TANKINATORShade_seeker
My Second ps3 level
Hi all

LEVEL: TANKINATOR.
PSN: Shade_seeker

The tank is fully functioning, with suspension, and two types of weapons to use. You start the game with having the option to have a a 'driving/firing' lesson, with some duck targets, and boxes to blow up, before starting the main game.

I've tried to keep story line to a minimum, but basically, the plot line is this: Tank wont start at first, take out security systems, door opens, solve a few puzzles, a bit of platforming. Tank now is up and running, shoot things, more platforming, GIANT WALKER boss to kill, and end with a little bit of story...simples!

Target practice:

Some platforming.

One of the mechs.

BLAST that mech!

A little teaser for the boss:

The tank, walker, and boss are all given away as prizes, though they are difficult to get. The BOSS walker will be unlocked if you ace the game, the mech walker and tank require two people.

Hi. thanks for the feedback on my level and here's my returned F4F:

First off let me say it looked great and I liked the idea of the level with having to perform other tasks before driving the tank. That made a nice change and the lift with the plasma coming down every so often was cleverly done.

However the part I thought I'd enjoy most ( driving the tank ) was actually the least enjoyable. The bouncing around was particularly annoying. There are several great tank makers on this site who can advise you on how to get around that. I'm sure they'll let you know in due course.

I also found the control of the weapons very awkward and I couldn't move the guns up and down at all after a while. It took me ages to get the barrel low enough to shoot that dome with the switch inside and then when I got to the barrier the tank couldn't pass and had to shoot the wall It wouldn't go low enough at all. I tried for almost half an hour to do it but just had to give up there. Some of the weapons looked like they were hitting the wall but it didn't disappear. I ended up jumping on the cannon barrel to try and get it low enough but it still wasn't enough. By the ned i was tearing my hair out in frustration.

Talking of which I was doing that in the cave section too. It was really difficult to see in there and getting out of the top was almost impossible. I died too many times to count. I think I did that in the wrong order though because I did that before getting the tank over the bridge. The reason for that being that when I couldn't shoot the dome with the tank I assumed I had to go on foot to do something ahead first. Of course then when I eventualy got out of the top of the cave the enemythere almost killed me as I had to run in front of it to get to the checkpoint and then backtrack to the tank.

I found a lot of the speech bubbles kept disappearing too before I could read them. Some of that was due to the tank bouncing and keep moving me out of the radius I presume.

Sorry if I sound too negative because I really wanted to give good feedback as I like the look of everything and loved some of the ideas you had in there. It's just that overall I just found it very awkward to use in it's present state and ended up getting annoyed with it. If you can get the tank experts to help you with the control and balance with it then you could have a really good level there. It certainly has the potential to be one of the best tank levels in LBP. It just needs the actual tank sorting out.

Hi mistervista, thanks for playing, and sorry you had troubles.
You mentioned the trouble you had shooting the 'dome' explosives store. I DO know what you mean, the idea with the tank is you have to manuver the tank into a position so that the shells will hit. I am aware that if you drive right up close, the cannon wont tilt enough, but I assumed that people would just move the tank back a little so that the ark of the cannon would reach, no?
Same goes for the explosive wall to the left of the cave system, you have to position the tank (incidently, you could instead use the paintball gun at the rear of the tank on the explosive wall, if you look closely on the wall there is a small red button that will trigger the explosives (I did this JUST IN CASE the tank broke for what ever reason)
As for finding the cave system too difficult, I know its not a case of getting it right first time, but i knida hoped with the amount of save points you'd progress a little each time you died if you had trouble. (which part did you find hard, I assume its the eight rotating wheels with fire on one half? I am VERY bad at platforming, and timed jumps, so I find some games VERY frustrating, so I can sympathise with you here. I am aware that the creator of the game always finds their games easier (like the gun turret at the beginging, if you stand far right, you can just stand and shoot with out dying, but most would proably find it harder) I really appreciate your coments, and would ask if others could state if they found parts too hard, if I get another mentioning the same thing I will try and make the cave part easier.

