The Odyssey: Part 2 - The Rise of a Champion. Now requesting beta testers! :)
Archive: 20 posts
Hey all, The Odyssey part 2 is my latest project, and the one that's kept me occupied over the last couple of weeks in between bouts of FFXIII. As you might have guessed, this is the 2nd full level in my series about the Trojan War. You can find the prologue and part 1 of this series here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=19997-The-Odyssey-Prologue-Journey-to-Troy&p=353982#post353982) and here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23655-The-Odyssey-Part-1-The-Sacking-of-Troy). I've created this thread for a couple of reasons... 1. To keep me on task and thinking about the level, 2. To get some early feedback and suggestions, 3. To show those that are interested what I've been working on! This level picks up immediately where the last one left off, and will showcase the destruction of the city of Troy, the murder of King Priam, a hunt for the fleeing survivors, and the departure back to Ithica. I've found that I've been having some difficulties coming up with unique game play ideas that both fit in the Trojan War setting, and are fun to play. Any suggestions along this level would be awesome! EDIT: The level is very close to being fully finished! It's taken me a lot longer than expected, and I had to split the level into two parts. The Odyssey: Part II (a) and The Odyssey: Part II (b). If any of you would be so kind, I would love some preemptive feedback on these levels before I publish them officially! To access the levels just go to my lock box and enter the following code: Lockbox code: Green Pink Blue Blue Red I would really appreciate it if you could leave your thoughts and feedback here, or send me a pm! Either works! Things that I an concerned about / Aren't quite done yet: - Over / Under stickering and decorating. Mainly in part (b) Not sure if my sense of decor was bang on or not... What do you think? - The elevator section (again part b) This includes the elevator itself and the challenges that surround it. I'm mainly concerned that they will confuse people or people won't know where to go. Tell me if you have problems! - The final boss: (In part b!) Mostly concerned if people will know how to kill him. He may be too hard also... - Multiplayer: I haven't really had many chances to run through my level with 3 or 4 people. If any of you could do that and try to break it for me, I would be very happy Part A: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_34.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_35.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_36.jpg Part B: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_37.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_38.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_39.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_40.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_41.jpg Thanks for your interest and feedback! | 2010-04-07 06:21:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |

i will be happy to beta test your level, add me on psn. IDEA: would the player/ sack be playing as achilles, if so then should could there be a small boss battle between Paris who uses a bow and arrow in the gardens of Troy to try and kill sack, i know in greek mythology Paris actually kills achilles in the achilles heel but you can cut that bit out maybe | 2010-04-07 15:56:00 Author: geddez12 Posts: 338 |
Thanks for the offer and idea Geddez. I actually did something like that for the final boss of part 1 lol. You had to dodge arrows from an archer (not really Paris, but he was who inspired it) and make him fall from his perch by destroying the columns that supported it. | 2010-04-08 06:20:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
so how big is this series going to be? is it going to be just the battle of troy or will there be other quests such as killing the cyclops Polyphemus? | 2010-04-08 12:38:00 Author: geddez12 Posts: 338 |
looking very nice, should be a must play! | 2010-04-08 13:11:00 Author: Pattington_Bear Posts: 777 |
This looks amazing! I loved the first one and part 2 looks even better! One of the best creators at using the 3D glitch! | 2010-04-08 13:28:00 Author: Rhys125 Posts: 841 |
This level should conclude the Trojan War part of the story, And I've got plans to make a 3rd and maybe even 4th part detailing the killing the cyclops, and returning to Ithica. After all of the parts are done, I think I'll probably go and remake the prologue to bring it up to snuff with the rest of the work. It's gonna take a while lol. | 2010-04-08 16:44:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
I'd love yout to make a long series, based on Odysseus' odyssey, with a lot of Greek monsters :hero: Such the Sirens, the Cyclops,... | 2010-04-08 17:37:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |

Bump for huge update Now requesting beta testers! Please read the first post | 2010-06-09 07:26:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
Heya :hero: I've played both parts, and I haven't noticed any major bug. Part A : However, at the beginning, we can see the square with the checkpoint, you didn't hide it with a thin layer. The global lighting at the beginning seems too slow, we can see that the characters are made of dissolve material before it turns dark. After killing the warrior wedging the door shut, we start fighting others. The gas on the third warrior's spear is 2 layers-thick, so we can go past it. The face of the man lying on the floor is bare, but I guess it's normal. But it's not glued to the rest of the body, has it been cut off ? I don't think I've got that. Part B : Nothing's wrong, except after defeating the boss. White gas appeared and killed me, but I simply respawned into the battleground, I couldn't advance. About the boss battle, I found it a bit hard as it's difficult to throw the rocks onto the platform, but it's not impossible. I did enjoy them, it's become one of my favorite series in LBP ^^ Great job. | 2010-06-09 11:52:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
Thanks for the test run Oddmania! Most of the issues with part A were due to the fact the level wasn't quite done yet... It's now finished, and updated so those few oddities and glitches are fixed. I also fixed the problem with part b, thanks! | 2010-06-10 01:21:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
