Hellfire Tomb 2

I have returned to inform players of LBP that there have been some fixes within my hellfire 2 level the the camera work has been redone again by Mrtran once again as well as making the underwater spike tunnel wider so its easier to navigate through it without sacrificing the challenge to it and many other little bug fixes here and there to keep unfair deaths from happening as much as possible and i must im very satisfied with it the changes i must have played over this level at least 50 to 100 times to make sure it worked the way i wanted it to so plz i ask players of LBP would you be kind enough to check out my level again and give me your constitutive insight i would be grateful.2010-04-04 23:50:00

No problem. This is a great second level. You've got the visuals and the lighting down. Also got good gameplay. Too bad the level was so short. Give me Hellfire Tomb 3 now 2010-04-05 00:20:00

Thx you so much Roadxkill i worked so hard on this level compared to my first one i kinda half assed but this one i took my time with this one and it really payed off ill be makeing a Hellfire tomb 3 at some point cant sat when though level makeing really drains the hell outta me2010-04-05 10:52:00

I just played this.

Here's some of the things I liked :

The art style and lighting was indeed pretty good. I really loved the font you used to create the letters welcome to hell. It gives the level that creepy atmosphere very well.

You definately had some nice ideas here, despite it's short lenght it already showed you do have skill to create a good level. Just need a bit more practice and I'm sure you'll be a great creator

One small thingy though: the skull with the monster horns on it really did not match very well in my opinion. I suggest re-creating that part by creating the entire creature yourself or try using different combinations.

Hi RiseOvBaphomet.

Will type as I play.
Nice lighting effects, I liked the fact you made it so you can walk on the fire at the begining.
Not too keen on the spelling of 'ov' for of.
Man, the pillars moving up and down with spikes is hard, would have liked an infinate lives check point here, had to restart game. **** it, got through, and died the other end, could do with a save at the other end.Got through again and died...restart. (I've mentioned MANY times before in other threads, I'm not very good at these games, handing the controller over to my partner, she can't bear watching me die again) LOl she did it first time, but she died in the part just after the spiked pillars, the platforms she used to jump on have now dissapeared so it's making it tough now. (worked the skull bit out) BEGGING for a save point after that part!, YAY! (really enjoyed that bit, just a shame about no infinate lives)
Nice looking water cave. (so hoping this check point in the caves is infinate lives, a little tough) Could do with a save at the skull. The camera angles are a little off where the spikes come out in the caves.
Ok, used up all the lives having to play a third time...mmm
Ok, so used all my lives up again.

A real nice looking game, some very nice ideas, but too tough.

If you could change the points I mentioned about infinate saves, and adding a few other save points, I'd love to RE-REVIEW it, and I'll happily edit this review, but alas, it was just to difficult for both I and my partner, sorry.

Well done for the changes!!! I completed the game, and thoroughly enjoyed it this time. I dont think I have any cryticisms now, good job, great game! 5 stars!

Just got finished playing your level. Definately like the mood you set at the opening, and little details (even the way the doors open) show off your unique sense of style. I'd say that's definately your level's strongpoint - it's incredibly hard to make a legitimately scary atmosphere in a game as cutesy as LBP!

I'm not sure what you changed since Shade_seeker played, but I still had a lot of the same problems (although it does look like you added infinite life checkpoints! Thank goodness). I'll run through my list, so you can determine if it's anything you'd like to fix.

1. For the spikes on the pillars, the camera angle really doesn't help you figure out the pattern (is there one?) I started by trying to carefully dodge each pillar but I soon realized that doesn't work. So, I started to just run under the pillars as fast as I could. That worked for half the pillars, but then I would run into one off-camera. I think ultimately I only got through on luck.

2. For the collapsing platforms and the skulls, I believe the rocks that come out with the skull actually knocked me out of the air. (I was doing fine until then!) Could you perhaps emit those rocks on a different layer than the player is jumping on?

3. In the water, the camera was often situated so that I couldn't see what was coming up ahead, which resulted in at least one unexpected death.

Overall, I enjoyed the level. 4/5 stars! After I'm done writing this review I'm going to go try the prequel you made!

Sickivionkey thx for playing my level i have made even more changes to my level once again lmao everyone seems to have a trouble with the cams which i find rather odd I and Mrtran cant seem to see much issue with them but i took a second look anywho i got rid of the cam in the underwater pillar part so it should make things easier plz keep in mind this level in not suppose to be easy my first level i found much harder even i have a hard time beating it as for the falling platforms befour the water part i noticed that part will kill you if your not quick enough your idea is really good indeed i hadn't though of that i shall work on that part cuz i have trouble there as well as for the pillars moving up and down there pattern is odd but i never had alot of trouble there but ill look into makeing it better once again thx alto for playing my level i should have these issues fixed soon i will suggest however DO NOT be hasty with my level you will die often if you are lol2010-04-07 14:47:00

The difficulty of the level should have nothing to do with the cameras, and I think you've missed that point here. For example, if you get killed by something you can't see, that's not difficult, that's impossible. Generally this is considered an unfair death. It's not a challenge, it's not compelling, it's not interesting, it's just frustrating.

An example of that in this level is the pillars with spikes on the bottom that you have to run underneath. You can see the first few, but the last ones are out of sight to begin with. Naturally you make the assumption that the last ones will be in sync with the beginning ones, but they aren't. THere is no way to actually know this when you commit, so unless you are unbelievably quick at adjusting your plan as the camera jerks around you will die. After a couple of deaths that allowed me glimpses of the last pillars, I understood the pattern and that section became very easy. The point here is that you have a very easy obstacle, which is made difficult by the camera, which is simply unfair and is just going to irritate the player.

