Does the 'layer glitch' work on water?
Archive: 10 posts
I have an awesome level idea that requires the 3D layer glitch and water, but I don't have water and I'm wonderin' if it will conflict with the layer glitch? I'm kinda sketpical on wether I should buy the Water kit or not D: | 2010-04-09 02:21:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
I think it will crash your PS3 | 2010-04-09 02:23:00 Author: cheesemuffins99 Posts: 102 |
all of the 3d effects that are not glued down will crash it. I have however tested it on glued 3d effects, and it works fine | 2010-04-09 02:34:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
No as far as i know. I've seen RoseScythe & Morganna 25 build underwater areas with 3d glitch, so as far as i know, it shouldn't be a problem. | 2010-04-09 02:34:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |

I didn't even know water + 3D glitch was supposed to be dodgey. I made an underwater 3d area very early on and I'm not even convinced everything is glued down. I had no idea how to emit stuff back there or the uses of dark matter at that time so I don't know. I've also dropped plenty of 3d glitched things into water by accident with no problems, they just float like anything in the normal layers. So I don't know, personally I haven't experienced any glitches or crashes combining water + 3D glitch. | 2010-04-09 03:10:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |

You can staple objects with DM and have them float (yes they are glued to DM, but they aren't "glued down" unless that is what you meant.) I have also created floating bouys in the background layers (7 and 10 back) in a water level that has a pretty substantial wave setting. They move up and down with the water and don't crash the PS3. | 2010-04-09 03:39:00 Author: RoharDragontamer Posts: 397 |
I think whats crashing the PS3 is when a layer glitch object that stretches all the way back hits the water, when this happens, the game is probably trying to create all those splash effects for all those layers at once. | 2010-04-09 04:24:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
I have also created floating bouys in the background layers (7 and 10 back) in a water level that has a pretty substantial wave setting. They move up and down with the water and don't crash the PS3. I think the source of "3D + water crashes PS3" was my How To Recreate The 3D Layer Glitch (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23874-How-To-Recreate-The-3D-Layer-Glitch#post414086) thread... Dynamic objects in the glitch layers also have a tendency to completely crash the PS3 when they come into contact with water, so make sure they're held down with dark matter if you intend to use them underwater. I've just successfully reproduced this crash again, although both times it only happened when placing a piece of material which extends into the foreground and background at the same time. However, it doesn't always happen, and it's difficult to precisely pin down the exact circumstances which cause it to happen. The first time (when I was in OC) it occurred when just placing a block. This time it occurred when smearing a glitch block so it intersected another glitch block. I haven't managed to reproduce it without the presence of water, nor does it seem to occur with dark matter. I think whats crashing the PS3 is when a layer glitch object that stretches all the way back hits the water, when this happens, the game is probably trying to create all those splash effects for all those layers at once. Certainly a plausible suggestion, but difficult to be certain. | 2010-04-09 04:51:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
Most of my level "Knights of the Azure Palace Part 1" is consists of the 3D glitch underwater... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDukGGNirh0 During creation, I only got the crashes when I was pushing 95% thermo. Of course YMMV. This is also both front and back glitch layers. | 2010-04-09 05:20:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
