Yeti In The Alpine!Fastbro
Welcome back to the Alpine, Sackboy. Its time to save the day once again!
Hey guys! Here's my entry for the "What Did Sackboy Do Next?" Contest over at LittleBigWorkshop! I decided to go for an Alpine Run theme, as it was my favorite section from story mode. This level was interesting to make as it made me try a different style of design rather to the one I normally use. (Though I tried to stick in a bit of my humour ) So I hope you enjoy playing my level!

Couldn't think of a decent pun for this one...

Hey FB! I'm just gonna give a quick bit of feedback for this level: It's a fun one, but doesn't really feel like the Alpine set. Everything just still has that Fastbro vibe to it. Regardless, it's still closer to the theme than our competitors, so I am sure you'll grab a sticker. 4/5 :star:s and a heart.2010-04-05 20:22:00

When I saw your level rating, I thought wow...
3 stars? So I thought it would be bad because of the rating.

Until I played the level, I thought it was absolutely GREAT!!!
This isn't a lie by the way, because I'm an honest person.
I can understand how you got the three star rating, but I think it deserved more better ratings.

As I played through, it SOOO reminded me of The Alpines.
I thought I was playing The Alpines all over again.
I can see why you got bad rating though.
As you see, The Alpines don't remind you anything of a tundra.
Although, that's the point of the contest, to make it look like an original story level continued on.

I thought the level was outstanding.
I like how you used materials that The Alpines have used to build the levels.
As the cabin reminded me of The Alpines.
The ice and background reminded of The Alpines.

It was a sharp and absolute level. I enjoyed every step of the level.
Although, I only had one problem with the level.
Something that is to late to fix for the contest I can say, but it doesn't mean you can't fix it.

Here's the problem, the story ended without a conclusion.
It just shows the yeti giving you back the grandfatherclock.
You could have done a quest to bring it back to the Alpine looking people. (I don't know what they're suppose to be)
I pulled it off with "R.I.P. Sack" and I think you can pull it off.

It's more of an add on to the level, but it'll improve the storyline and increase the length.
You don't have to do this, but it'll help.
Like I said, I enjoyed your visuals so much that I gave you a 5 star :star::star::star::star::star:
Will be looking forward to your next levels.
I think you'll earn a rare sticker as well too. Remember, the people arn't the judges, the contest host are.

Edit: Unnecessary, but NEW AVATAR FTW!!!!

I originally had a section like that planned. (It involved you riding on top of the clock back to the house. But the sliding didn't work to well due to the shape of the clock. So I taken the easy option. I would love to go back and alter the ending. But seeing as though the contest has only just ended I don't want to risk being disqualified.

I think you'll earn a rare sticker as well too. Remember, the people arn't the judges, the contest host are.
Thanks again!

Hey Fb!

I loved this level. Your best yet! The thing that impressed me the most was how much it looks and feels like The Alpine story mode levels. Ok, so that was the point... I know. But you did a great job with it. The stickering, setpieces, and characters are all very good, and so is the humor! It's subtle but very funny, and the Yeti's closing comments are absolutely hilarious. The platforming is a little on the simple side but it's still well put together and fun. I like your use of the "spinny swingy grab wheel" as a recurring game mechanic. It works well with the Clock Hans and stolen clock storyline too. The crate/key puzzle is fun, although the crate itself is just the tiniest bit too big and heavy - it still plays well though. I was a little curious why you didn't use the game-provided key, but I really liked how the dissolved once you used it so no complaints there. One thing I did think of is something I just started doing myself, and that's using creature brains to destroy things. Just use a really long, invisible string to connect anything you want to an off-screen block with a brain attached. Trigger the brain and anything connected to it goes away. Pretty cool and much easier to put together than an emitter/remitter setup.

I don't have loads more suggestions. The level is a bit short..... but I really hate it when people use that as a complaint so scratch that. I'll take quality over quantity any day of the week, and there's some good quality here. For my money I think it holds very true to the spirit of the WDSD contest and yet still has a touch of your own style. Just about the only other gripe I had is that the score bubbles in a couple spots get in the way of the crate, and in the icicle section you must pop them to get the crate through. Why would someone want to not get the bubbles but still move the crate, I don't know, but it's just something I noticed.

