Elemental Box

Archive: 3 posts

Alright so this is a project I started working on about a week ago. It's concept came from a game called Grow I found on the interwebs. The concept for my version is when you come into the level there is this box, and there will be 8 tokens. Each token will have a different element associated with it and you put these tokens into a machine. The machine will then process what token it was and evolve a part of the box. Parts of the box will also evolve based on longevity. Some parts require other parts of the box to be evolved to a certain point before they can be evolved. Once the box is fully evolved though, an elevator will take you to the top of your box(the top changes depending on how well you evolved it) and then once inside it will begin to move. Along its path will be obstacles either giant bosses or natural obstacles that if your box is evolved enough shall be able to overcome. The difficulty of this shouldn't be to ridiculously hard for somewhat logical people.

So far I have completed the first stage of this project, which is creating the evolving box.

Edit: I didn't realize you could export to your PS3 HDD and then transfer via Flash Drive so the pictures are better than before.

As you can see from the quality of the pictures I don't have very high tech gear, and yes I still have a Cancer Ray Tube TV. I already have a plan set out for the rest of this, but I was wondering what I could do to improve it for it to become really popular. What I was mainly wondering is if you guys think I should improve the visual element of the box? I can't really change the material or cut parts off but I could add stickers. I'd like to hear what y'all think while I'm finishing up steps 2 and 3 of creation.

Well I have to say, I LOVE the grow games, they're a lot of fun, mainly due to the cool animations and such. However I do remember it took a bit of trial and error before I got the final solution This might turn off players, or it might make them rush back for a replay.

As to your question, I think the visual element is going to be very important in this project. As i said, the animations and the way your box changed was what made the game fun to me. Make the player want to see the final solution, by giving them memorable transformations and designs

The transformations are all finished so I guess I will redo the visual element with stickers. I hope you will play this after I finish to let me know what you think. I will probably put in in the level showcase for F4F.2010-04-07 19:18:00
