Tuning up Theziminvader's sketches

I made this thanks to TheZimInvader, and her talent. (Check her sketches here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24750-Sackboy-Request-Thread) and here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24551-Sackboy-Doodles-Art)!)
I redrawn the nice sketch she made of my sackboy in Illustrator (Adobe vector program) ,
I reworked some shapes, added some details and colorized it... !

Here's new sackboys drawings that Leather-Monkey asked me to do for the Sackinima project.
There were an original logo and 3 sackboys, initially made by EnterMEUN (a member here),
L-M asked if I could redesign and improve them, in a smoother and cleaner style!

It took more than 6 hours to do mine, cause it's not very simple or quick to make

Daj, that looks awesome! Very well done.

I too have illustrator, but haven't done much to learn how to use it. I am familiar with photoshop, so the transition should be manageable, right?

Do you use a tablet of some kind, or is it all mouse-based? I have only a mouse-y, but I was curious.

Well Photoshop and Illustrator have some things in commun,
but in the same time they are completely different (maybe you already know) :

- Illustrator creates vector graphics that consist of lines and curves that contain mathematical objects called vectors.
- And Photoshop creates bitmapped graphics. Bitmaps consist of tiny dots of color (resolution / dots per inch)

For example, you can scale a vector graphic to any size without losing quality, but a bitmap image will change quality if you enlarge it or reduce it.

I think the most difficult to master in Illustrator is too draw with the vector lines, using the anchor points, to make the shape you want, the smoother possible...

It need practice like everything, but I'm sure it will be easy for you, cause I think you have the mind to understand how it works

And I just use a mouse, a tablet being maybe more useful in Photoshop, but it works too.

Thanks, Daj. Yeah, I know all about the Pen tool from using photoshop, so converting, I don't think, would be an issue. I would be more limited by my lack of artistic skill!

I just opened illustrator long enough to notice that using the brush tool makes auto-corrected/smooth vectors (which was totally awesome!). However, I haven't the skill with a mouse to draw accurately in that manner.

So, it strike me that you just have to lay out all of the vectors and then apply the Fill tool. Seems simple enough... I would just need the time to actually try it out!

Oh yeah I forgot about the Pen in Photoshop... :blush:
Well let's just that in Illustrator, the main tool is the Pen, but more easy to use and with more options and possibilities, than in Photoshop, and yes it's not really complicated, you trace your shapes and you apply colors, gradient or effects...

But yes, it needs trials and practice to discover more

@Alec, he had an accident while chopping up some carrots, unfortuntley his skin is also orange.

This is Fantastique! J'adore utiliser Illustrator!
It's so much easier(IMO) and it's a wonderful program.

Your version of Zim's doodle is sure better but really similar.

Well yes it's similar because, as I said I'm not very good at drawing, so that's why I traced Zim's sketch..
Basically, I imported the original picture in my Illustrator file, then traced the new drawing on it.
After that, when the global shapes were done, I removed the picture and I worked on the face to make him look more kiddish, so more cute...		2010-04-06 02:34:00

Super cute daj!

I've got Illustrator at work and I'm in it so rarely my skills have atrophied I think. It's a great program especially for those who draw in real life. I tend to just use Photoshop for most of my illustration work since I'm much faster in Photoshop.		2010-04-06 15:57:00

vector is one of my favorite forms of computer graphics art, i cant believe how awesome those sackboys turned out! i going to download illustrator and give this a shot. 2010-04-08 17:17:00

Argh...So I FINALLY got through all the downloading to get a trial of Illustrator, and...I haven't the slightest clue how to work with it. There's so much to know, too many tools, and it's really different from Photoshop so I don't even know where the brush settings are or how to crop. I've explored the pencil and brush tools already, but...I just don't get how to make curves with the pen tool. Photoshop's pen tool is so much easier to me, and here I thought that would at least help me to get used to this one. x_x

I made another one, always based on Theziminvader drawings : SpiderJew sackboy.

Contrary to the original sketch, I decided to add the eyes and the mouth,
so that he looks more like a sackboy with a spiderman costume instead of a "mini" spiderman (if you know what I mean...)

Not the best but I like it, even if he looks a little crazy... lol

Those pictures are really cool but I don't see myself redoing already finished illustrations,
from people that I don't know, who maybe would not be ok for it (I asked Zim if she didn't mind...)

What I like in Zim's stuff is that they are quick hand drawn sketches
and that I can make a finished, clean version of them...

Well I don't know if I should be proud of myself, but as a graphic designer,
it's my job to be able to make those kind of things, and to know how to use the progams the best way I can

The only thing I can say, is that I have a lot of pleasure doing drawings or artworks on a subject i love (LBP),
and I like sharing them with the great encouraging people here!

Here's new sackboys drawings that Leather-Monkey asked me to do for the Sackinima project.
As I love the sackinima videos, I was glad to help
There was an original logo and 3 sackboys, that were made by EnterMEUN (a member here),
L-M asked if I could improve them in a smoother and cleaner style.

A basic version of Photoshop is often pre-installed on some computers,
but yes or you buy them (expensive cause it's mostly for professional use)
or you can download trial versions on Adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/)...