5 stars and a heart Fb, and you already have a creator heart from me. Very nicely done!

Hidy Ho Fastbro! I told you I would check this out right when I got home today, and that't what I did :-)

This level is a lot of fun, and it is a great continuation of the story levels! You did an excellent job of carrying over the story level vibe :-)

I loved the mechanics that you used throughout the level, like pushing the button to move the spinning sponges down.

The scenery was very well handled as well. I noticed a lot of well placed stickers, and the clock shop looked great :-)

It's really silly that this level has 3 stars. I would strongly guess that it is due to other contestants in the competition going around rating all of the competition levels 1 star to try to increase the chances of them being one of the highest rated, even though it doesn't matter how high a level is rated. Sorry that you fell victim to this. I did notice that you have one misspelled word, so once the competition is over, you could republish for that and get rid of those stupid low ratings if you feel the urge to do so :-)

Awesome level Fastbro!

Hey FB, I really enjoyed this, and afterwards (like the others here) was very surprised it was averaging 3 stars. Was quite well made, a good job of recreating that alpine feel. I liked the yeti watching TV a lot, actually- it kinda reminded me of Sam & Max Hit the Road (old PC adventure game) The ending may have been abrupt as others have noted but I didn't really notice it ^_^ Definitely one of your best so far, looking forward to your next level!2010-04-11 17:52:00

Hey Fastbro,

I think this is your best level so far, particularly in terms of visuals. You really deserved that rare sticker because this felt like a continuation of the storymode alpine levels, except it was slightly even better due to the humorous ending. I would suggest you keep working on the gameplay though so you can make your level really stand out from the rest. I know you'll eventually make it to the Spotlighted levels; it's only a matter of time.

Congratulations on the Spotlight nod my friend!

We all really enjoyed this level Fb. It was one of the best entries in the WDSD contest and also very much got the attention of the Spotlight team.

Keep up the good work!

P.S. Try asking JKThree or someone else to get you some better quality pictures.

To tell you the truth, I was skeptical about the whole WDSD contest thing, but in the end it has provided us some good levels that expand the Story Mode without lacking any quality.

Like this one. If you hadn't played the original level, you couldn't really tell when the "new" sections of the level begin. Reaching this high quality skills is not easy, and you should be very proud. There were some good puzzles throughout the level, and fantastic visuals. My favourite part was the room where the Yeti was watching TV. Impressive work of art, with a clever use of perspective. Congratulations!

Thanks guys! I wasn't expecting to get a spotlight nod (or whatever its called) so it was a nice surprise. I've only just started my next level and its going in an rpg direction.

Played this earlier, it was great, it reminded me alot of the Alpine area in Story-mode. The gameplay and visuals were good, and the humor was what made this level so awesome. I liked the yeti's hideout too, but of course I can't tell you where that is, because I don't want a bathtub full of custard. So, all in all, this was a great level, and I look forward to your future work.

Hey I saw this on the spotlight, and I thought it looked good. I tried it yesterday, and it was quite enjoyable. Very true to the storymode. Greatly adapted the fealing. The humour was great, and the end was fun. The only issue I have is, that it was be a bit short.. But I also have problems about creating too short levels too.

Would you like to play my level called The Gardens PSP? And then leave feedback in my thread??

Hey Fastbro,

Only just got around to playing this! I've been a bit behind on playing community levels recently, but I'm trying to catch up now.

I knew this would be good since it was a contest winner, but I was really impressed nevertheless with how well you recreated the look of the original Alpine Run levels. You have some great gameplay in here too and your characters are awesome (and funny - I like the last one!).

While I liked the crate pushing section, it was quite a long way to push the crate considering how slowly it moves. People do generally assume that the average LBP downloader has an extremely short attention span, but I'm sure it's not that big a deal here, and you won a ribbon anyway, so who cares about caveats? ^_^

Anyway, I think this was your best level to date, keep up the good work
