Mysterious Planet: Project FractureCamden1
http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy39/camden11/Mysterious%20Planet%20Project%20Fracture/APhoto_9.jpg"I have traveled through the center of the planet in hopes of stopping the Black Ore Project. I have detected intense radio signals, likely a symbol of another lab. I plan to explore"
This is the third level in my Mysterious Planet series. Like the other levels in the series, this is an open world exploration level, similar to Metroid, and features platforming, paintinating, and puzzles. The series has an ongoing story, so if you want to fully understand it, I recommend playing the other 2 levels, but it is not required. Also, due to the thermometer, I had to put the boss in a separate (much shorter) level. I'd appreciate some feedback on the boss level as well, but the main part is a complete experience on its own so it's fine if you don't want to play the boss. I'll be happy to do feedback for feedback, so feel free to post your levels here after playing mine.

Here are some screenshots:

Metroid style gameplay huh. That will be exciting. I haven't play the other 2 Mysterious Planet levels yet but the pics you posted looked great. I'll check out your Mysterious Planet levels the next time I play LBP. Funny that I found this thread 12 minutes after you posted it. Good timing.2010-04-03 16:33:00

Hope both of you guys like it! Also, Arradi, I've been meaning to play Red Eagle 2 for a while (I started it one time but didn't get very far) and I'm going to give it a shot today.2010-04-03 17:46:00

Camden...this is an excellent conclusion to the series! I love how you stuck to the same visual style throughout the entire series. The world that you created really felt different than anything i have seen on LBP. Great story, excellent platforming elements throughout...

Only a few hiccups...some of the music boxes around the underwater areas were visible...which you may have done on purpose..i dunno...
I remember you having a hard time making sure all of your logic was invisible on the last one...which I can completely understand in such a large scale setting.

It took me about an hour to complete...including the boss...but this was not a bad thing...

Bravo...5 Stars and a heart

Thanks for playing, Shawneboi! I'm glad you liked it. The music boxes were meant to be invisible, so thanks for letting me know. Though the ending may have seemed conclusive (and 3 is a round number), I have one more Mysterious Planet level in store.2010-04-04 04:51:00

This is well... I don't know which one is better anymore, your Mysterious planet or narF's Frozen in time!
It took an hour to complete, which is more than it takes me to complete Metroid: Zero mission...(current record 52 minutes)

Absolutely love the stormy atmosphere, clever puzzle platforming and exploring styled gameplay. My favourite contraption was the black ball maze in the west end. Although it was incredibly hard. Especially the part with the two vertically moving platforms. Then I figured out you could nudge the analog stick just a little so you wouldn't automatically fall off...

Only gripe I have is that the logo in the railway at the start looks a little edgy. On purpose? Oh, and when you got the stone tool it didn't tell you what it did so you had to figure out yourself.

My sticker menu is beginning to fill of all kinds of keys, essences and seals!
:star::star::star::star::star::star::star: and heart. I think this is the best Mysterious planet yet.

Thanks for playing, Arradi!I must say, I have never received a 7-star review before . The "Project Fracture" part of the logo was supposed to look edgy but thanks for pointing that out. After completing the stone tool (matter projector), a mouth was supposed to activate saying you got it and how to use it, so I'll have to make sure that works if it didn't for you. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and I'm really happy you liked it. Oh, and I played Red Eagle: B2 Bermuda and posted what I thought of it (awesome) on your page here for it.2010-04-04 13:47:00

Hey camden1: I've tried your level. And it had a great theme. I loved the level until a bug happenened, which made me unable to finish the level. It was just after the water had been purified. And then you needed to grab a sponge and swing over to grab another sponge. I fell off and down in the water. Then I was to try again, but for some reason the sponge was too high to reach. I hope you can fix this. Another thing is that I really did like the electrified text you made for your level and name. But the O in Mysterious wasn't the same O as the O in Project. Even though great level, and I'll try it again sometime.

Would you play my level: Dragon Ball - First Book. Not as open-ended level as yours. And then leave feedback in my thread. Link here:

I tried the level last night, but I got stumped and was unable to finish it. I made it through the underwater part and got the gloves, and then I got two of the three tool parts.

One part was here:
http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy39/camden11/Mysterious%20Planet%20Project%20Fracture/APhoto.jpg

The other was in the hill to the right of this screen:
http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy39/camden11/Mysterious%20Planet%20Project%20Fracture/APhoto_3.jpg

Am I supposed to have all 3 at this point? Did I miss one earlier in the level? I searched the level many times, but I can't seem to figure out where I'm supposed to go next.

