blank with only the heading of the site showing, or 3. the page loads fine but slowly as it did for result 1. or 2.

This is bad. I cannot even hardly sign in to the PSN network either. I turn PS3 on and it says signing in only to say either
A. An error occured, you have been signed out of the PSN network, or B. The connection with Playstation Network has timed out

Even when it actually signs in, i'll get one of those messages like a minute or 2 later after it goes offline again.

But the PSN is only doing that because of the issue with the internet acting weird. I tried deleting history and temporary files. I tried the unplug modem and restart comp method. None of that worked. And my virus scan only picked up the usual adware tracking things and deleted them, but I always get those and delete them. All I know is that when a page does load it'll say at bottom done, but with errors on page, or something about javascript.

Has anyone experienced this? And know what the issue may be?

EDIT: Oh, and also even when a page does load, ads and things on the page will show part of the 'internet explorer cannot display web page' page.

1) What kind of internet connection do you have? (Broadband, DSL, etc.)
2) What kind of router do you have? (Wired or wireless)
3) Have you contacted your ISP?

internet explorer

Well, there's one problem. It's my best advice to use a different browser, whether it be Chrome or Firefox.

If you're having slow connections even with PSN, contact your ISP.

When you unplugged your modem, did you keep it unplugged for a good few minutes? It won't work to just unplug and then immediately boot it up again. and if you have a router, unplug that too. Give it a good five minutes, and then restart it that way. And then it's ISP contact time. Which sucks to be sure, but there you have it.2010-04-09 21:30:00

Darn, I guess I'll have to contact the ISP even though I never get help when I call for it without them saying they cant do so over the phone and have to send someone for about $100.

One time this started to happen, though not as bad, and I did the unplug modem thing and it worked. But not this time.

@schm0:

1) I have DSL. ISP is AT&T and I have the fastest internet they provide. It's always had problems though minor and occasional, but then this started and it's bad.
2) I have a wireless router.
3) No, for reason listed above. All places seem to do when you call is tell you things you already know like unplug modem, restart comp, and various basic thngs, then if it doesn't work they say they have to send someone out and you get charged because they can't tell you more advanced instructions over the phone.

@compher:

Darn, I hope I don't have to do that, but anything that might work is worth a try.

@Teebonesy:

Yes, I unplugged both and did so for at least 5 minutes. Went and fixed something to eat before plugging them in again, lol.

At first this reminded me this nasty virus I got before that restricted internet access. It systematically started shutting access to stuff on the web down starting with pages that might lead to a way of getting rid of the virus like Norton, avg etc basically as much anti virus stuff as it could then it moved onto normal web stuff. Luckily I killed it then and all was restored to normality. This does just sound like crappy ISP issues. I hate those probably even more than viruses! Hopefully it's just a fault on their part with technical issues or something and the issues will clear up soon. Losing internet or reverting back to dial up standards is like loosing a limb these days lol2010-04-09 23:38:00