Visibility is important when creating - you know what is going to happen in the next bit of the level, but your players don't. You can't assume they have the same level of knowledge that you do. And this becomes even more important in difficult levels as the margins between challenging and frustrating becomes even smaller. There aren't actually any truly hard bits in this level, the only sections I struggled with where the ones that had visibility issues.

Hopefully that helps explain the importance of cameras to you, and how it should have nothing to do with the difficulty. So now something a little more positive. Visually, this level had a lot of great stuff going on, it had a really nice art style and I really liked your use of the VR material for the details. Just tune up the visibility and you'll have a great level here.

As a side note, I did play a couple of days ago, so if you've made any changes in that time then I won't have taken them into account.

Even though. It's a great work. You done really good with the visuals. I couldn't complete this level though. The spike part in the water was too hard in my opinion. I died for too many reasons I couldn't see.

I played your level one before this. And I had a good time.. I got the high-score. 3400. Almost a 1000 more than the 2nd place. I don't know how I was that good. I felt I was pretty lucky. Great first level by the way.

A really creepy and dark theme, who's too much for me. I don't hope your into satanist things in real life.

I took on your level as not a lot had... I was rewarded with an awkward experience. First off, I am not religious in anyway whatsoever, on one census-thingy, I listed it as Jedi. So now you know where I'm coming from. I do however believe in the sanctity of Life and your level seemed to accomplish its' goal of unnerving me! Not my cup ov tea!

With that said, your level is a feast or should I say beast? it is Mechanically sound and has a slight difficulty. I fully expected your crumbling platforms to reset or remit-- they did not, what an odd choice to make? Your dialogue is convincing. It is about this time that I realize your level is beautiful and I can't wait to get out of here. At the fork, i didn't care for the camera angle, and boy oh boy! what choices you've given me. I start wondering if this Christian is in Hell how am I supposed to go about killing him? isn't he dead already?... Then I think if this level actually does find a wider audience what does that say about the world? About the creator? And how long will it be before this thing is 'good griefed' because like it or not, just a game or not, I think you might be upsetting or offending a lot of people.

I gave it 4 stars and a 'creepy' tag as it is. I enjoyed the 'Even Hell has water these days dip..." and liked the puzzle. The camera was terrible down there as I was past all the peril before it ever caught up... But really found myself filled with so many questions.

If this is the game you wanna make, well good for you... It was pretty and creepy and there wasn't a whole lot to do in a really really short level... and i was happier for that.

Gravel thx you very much for playing my level im glad you had somewhat of a good time with it sadly not much i can do about the cams anymore i keep adjusting them and no one seems happy with it hell i even deleted some of them to eliminate some of the issue and still no still seems satisfied i even had a friend come in and help me with the cams MrTran was that person you have played his levels befour im sure so you know his skill with level makeing and even then people still complained about the cams me and him both are just scratching our heads to this i am sry you had a bad time with the cams however this was not intentional really.

as for the level being unnerving yes that is exactly how i wanted i made the level to express my my hatred towards Christians i think we all say its safe to say better i take my anger out on LBP than in real life clearly that wouldn't end wel lmao

As for if my level finds and wider audience i honestly could careless what others think of me or my level if they like me great if not i could careless and if i get good greifed cuz some bible thumper gets butt hurt over my level i really could careless i hope i do offend some bible thumpers they offend me every time they tell me im going to hell cuz i refuse to bow befour there god so i say bring it oh and plz don't take this as an attitude i mean this in a respectful and calm manner believe it or not

Here's what I have to say now that I replayed it and read the posts.

Honestly, I was so sure the cameras were fine when I fixed them. You could see the next spike pillar in the water ahead of where you were at all times. It was probably far from perfect, but I believe it did the job done. But I realize that not everyone is like me so oh well.

Putting the hate religion story aside, I found this level to be a short, visual, and enjoyable level to play. The lighting in the water was excellent as well as the props put in the water to give it that bloody "hellish" feeling. It shows the amount of attention put into it by just looking at the details. Unfortunately, this level is so short due to the thermo which is my only gripe about it. I guess the thermo doesn't really like RiseOvBaphomet .

Thanks for checking out my odyssey level. Here's your F4F. I just played through your level and it was... interesting.

On a visual level, I'd say you're bang on. You've created a great atmosphere and the level looked fantastic. From a game play perspective, it was fun. I liked the falling platforms and tunnel collapses, and the swimming section was great too. overall a really solid level.

The subject matter was the most mature i've ever seen in lbp. I'm sure that you will accomplish your goal of insulting many 'bible thumpers' lol. While I am religious, I didn't really take offense to your level as i played through it. I'm honestly quite impressed that such a fine product was made about such a controvercial topic. It was very bold of you, to say the least. I can't say that I agree with your views, but I'm not about to disrespect your opinions either.

That being said, I hope that your level doesn't insult anyone because for one, the last thing you want while playing a video game is to be insulted and two, it was a unique experience and I hope it doesn't get moderated. Hopefully those that play it can take it with a grain of salt.

In conclusion, it was a unique experience, and as you said, a good way to express yourself. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

great level!
the scenery was great and i enjoyed the underwater part!

some things i had trouble with were

the spikes in the water, they were a bit hard to get past, i kept died and having to swim back down.
the collapsing platforms, even though they had skulls to grab it was still hard to get to them.
the spike things before the collapsing platforms they were really hard to get past, you could probably put a checkpoint right after them.
and i had no idea what i had to do at the start... maybe you could make that more clear.

well done of the level!
