Farmville. Yes, I know.....its barely a game........

Archive: 11 posts

As the title says, I do know that its barely a game, but whatever. all condescension aside its simplicity does have a draw to it....at any rate....

So how do the ones of you that play (don't lie. I know that at least a few of you do....) like the co-op farming feature?

I have to say it needs some polish, but otherwise its pretty cool. (MVP 2 jobs in a row and all i did was plant something!)

My big concern. (big as in 'hey, wonder if they thought of that. not like i care, but whatever&apos is that there is a....lack of communication on that game (yea. i know, right? a game on a social networking site lacking communication....) is not what it needs to be for there to be a good effort on some of the jobs.

for instance, there is one of the newest that requires......hmm. lets just use algebra terms.... X amount of 3 different crops. 2 of em take 1 day and one takes 12 hours. to get the gold, you have..............A day and a half(?).........to get the job done. so....if your friends jump in a grow one or the other and you jump in and don't grow what they were not growing.....yer all screwed. Perhaps i'm just not looking at something simple, but yea.

I used to play this religiously, but now I don't! Thank God it is one of the most pointless time eater games I have ever seen. It doesn't just eat time it eats your life as you have crops on your mind and such. Nothing good comes out of it honestly. I studied game development in college so I just couldn't stand playing it anymore as it has so many flaws. Plus it is basically a money making device, I know you can play for free but believe me people buy stuff, like it's an image they are paying for. I gave up a few months ago so I don't know where it's at now. But the stuff you paid for was shoddy graphics, no animation, basically a drawing(not very good) with zero interaction, pointless! It's psychological, money grabbing mind meddling drivel! I swear I had like 3 accounts for it and also played mafia wars with multiple accounts. That was the most boring period of gaming in my life! Thankfully LBP and other games whisked me away and this game is a whole lot more productive. I never paid for anything with money but it wasted a lot of time which converts to money so yeah, it robbed me! Zynga = sell outs! My opinion, I really dislike them that's all I know. Rant over!2010-04-11 05:40:00

Eh, actually, it's no more pointless than my former wow addiction, or my current Fallen Earth addiction. the only difference is that you don't have to pay for it. All games are wastes of time regardless of graphics. but as long as you enjoy them then its all good. i can't say i spend more than a few minutes a day playing it anymore.

and calling zynga sellouts really makes no sense. they are the popcap games of the ....facebook market...i guess you'd call it. They make simple games that people who aren't hardcore can get addicted to, and make a profit. people are entertained and the company gets paid. win win.

tangent

Now if they wanted me to get addicted to something, they'd team up with Natsume (dunno if thats how its spelled) and make a full on Harvest Moon online game. that, I'd be all over that. the PS1 version of harvest moon was sooo much better than the subsequent 3d ones. Ah, good times......

The reason I say sell outs is the fact they don't just have farmville, it's mafia wars, yoville, fishville, vampireville(? oh wait seen morganas post, wars it is), petville and many many more. All of which are variants of each other with something tweaked be it visuals or some gamplay, fundamentally all the same. In my opinion no heart went into any of these games, just the thought of money. Popcap can't help being brilliant at what they do, they make addictive games that are highly professional and top quality. Time goes into them and one can't help but feel they have a passion for those type of games, zynga does not give me this vibe or anything like it! If facebook didn't exist, zynga wouldn't, it's a strange phenomenon. I played for months and I didn't feel "entertained". I don't know what I felt but it went beyond fun and games, it was more like chore work but I kept going back! Some sort of mind game is all I can put it down to.2010-04-12 00:50:00

Eh, I never got that feeling from em. then again i only play one of their games. To each thier own i suppose.

Hmm. on a somewhat related note, if you want a browser game that obviously had some effort (in their own way, these people were nuts to begin with) I would suggest Kingdom of Loathing (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/) Its nothing but stick figures visually but its got a lot of heart to it, or rather, smarm. its also completely free, including not having adds. completely donation driven, and has an extremely loyal fan base.

its got 6 character classes, which should by name only pique your interest:

sauceror
pastamancer
accordion thief
disco bandit
seal clubber
turtle tamer (that's the one i rolled when i played)
