Isn't he the best rapper ever? I'm not typically a big hip-hop fan, but wow, he's amazing. Not to mention that he actually raps over music. A lot of rap today is just a beat over some hilarious simple melody thing that sounds it was made by a 5 year old with one finger. This album has changed my perspective on Kanye West. There's some really cool sampling work in this, too.

It's so refreshing to hear a rapper rap about something that's real. Sure, he still raps about women in a rather objectifying manner, but the way he does it is real. He's never excessive about it like every other rapper today. He's the best. 		2010-04-05 01:27:00

Eh... I guess I'm too old or somethin'. I can't get into this style of hip hop. Most of what's out there today in the mainstream just makes me sad, really. I can't give props to Kanye at all. However, if you would like to hear someone who knows a lot about creating beats and sampling in unique ways, check out El-P. Here's a track he featuring The Mars Volta. But, you probably won't like it.

Kid Cudi is good, but I wouldn't say the best. There are many rappers that rap about 'real' things.

But it depends on what you mean about real. Real to me can be exactly what a person wants, desires, or has been through in life experience (bad or good).

I can assume i hate all rap because i do, with the exception of White & Nerdy by Wierd Al and the songs off B2C, which is kinda by Saosin. Both are parodies/mocking it. Other than that, i don't care for any of it. Listening to it annoys me, and i don't like it. Come on UncreativeUserName! Not ALL rap/rappers are about drugs and crap, so just relax, alright? There's no need to go on a rant! It's just a little thread on a forum dedicated to LBP. No place and no reason to get worked up...

Kid Cudi is amazing. The best in my mind. Close second goes to Lupe Fiasco though. Both have lyrics that aren't incredibly pointless and just plain annoying. I'm sorry, but I just don't like Lil Wayne. His voice is just annoying to me. "Young Weezy, Young Weezy" every song!! So repetitive and I just think it's weird. That's just my opinion though, don't get mad at me for saying anything! Haha!

Lupe has a bunch of good songs. I can't remember them right off the top of my head though. I do like Superstar and Daydreamin. They are good.

I mostly listen to pop and alternative. So when I hear rap/hip-hop like Lupe's and Cudi's I really get into it and enjoy it.

Another artist I'm beginning to enjoy is B.o.B. His latest songs "Don't Let Me Fall" and "Nothing on You" were very good. He's not a modern rapper. No drugs, he doesn't talk negatively about women or people, doesn't use many, if any, swear words, and he sounds good. He can actually sing too! I'd like to see some of the most popular rappers try to actually put a few notes together and reall sound close to decent. So, B.o.B. Is definitely a close third.

Man I went all out in that post... Won't see another one of those coming from me in a while!

It seems to me that you don't actually listen to hip-hop, or good hip hop at least. Maybe you've been watching too much Fox news and not enough actual rap, or maybe you don't understand that these songs aren't supposed to be guidelines to your life. Sure, Eminem made a song about killing his wife, but, on a deeper level, that song is actually about Eminem's own insecurities. Eminem isn't a role model, and he doesn't try to come off as one. Have you ever heard the song "Stan"? I think it's one of Eminem's best songs and is about how you shouldn't take what he says in his songs so literally.

Also, you act as if bad influences in music are exclusive to the rap genre. Bad influence plagues the whole music industry. Metal bands are constantly trying to outdo eachother with violent and disturbing lyrics, though I think that the effort they put into sounding "brutal" just comes off as hilarious, Norwegian metal bands are burning down churches, pop music in general promotes promiscuity. I don't remember many hip-hop songs talking about not valuing education, though I do remember quite a lot of metal songs about that. There are a lot of musicians who criticize educational institutions but I've never heard a musician denounce an education's importance. You hate the culture and in turn you hate the art that that culture worships.

You say that rap is bad because it promotes violence, drugs, and sex. Does this mean you hate Grand Theft Auto? Grand Theft Auto promotes violence, sex, and drugs. It rewards you for breaking the law and killing police officers. A lot of video games promote violence, sex, and drugs, but you wouldn't say that you hate video games and hope every video game developer dies, would you?

I understand where you're coming from to an extent. I went through a phase a couple years ago where I despised the hip-hop culture. I moved on, though, because the people who take the lyrics in these songs seriously are destined to be failures. It's not the music, it's them. They have screwed up morals.

Yeah, Jay-Z is beginniing to grow on me too. He's songs aren't near as terrible as I thought they were. And if you haven't listened to Lupe, you should start with "Hip Hop Saved My Life", "Daydreamin", or "Superstar." I only suggest those because they are the only ones I can remember the names of... Haha! I'm sure he's got tons of other great songs.