Ghik: Thanks for playing! If you are referring to this area: http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy39/camden11/Mysterious%20Planet%20Project%20Fracture/APhoto_5.jpg
There is a lever underwater that controls the length of the thing you need to swing on. If it is in the right position you should be able to advance. If you're talking about another area, it is probably a bug, and I will see if I can fix it. I'll play your level and give you feedback the next time I'm on LBP.

Schwowsers: Thanks for playing! The piece you're missing is located in the cave to the right of the are in the picture above. To get to the stone tool piece, you put the underwater levels in the position opposite to what they should be to advance to the left. Once you do this, the platform and swinging thing will be in the right position for you to get to the piece.

I didn't get a chance to finish it yet, but I love it so far. Already hearted =) However, either I suck or the difficulty is really ramped up. I had the urge to rage quit a couple times, and actually did rage quit at one obstacle. I didn't rate it badly but I had just had enough frustration at that point... maybe it's my lack of platforming skills. I'll go back and finish it later, I'm sure. First it was the place with the series of jumps down an incline with a lightning platform. I realize there is an easier way to do it (just grab that sponge) but whether I did it the hard or easy way, there was always a good chance I'd somehow fall in between the lightning ramp and the floor and "squash" myself. The other part is shown above, actually, where the posted said "one part was here". Just getting onto the platform where the lightning rolls down at you is a chore. Half the time you fall into the level below with no way up (other than suicide) and the other times, the layers were so annoying and glitchy that I couldn't get my sackboy into that front layer. When I did, I got shocked pretty quickly so patience was wearing thin. Then I finally made it on top of that box, but with the tool inside of the box, I had no way to get at it. I tried a couple things but I just got too frustrated with the 20 or so deaths I had just getting into the front layer or having to suicide.

All of those things could be my fault, for all I know, but I just thought I'd let you know. Overall it was a really good experience so far, though. The mix of technology and organic scenery is the same metroid-y goodness from your other two levels. My favorite environments were probably the underwater lab sort of areas, where the elevators take you. I love the roman numeral story part too, for obvious reasons I'm not sure if I've seen all the powerups yet but the charge glove is a cool idea. I did find a couple of minor speech bubble glitches where they were very close together and it was hard to read... mainly the underwater "crossroads" and the story room, also the speech bubble where you get the charge gloves.

I'll give it another go later today or tomorrow and hopefully finish it all. I just didn't want my frustration with a couple obstacles to taint my view of the whole level hehe. Great job!

(if you get the chance I could *really* use the f4f, my Soul Foundry thread has gone down to page 3 and has been mostly ignored on this site, and I hate to self-bump hehe)

Thanks for playing, Tanarri. For the first part you mentioned, it should be pretty easy if you do grab the sponge... I've never been squished at the part but I will look into it and see if I can find a fix. For the fallen watchtower section, the electric things are in two different layers, so if you just stick to one and jump it shouldn't be too hard. To get into the box that the tool piece is in, you need to jump from the white box to the stone platform, then move to the front layer. From there you should be able to jump into the box. Anyway, I hope I helped and if you get stuck again just post here and I'll be happy to help.2010-04-04 20:18:00

I went back and finished the level and I loved it. I think this may have been your best yet. As NarF72 mentioned though, I do think the fallen watchtower area with the rolling electrical logs could use some tweaking. The way you have the layers arranged does indeed make it difficult to actually get onto the front two layers with the electric logs. Trying to just jump into the part with the rolling logs ends up putting you in the back layer with the hidden point bubbles. Also, I, too, was thrown off by the fact that the tool piece in this area is fully enclosed, but I guess that's what you were going for.2010-04-05 00:00:00

Very nice! I love the atmosphere you created with the storm and periodic log updates (reminds me a bit of the original Resident Evil, where most of the story was found in text spread around the mansion). Although I usually don't enjoy exploration levels because I hate wandering around feeling dumb, yours was great in that you had enough guidance so that I always felt relatively sure what I was doing and never felt lost (thank goodness for magic mouths!). In general, what I'm saying is that you took a very complicated idea for a level design and you managed to execute it so that it's still fun to play, which is a very good thing.

I unfortunately didn't finish because I don't have the skill.
http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy39/camden11/Mysterious%20Planet%20Project%20Fracture/APhoto_5.jpg
In this area, after you've used the decryption key to activate the lift, I cannot for the life of me climb up the "/" - shaped sponge and grab onto the rope. I keep falling off right at the top of the "/". It may just be that I'm horrible at climbing, so don't feel like you neccessarily have to change anything, but as long as that obstacle is there I don't think I can finish. (If you do modify it a bit, let me know and I'll come back and try again!)

