Post your stupidity in LBP!

Archive: 73 posts

Simple question: What's the silliest thing you have ever done in LBP?

For me, I thought you could never delete stickers and decorations, until about three days ago (I have had LBP ever since Christmas 09)....I've been doing a lot of pod-restarts and rewinding....

Mine was a few days ago when I put 3 'Aced' prizes at the scoreboard in my new level and only later realised it's impossible to ace because I have to 'transport' the player twice during the intro. Oops ! Fixed now.2010-04-04 12:41:00

Spending 4 weeks on creating a boss, optimising logic, creating cool log-cannons..
only to find out that both ceiling, left and right wall and floor are blocked off by walls/ceilings/boss/canons.
So I had no way to get my sackboy there.

I didn't have a clue you could glue stuff to the front or back until my 3rd or 4th level. Seriously handy. Didn't know you could delete stickers with triangle until a while back too when a friend done it and I was like, what do you just do? Do it again! Probably the biggest stupidness was no knowing how to make my sack nod his head/ shake hips. I could see everyone else all animated and nodding and I was just standing there lifeless. Admittedly I still am not that used to tilting the controller much as I only figured it out recently, but when I remember I go nuts 2010-04-04 18:36:00

You forgot about the things in your Fuchikoma level like making it difficult to get out of the boat onto the pier which means you sometimes get crushed by it before you even start the level, then not putting a checkpoint between there and the next hazardous section and even worse not telling players they need prizes on meaning that when they get to the locked door requiring a custom sticker you put in a bubble they can't continue the level.

@mistervista
Whoever has problems to get out of the boat and even dies there must suck harder then life itself because I never saw a singel person with that problem. Not to get past the camera is something impossible aswell because someone even said to me that it is so easy it's obviously just for the atmosphere and about the sticker thing there is a speachbubble about it.

I didn't know how to use zoom with the camera tool until last week...
and I've had LBP since the launch date and BETA!
EDIT: I remebered my true crisis... as you know I was with LBP since launch date...
The thing is, I didn't know about the Playstation Store, so I forgot to get the firt week shirt.
But then again, I'm in America, so I'll have to say I forgot the spacesuit.

You can't. I always thought you could glue things in the back to things in the front until recently. I don't get why though. It would be a simple fix and would help so much...

When I made my first level, I didn't knew you could do thicker layers so my level had platforms with the three layers separate XD
And it took me some time before I found out that switches could be tweaked in "side" "one shot" ,etc XD The way I was doing "pistons stairs" is now hilarious when I look at it

Oh wait another silliness! I was always thinking to myself wouldn't it be so handy if I could emit something only once very quickly. Because I found to make something happen fast setting speed to .1 was necessary but with on/off lots of things just start emitting one after another which is undesirable. This feeling lasted several levels. Then I discovered what one shot was for.. about a week ago!2010-04-06 03:46:00

About two weeks ago I was making a tank that blew up after taking enough damage, but instead of hooking the explosives up to a the paintinator switch, I hooked it up to a sensor switch that turned on the lights when you entered the tank. I saved it and didn't realize my error until a few hours ago. FML2010-04-06 04:05:00

Wait, what? How do you do this?

when you have an object selected for gluing, hold the right? left? triggers while gluing, forget which one, don't have the game at the moment, to select forward/backward. you can also use the left analog stick to glue up or down or side to side.

Oh geez... weirdest thing I ever did? make custom chattering teeth after seeing the regular slow ones.. Cranked up the speed and made the funniest item ever! (It eventually evolved into a balloon floaty creature and then the ants in my most recent level). Also, didn't know that when you select a corner with the corner editor that you could jump to other corners with R1 and L1 (BEST THING EVER!! Thank you, Luos!)2010-04-06 10:22:00

You can glue in any direction. Just hold the direction you want to glue in while gluing, so to glue to something in front of the selected object, just hold L1.

I also didnt know that you could select a whole object to delete it instead of deleting it bit by bit!

An alternative to box-selecting then deleting is to just hold down triangle for a couple of seconds, which will delete the highlighted component and anything it's glued to.

