The Monsterous Fort [public beta]

The Monsterous Fortspok22
After playing through Velcojonze's Fort Sugar levels, i was inspired to make a fort type level myself. I tried to add a little bit of humor in this level so if you find it kind of funny, i meant it to be funny lol. But anyways, here it is..
The level is not up yet but just thought i would make a thread since i am on the computer and it is much easier to do it here than on my ipod. I will put it up asap but i dont know when i can get it up since it is raining and the rain kills my wifi. Ill will update when i finally get it up.

well my internet is fine again but after tweaking my level all last night I've decided that I don't think that it is fully done yet. I'm going to do a quick beta with a couple of creators and then I'll get it up asap.

UpdAte 4/3
Well I posted my level up today and forgot to take it down till three hours later. If any of u guys got to play it tho I wuld appreciate any thots. Also just for the record the level posted up today is nowhere near what my final vision is.

Update 4/3
actually Ive changed my mind about the whole private beta thing.when I went online to delete I saw that many people had already played the level. I'm going to do a public then private beta afterwards. This worked out great for me last time so hopefully it will be just as successful this time again. Anyways I'll post rite now and plz let me no any thots u guys have on my level. Also keep in mind that this is not the final version.

You probably wanted someone to reply here right?
Next time you post up a level, pm me, ok?
I'll tell you this level was awesome, and still in beta form meaning it'll be even better later.
I liked your cartoon monsters. It was a nice touch to the level.
I liked your platforming and I can't wait to see your final publish.

I'll give you your feedback when it's up.
Otherwise, have a great day!

Spok, I just played this and wow!! I was impressed, it was old school platforming at it's best. Your level designs are getting so good and all of your monsters looked awesome. The whole level was very well polished to be a beta. The piece where the gas chases you down the small platforms at the end had on the edge of my seat.

I had a blast playing this!!

If there is any criticism is that your sound effects, while very appropriate for the level, seemed at times overwhelming, but I think it's because there was no music, which I am sure you will add in the final build.

Very awesome level Bro!

Five stars and a heart for your beta.

I will get to this as soon as possible, I'm sorry I didn't reply right away, but usually I'm busy giving Feedback to others who I've promised to or I'm busy creating.
I will tell you on what you should improve on once I go the time. Sorry about that.

Hey spok-

Again, sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this! Busy weekend... Anyway! Pretty cool beta you have set up here. VJ is right, it definitely has that old school platformer vibe. So, because this is a beta and not a complete level I'll do my feedback the same way as before - just line by line.

Very clean and angular - I like your choices of materials. I can definitely see the Fort Sugar inspiration - definitely not a bad thing.
Don't forget to add music! I'm sure that's on your list already, but I had to point it out.
Don't forget to add stickers either, but since I know you know what you're doing in that category I don't need to say anything else.
The first switch you come to on the wall is a little bit too high up. It's reachable though, but only just. If that was intentional, it's fine.
There's a little empty space to the left with a custom camera zone - I assume this is for prize bubbles or other hidden goodie that hasn't been added yet.
The chomping spikes are awesome! Nice touch. The proximity switch you have to turn it on/off has a fairly small trigger radius. It shuts off while you're still onscreen, and while that doesn't hurt gameplay it looks a little weird.
So, the squealing/snarling pistons. They're, uh, different. I appreciate the quirkiness but to be honest the squealing noise is pretty annoying and pretty strange. Perhaps a more subtle noise? This may just be me and/or a personal taste kind of thing though.
The 3-column puzzles are very cool. I had a lot of problems with the second one of these though. The winch that retracts the 2-way switch I think is set to on/off with a proximity switch, because sometimes you can pull the switch and sometimes you can't. When you do pull the switch the columns don't always stay up for the same amount of time, making the jump to that top platform very difficult. The main problem I had was getting stuck between the far left and the middle pistons. I got wedged in there and had to suicide about 10 times before finally making the jump. If nothing else, you definitely need to close that gap.
The "boss" scene is pretty cool! Again, pretty quirky and odd like the rest of the level, but I like it. The fight seemed to be pretty quick, but that's fine.
Nice transition down to the scoreboard! Very well implemented. Ok, on playthrough #2 I managed to get hung up on a ledge on the left wall, but continuing back down to the scoreboard was easy enough.

Good stuff so far! I'm looking forward to the finished version. I gave the beta 4 stars and a heart. Let me know when you publish an update and/or new version and I'll take another look.

EDIT: Oh, and one other thing I forgot to mention. It's "monstrous" not "monsterous".... unless of course that was intentional wordplay to indicate not that the fort was large but rather that it was monster-like and/or full of monsters.