If you're still doing F4F, please give my level a try (TRIAL of SEASONS - SUMMER) and give it a thumbs up or down. Thanks! LINK (http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy39/camden11/Mysterious%20Planet%20Project%20Fracture/APhoto_5.jpg)

Thanks for the feedback, Sickivionkey! I know some people find swinging like that difficult (I used to) but all it takes is a little practice to get better at it. I remember there being a sort of tutorial level for swinging like that but I can't seem to remember what it was... Well anyway, I'll give you feedback on your level next time I'm on LBP.2010-04-05 13:03:00

Amazing level series. The Mysterious Planet levels reminded me of the "Metroid" game series the way you find the tools to go to the next area. I managed to beat the 2 of the previous levels but the third...not yet cause I have no idea what I'm supposed to do next after I got the electric gloves [until I read the other reply threads]. However I seen huge improvements in the third installment. The first 2 needs polishing but the third is somehow nicely polished and you managed to hide the logical tools. I do agree with some members that the watchtower needs to be fixed because I had no idea how to get the ancient tool part in here. Still I had a great time playing your "Metroid" inspired levels. Make sure you fix the watchtower part okay? :>2010-04-05 18:43:00

Thanks for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed my levels! I always thought the watchtower section was pretty easy, but now that I think about it if I hadn't made it I probably wouldn't have figured it out. Thanks for letting me know and I'll change that section when I get a chance.2010-04-05 21:32:00

OK, the watchtower is now fixed. It is easier to get into without dying and the box the stone tool is in is now open. Sickivionkey and Ghik, I gave you some feedback on both of your levels. I thought they were both great!2010-04-06 01:21:00

I managed to beat this level [Including part 2 where you go against the boss]. The watchtower is nicely fixed and the swingy object platform at the far west of the level was quite clever. I think you should give us a hint on where one of the ancient tool [below the bridge] is and/or try to extend the sponge ceiling near that tool. Thanks for fixing the watchtower.2010-04-07 16:18:00

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll put a camera or something like that so you can see the area where the stone tool piece is found.

Edit: I just realized that this thread is in the Cool Levels section of the level showcase. Does anyone know how you get to this section because I'm kind of new to it.

If your thread receives 20 replies, the thread ends up being in the cool levels section. Looks like I'm the reason your level thread has been promoted to cool level section because the previous reply I sent to you was the 20th reply.

Hey Camden,

Wow... that's quite a level you have here! I haven't played your previous levels, but I really enjoyed this one. Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete it because I got stuck. But at least I can say I got one sticker key, the glove, and all three stone things with the tool. I ended up on the part where you hang from a black circle and you try to traverse your way through a maze like structure. At the end there is a 2 way switch behind a blue door. I was thinking it was yellow (I had been there before.. more on that below). Since I couldn't open it I took the 2nd black circle and started to go back. Somehow I died in the process and was sent back to where the 2 way switch is. The black circle didn't respawn, so I tried to go back exactly the way I came. I didn't make it very far before I died again lol So then I was back at the checkpoint again with no black things to take me where I needed to go. Unfortunately I had to quit.. and I really didn't want to because I had been playing it for about an hour or so. This should be an easy fix. Just make the black circle #2 respawn if the player dies.

Also, I mentioned above that I was able to get to the blue door with the switch and the check point (at the end of the maze structure). I actually got there before I obtained the tool to activate the red squares. Here's how I did it (spoiler for those of you who haven't played the level):

I kept the paintinator, and made my way to where you're supposed to grab the red square so a platform appears. Well, I didn't have that tool yet so I didn't know about the red square. I positioned myself in the front most layer and fired my paintinator a few times, then waited, then fired again... and did this repeatedly until I got the ball swinging enough that I could jump and grab on to it. This took a few tries, but I did it! Only to find out that a switch I need to hit at the end of the maze is blocked by a door lol Granted, I knew I cheated my way over there - but I thought you might want to know that it is possible if the player has enough patience. I'd recommend using a second platform rather than the swing. As long as it's far enough away people won't be able to reach it until they grab the red square.

I hate to ask for a walk through, but I'd love to know where that other sticker key was so I could continue my quest

Overall, great job! I'm a huge fan of the exploration/puzzle/big open world type levels.

Thanks for playing! The black circle is supposed to show up again when you die, but this is the second report I've gotten that it doesn't always work, so I'll try to fix it when I get a chance. If you do play the level again before I fix it, killing yourself again should make a new one show up. I'll also make sure to fix the part where you can advance without the matter projector. Thanks for letting me know about that because I never would have thought of that on my own.

SPOILERS:
The western ancient key (the one you need) is located behind the yellow door in the lab. The door is located near the eastern elevator.

Anyway, thanks for playing and I hope you like the rest of the level.