Back before Mythicos II came out, i had created a level called Mythicos 2 Which is basically what we neow know as Mythicos III but with a bigger boss... anyways, I had it ready to publish. it was beta tested, and everything worked very nicely, but i accidentally erased it, intending to publish it... I cried a bit, but then moved on and made Mythicos II which was a widespread success and what I consider my very best work. so it all worked out in the end.2010-04-07 01:17:00

I made a level called Jazz, it didn't do so well with plays. So I decided to use the republishing trick with it, so I deleted the version off my planet, but then I realized, that was my only version, the last version...it didn't work out in the end.2010-04-07 01:20:00

until i read this thread i did not know you could glue to forward layers XD that helps me so much with complex stuff, btw heres something i discovered recently, some may not know of it. Selecting a corner while corner editing and then pressing L1 or R1 will instantly pop you to the next corner to the left or right, it helps me a lot now when editing large or complex shapes 2010-04-07 01:21:00

writing the word "Pedestall" over and over in the editor when Worm/Fred/mckamey where in the editor with me.
its a cencored word so everything i said was ***** over and over again.
took me 25 minutes before I quit writing pedestal.
so from now on pedestals are cencorpods!

anyways.. Way way back..
Wanting to make an icon for my level so I deleted all the sounds, wires and logic..
made the shot.
saved and went out the level.

What do you prefer to use OJ?

I didn't know you could enlarge stickers so when I made a polar bear it was literally covered in a ridiculous amount of white stickers.

I still cover stuff with a ridiculous amout of stickers but for a different reason.

Well... I use various shapes to cut away edges and corners. And... I only use the corner tool for jagged rocks, really.

I also use a ridiculous amount of stickers. One of my objects has so many stickers that it's nearly impossible to get a picture of it correctly without it glitching on me.

Oh, and I've played a russelsmussels level once. Worst thing I ever done!!

The stupidest thing I've ever done by far was in my last level. I play tested the boss in create mode, then saved the level and republished it without remembering to undo the play test. So in the level the boss was already dead and the level was unable to be passed. I found out about 4 hours later, and thanked god that I had a backup copy. But boy... that was stupid 2010-04-16 06:23:00

Well only yesterday I found out that…

When selecting something you’ve made… if you hold down triangle instead of just pressing it, it’ll delete the whole thing instead of just detaching parts!!! Like a community object.

YEEHAAA… no more making a box around everything to select it all!

I’m not sure if they added this, or its been here the whole time… but I had never heard of it before then, just accidently did it and was like Woah!

I think it's been in the game for a while, although it's not documented anywhere... well, except on various forums, including back on page 3 (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24852-Post-your-stupidity-in-LBP!&p=432665#post432665) of this thread.

I think I posted this on a similar thread a while ago, but I'll post it again.
In my very first level (freefall testing facility, it's still up if you want to play it) I used a really stupid idea of logic.
I needed to have a piece of dissolve disappear after you have killed the enemy in the level.
Of course, I could have added a magnetic key on the creature and then set a magnetic switch on inverted and make a large zone for it...

Well, I didn't know that it could be set on inverted, so I had a cool idea. I put a magnetic key on every single brain on the creature, then made that magnetic switch.
As I said, I didn't know about theinverted option so I attached two rocket on a block of stone, put it away from the screen. Then I built a cage out of dark matter around it. On the bottom I put a button and attached that to the dissolve I needed to disappear. Then I attached the magnetic switch to the rockets so that when all creature brains were gone the piece would fall on the button and then dissolve the door (or actually the piece of dissolve under the door so the door could fall into place...)

Apart from that, I really don't remember doing anything really stupid... maybe I'll come back if I remember.

Yesterday tried to make a windmill that rotates without bolts so I could emit into bg. Yeah after lets say a while I got it working and was chuffed.. then I realised the system was guaranteed to not work becuase the blades were in front of something else all along.. Had to delete and haven't tried again. If anyone has a clue pm me. Or even just confirm it's impossible because I can't think of a way other than having the blades maybe floating in mid air with no base, which would look silly.2010-04-19 16:34:00
