Archive: 13 posts

im getting the ps3 version of littlebigplanet and I'm used to the psp version. What are the differences? also, what comes with the game of the year edition and what DLC should I buy? I'm the kind of person that likes to have all the trinkets and stuff available to use excluding stickers.2010-04-07 14:23:00

I play both, so here's my feedback:

The PSP version is very similar to the original first release of the PS3 version. The biggest difference in creating is that you can "draw" your material just like painting a picture.

Also, the upgrades that have been released over the last year have made the PS3 version far more powerful. For instance, the paintinator (from the MGS pack), the ability to adjust the angles on switches (instead of just having a circle), water (the Pirates of the carribean pack).

I'm still highly impressed with the PSP version for portability, but definately the PS3 version is far superior, and the create experience is much more intuitive, powerful, and fun.

Many of the best downloads are already in the GOTY edition, but I would definately suggest the "Pirates of the Carribean " pack.

I don't have the PSP version although I've played a friends PSP a few times...

PS3 has 3 layers (Without using glitches)
PS3 has infinite layers (with using glitches, although you can still only walk on the 3 main ones)
PS3 has better graphics.
PS3 has more people, and over 2 million community levels!
PS3 has more good glitches, instead of bad annoying ones.

What are the differences?

I wrote a pretty comprehensive list (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/PSP-Workshop/A-Guide-to-PSP-Create-Mode/m-p/200742) of these on LBW, although it's written more from the POV of explaining the PSP version to those accustomed to the PS3 version.

...what comes with the game of the year edition...

Read this (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/08/17/announcing-littlebigplanet-%E2%80%93-game-of-the-year-edition/).

If you just want stuff which is useful in create mode, then check out this thread (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/PS3-Workshop/What-DLC-should-I-purchase-for-ultimate-creation-tools/td-p/233628) on LBW.

PS3: along with the stated above, 25 story levels (does NOT count minigames, but has minigames), easier create, different fire look, realistic unmakable objects, hearting levels, explosives destroy cardboard both floaties dissolve and poly... something, forgot it's name, different grid sizes, ability to "draw" shapes with NO grid, picture tool, decorations (like stickers, but more realistic and look like solid objects but aren't, the ability to take pictures of in-gameplay, instead of making something static in PSP, Dark Matter (floats where placed and can only be moved by popit tool), the ability of putting stickers and decorations on your sackboy and other sackpeople, third level of happy emotion sticks sackboy's tounge out ( like this ), Yellowhead, and, last but definetely NOT least, the ability to move your sackboy's body joints, which also allows you to slap other sackpeople!2010-04-07 17:01:00

and how do things stay still without the static/dynamic option?2010-04-07 17:05:00

I said it once and I'll say it again: dark matter, the only material that does what you stated. just shrink it (DM has the ability of being invisible by shrinking it to the minimum) and embed it into the material you want to float or glue it to an object, or even attach it with a connector. However, there are suberb "secret" materials used by MM (who you should know as the creators of LBP PS3, not Cambridge, just saying) that look like other materials but act like dark matter.
Also, due to DM's inability to move, you can emit one peice of dark matter over another peice of DM.
All other materials, if not attached someway to DM, are considered dynamic.
As a side note, the PS3 sponge material is more realistic.

It's actually the one thing I like more about the PSP version - being able to set any material static/dynamic..... but, as mentioned - gluing a tiny piece of dark matter to another piece of material does the same thing.2010-04-07 18:09:00

Or you can use DM which has been 'cow-glitched' to look like another material, or it can be based on the unique cactus sponge from the canyons template which is both static and grabbable.

Seeing as he's new to the PS3, we'd better let him settle in before sending glitches his way...

You know, Comphermc, you're no fun... but I suppose you are right, since he needs to get used to the PS3 controls, tools and differences.
Also there is another PS3 difference that I forgot to place- there are 3 types of checkpoints in the PS3. The Infinite checkpoint, which acts like the PSP one, the normal checkpoint, which gives you only 4 lives, and the double life, with 8 lives.
Oh, and we all forgot to say that there's the fact you can play with 3 more sacks in the PS3... but that is somewhat obvious.
I also note that the PS3 sticker switches will make the attached material glow green if you're about to place the correct sticker, but it will glow red if you're using th wrong one.