Now for the tank issue: I so wanted to make a tank with fully working suspension, and a friend and I spent over 20 hours trying tens of combinations of suspension and tracks, they ALL fell apart and broke on the slightest bit of rough ground. When we finally got a 'tough' working model we noticed the 'bounce' and have no idea how to fix it. I'm sure it is something to do with the spring set up, but every time I tried ajusting the settings, the blasted thing flew apart, so accepting defeat we left it as it was. ( I was tempted to write the 'bounce' into the game, and have the tank in loud and lairy colours with floating musical notes from an emmiter floating up, and have it as some sort of 'party tank', but decided I wanted to make a serious game this time around.
I have very little thermo left, but am very willing to make changes, and if someone could help me with the tank, I'd very much appreciate it.

Sooy again that you found 'parts' so frusrating.

Thanks Whiskasdacat for playing and commenting, did you have any issues you'd like to comment on?

Hey shade seeker, I tried your level this morning. First let me say that I'm not a fan of tank levels. In your level I actually had a pretty good time though. It's different than the run of the mill tank course. I really like that you added some platforming to it. I think it's a very nice looking level that's very well done. The whole tank rocking thing actually had me cracking up though. I can't help but find it amusing. I also know this game can be a total pain in the a** sometimes. I think if you find a solution for the tank, you'll have a nice level there. Good work! 2010-04-04 13:51:00

Hey I really liked your tank, though some of the wheels broke through the level. I had just hoped that you had to spend a lot time on the Tank. But unfortunately that wasn't it. I liked your platforming puzzle elements, but I would have liked a longer level, where you have to spend more time on the Tank, and shooting missiles. I rated it 4 stars, and I think more levels would be great.2010-04-05 10:50:00

You never made the creature brains activate if you shoot the tripod enemies with a rocket! Also, the cannons on the tank can break easily. I'd maybe ask for help with the tank like Mistervista said

Good level though, glad you showed me it.

First off, I've made quite a few changes. The tank is LARGER, so the rocking is far less severe, and I changed the angle of the cannon so it is easier to fire at low stuff. There are jet packs on the front and back to make it easier to board the tank. The button on the floor of the cockpit for the fireing of the paint ball rockets is now easier to use (just stand on it and it fires. There is a paintball gun on the front of the tank.
I changed the speed of the half fire/half rock rollers in the cave, so it is alot easier.
I swapped the mech tripod walker at the caves to a spaceship, (moving target for the paint ball rockets)
I added an extra speech bubble at the end, filling the story out a little more.

LOl, at the tank cracking up, it ISN'T supposed to be funny lol, thanks for playing and your comment.

Hi ghik, yeah, I know what you mean about wanting to spend more time on the tank, I plan to make a survival challenge next using the tank and the boss walker, with the intention of less platforming and more gratuitous explosions and violence!

Hey Paddy, hows things? Thanks for playing. Activating the brains? I have no idea how to do that??? But....I like the fact of all the flying debri, and didn't want them to just dissolve, did you have any troubles with them?

I feel for you dude this game can be very unforgiving at times... OK, the badge is beautiful and I really enjoyed the platforming sections of your level... albeit hoping on flaming circles in pitch blackness did make me wish this fire would actually throw off some light! I mentioned I am not a vehicle guy, so to me the tank came as advertised... It looked great fired great no problems... I kicked butt. Unfortunately in my bloodlust as mechs were blowing up a speech bubble got by me and before I knew what happened my world had turned upside down...

The base areas were cool, I'd make the pistons invisible but got the idea you like them, so to each his own. The lift was unique, I liked. Liked the background stuff...good puzzles, I think your unique, and look forward to your next thing.

The debris is REALLY frustrating, it broke the cannon on the tank.

To activate brains when you shoot robot:

Put magnetic key on the missile the tank shoots

put magnetic key switch set to 1-shot on the enemy(set the radius so when the missile touches it, it activates it), and attach the wires to all the brains on the creatures

I think when stuff is blown up it breaks the association with the rest of it(when it gets broken up by bomb) so it might not work. I have another idea, maybe show you in create one time?

Man was this level hard and long for me! Yet fun! And that is most important. The tank was huge and scary looking! Awesome! It was a little hard to control the tank, with running back and forth to each button, but thats how it was built, so I gotta live with it. I LOVE those walking mechs! They are funny as heck to watch walk! I'll probally try your other mech levels soon. Good job!:star::star::star::star:2010-05-03 18:46:00
