Create Mode aids, Water view, & Sticker tool

My wish-list for LBP so far is looking like this:

Create Mode aids

(1) Foreground / Background creation view mode

This option would let you view your level creation from the background looking forward (towards the player), in addition to the default view of looking at your creation from the foreground looking back (the player's point-of-view). This view-mode option would aid greatly in the development and later tweaking of complex areas / contraptions / creations, letting you edit and work with the 'back-side' of something in addition to its 'front-side' --> where now it is all too common to have to break things down and / or move things out of the way in order to adjust something originally placed in the back.

(2) Selective UN-gluing, or Selective Detaching

Gluing objects within Create Mode is currently so uncontrollable and full of unintended consequences that most creators avoid it as much as possible. Selective Gluing helps toward addressing this problem, but the Detach feature lacks the same selectability. The ability to Selectively Detach (by using the left analogue stick for up-down-right-left and the L1/L2 buttons for forward-back) would be a great aid in separating exactly what you *want* to separate, rather than having to un-glue an entire object when all you wanted was just the selected piece.

(3) Hide Wires or Show Wires check box (while in Create Mode) on all Switches

Any creator who has constructed complex logic networks, contraptions, or creatures can report that the current mode of showing all wires, all the time while in Create Mode causes creator headaches / angst when the wire / wire 'tab' density gets high. You can't move things out of the way to see or click on what you want to click on -- you have to stab and stab until you find just the right sweet spot to 'catch' the wire 'tab' you were after, or worse, you have to detach and move around (often carefully placed) components just to get at what you want. It would be most helpful if all Switches (those Tool Bag items with wire 'tabs' and currently-connected wires running away from them) had a "Hide Wires" or "Show Wires" check-box which will let you hide the wires from view, even while in Create Mode.

Water view option

While I love the POTC water addition to LBP, I would greatly appreciate the ability to choose whether (or not) it can be seen (that is, overflow into) the foreground or background areas. It would be great if Global Water Objects and the Tool Bag water menu had check boxes for "Show in Foreground" and "Show in Background." This feature would give creators *much* greater flexibility in the use of this great new water feature. Given a choice, the ability to hide water in the foreground would be incredibly helpful: water in the background can be hidden by terrain, but water in the foreground cannot, except via camera angle trickery.

Sticker Maker tool

It is actually rather surprising to me that the game doesn't have a mini-Paint/Photoshop tool that would allow you to make your own custom text signs ("Beware of the Leopard" for you Douglas Adams fans) and / or other custom stickers for each level and your sack-person decorating pleasure. This would be a **most** popular feature to add to the game. While some artistic folks are very good at creating their own stickers via the standard creation tools and then capturing them as in-game photos, this is awfully clunky and limiting, and makes for a lot of work, drawing each letter free-hand and corner edit style and then capturing your own "font set." It would be much easier to simply *type* what you want and then select its formatting. Not to mention the improvements to in-game artwork possible with such a tool.

i dont think so, alot of really good levels get ruined because the water is there in the foreground

I assume that it would look like a fish-tank, with the water between the forward-most and back-most thin layers. It would be up to you, the creator, to utilize those layers in some manner to give you the effect that you are after: glass for a "tank" look, or something solid for a "small pool of liquid" look. If you want the full effect in either the background or foreground, then turn it on.

I like most of the ideas and the water thing could be acieved by like a mechanism that lets you streach a box just like your selecting a object and then select a section of water and choose th hide that water.2010-04-09 00:19:00

The water view thing would be useful, and could provide better ways to create a level that has 'only water in some places', via hiding it under objects.2010-04-09 20:30:00

To my list of Create Mode aids, add:

(4) A full set of Stickers which *match* the building materials in your Goodies Bag

This would permit you to build objects out of variety of materials, based upon what you needed with regard to density, crushability, grabability, dissolvability, etc., and then cover it over with the sticker of your choice to give the object the consistent appearance of your choice. This would be especially useful for disguising dissolve material embedded within something larger (and slated for future dissolution). In the current setup, you have to cover over the dissolve *and* everything else around it, even if you liked the "look" of the non-dissolve material.
