Dragon Ball - First Bookghik16
http://i39.tinypic.com/14uvmzp.jpgThis time you get to play as Son-Goku, while he meets Bulma, Oolong and Master Roshi for the first time. The story has just begun. Welcome to Dragon Ball.
It's based on the Dragon Ball Manga Series, and as in level title, it's based on the first book. Up to now, it's the best level I've ever made. I've worked more on the visuals this time(Thanks to Shawneboi for helping with this and giving tips)

For all Dragon Ball fans, this is a Must-Play ? Most of the levels who?s allready about DB are bad. In this level, I've focused on fun gameplay instead of overfocusing on the character apperances. I've also followed the story-line of the book as close as I could, also filling it with the fun jokes, which is in the books.

I really hope people will try it, and take time to post comments. I would like some feedback for future levels. I?m doing F4F, so I would try your level, if you?re trying mine.

i'm going to be straight and say it: i'm not a dragon ball fan. i know nothing about it, except that it has inspired a great level (yes, yours ). i had a fun time playing it and you told the story pretty well. the gameplay was good and i love your use of the floral sponge as it makes great grass. although i know nothing about dragon ball, i still liked it. good job! 2010-04-03 20:23:00

Hi Ghik, Just played your game.
Real nice level mate. Liked the cute characters, and the clourful scenery. The turtle puzzle with the switches made me stop and think, yet it was all easy to follow, and a nice story line (no idea what dragon ball is all about, so may have made more sence if I had seen it. Some nice use of emiters, and LOL, LOL at the boss at the end 'I only want all the girls in the Village' is he some kind of dragon bal pimp?
One point, the scene when the turtle meets his master, there are two magic mouth speeches starred out!
Great game!
Not quite a 5 stars, but more than worth four for the effort and the laughs at the end boss!

If you would like to F4F, TANKINATOR has just been published.

I'm not a huge dragon ball Z fan either, however this level was quite enjoyable. The only problems I had with it were the cutscene text took a while to change and it was too short. The characters I liked aswell, especially the turtle 2010-04-04 01:53:00

Yes, It's a good level, really funny. I used to love Dragon ball many years back and all the Scenes are from it(but not without the LBP-style twists).
Some things I thought were out of place... :Your name is still the same logo you made for the blues festival level... I think you can make a lot better one this time. The 5*+heart thingy at the end of the level is just really... Well, I despise those things. They make you think: What, the level was bad, so you desperately advertise, or what?

I didn't think it wasn't bad at all and those kind of cheap tricks should be left to the Mario Karters on the Cool pages. I gave it a 4.
I don't have a F4F level to show atm, so If you like, you can play UFO invasion v 1.1... It's the only half-decent level I have I think you haven't plaid.

Yes, not everybody is Dragon Ball fans. I was a big fan though, and I just thought the first book was great to make a LBP level about. I'm glad you like the floras grass. It's also one of my favourite materials.

Glad you liked it. Tried to tell the story, so most people could understand it. But if I should have told the story totally, there would have been too much talk, and it would have made the level boring.

I've also experienced the two speech bubbles saying just stars. I don't know why. When I play it together with other people, it doesn't happen for them. It doesn't happen for me, when I play it on my moon. I've tried to change the text a bit and set it in another magic mouth, but it still happens online. Don't know how to fix this, because I'm bound to write what they say in the book.

Thanks for playing. I made the cutscene text to take long time, so everybody had time to read it.

Hi. I remember you don't like these things with 5 stars and a heart. I'll consider not having them in my next level. Glad you thought it was funny, I tried to make it a bit funny. I've tried your turntable wheel. It's great. I've played it several times, but haven't got the high-score yet.

I think I'm going to make a new level. It was bad materials I used for that logo.

Hi ghik, played your level yesterday.
I'm a big manga-fan, but haven't read much Dragonball. I only know the basis, but despite that it was easy enough to follow and recognise the story. It had a very relaxing, enjoyable feel to it. Adventurous shonen-manga style. Battle the bosses, catch some fish, wander around the sunfilled landscape, retrieve the artifacts.

Really liked the design of the turtle.

Didn't like the design of the trees so much, a bit to blocky/angular to my taste. Did like the palm trees on the beach though, those looked better.

On to part two! (Or are you gonna do some Naruto or Bleach next?)

Positives:
I think the terrain editing was much more impressive than your Doom of Dragons level. It really adds to the gameplay experience when the terrain features look so much more appealing. I loved your transitions from one type of geography to another (going from the land to the beach, for instance) I think your adaptation of the story was also extremely well done. I also loved your use of the character icon on your checkpoints. Once again, I really like your creatures. They are simply but effective.

Suggestions:
The Oolong boss battle dialog (after the fight) move by too fast. I missed one of the dialogs. While I thought your terrain editing was improved over some of your older levels, I think there is room for improvement still. I think if you trees and other parts of your terrain were a little more organic, your level would be much improved aesthetically. It's obvious this level was about telling the Dragon Ball story and you did a nice job in that, but I think you could have still added some platforming elements to make the level more satisfying to a larger audience.

Story: 4/5
Characters: 4/5
Terrain/Graphics: 3/5
Gameplay: 3/5

Overall I gave it 4 stars because I think you did a nice job in implementing what you intended on.

Hi. Cool that you're manga fan. I'm not the biggest fan of manga in general any longer. Years ago I was very fascinated of One Piece and Conan too, but not any longer. I thought it was too expensive to buy all the book. (I have all the DB books though)

I'm thinking of making a part two. I don't know yet, wether it will be focused on Book 6-7 or if it would be an open-ended Dragon Ball search level. I could make that.

I'm glad you liked the terrain more than Doom of Dragons, because I spend a lot more time on it. I think trees is a hard thing to make, when they are small. I don't think my next level will contain as many trees as in this level.

I think you missed the part where he transforms, and he only says TRANSFORM. So it was not the longest part you lost.

Just played your level and it was pretty good. I know nothing about dragon ball so I can't really comment on the story or anything like that, but I thought it had good visuals and some pretty some cool bosses. I also really liked your hidden point bubbles. A few small mistakes I noticed were some grammatical errors on mouths near the beginning, and the visible pistons on your enemies. I also thought the level was a little on the short side. Over all it was a good level and I gave it :star::star::star::star:2010-04-05 23:07:00

Just played your level and enjoyed it. I thought you did a good job with all the dragon ball characters. It was a bit of a trip down memory lane seeing all the different scenes. I liked how you got the point bubbles to look kind of like dragon balls, thought it was a nice touch. Thought how you did a good job on the first cutscene explaining the dragon.

My suggestions are that it was a little bit short and not enough gameplay. I felt like I was walking a lot with nothing happening. I also had an issue with a lot of the speech bubbles, I think I missed atleast half of them. I also thought the cloud part moved kind of slow, maybe you could speed that up a bit as I was starting to get bored by the time it reached the next area.

Overall, it was a good level. Could you try my World 1-4 (link in sig) and tell me what you think?

Thanks for feedback Camden1. English isn't my first language, so the grammatical errors are hard to deal with. I'll try though, to spend more time on the Speech Bubbles. It's a very short compared to your level. : ) But I like the length, and I was also about to run out of space to the right.

It was my porpouse to make the score bubbles look like Dragon Ball. I'm glad you noticed this detail. I could slow down the time for the dialouge between Master Roshi, and the Turtle. But I think if I speed up the Cloud part, it could break, and that wouldn't be great.

Okay. I hope you'll find it as good the pictures are. : ) I've done an effort on making this not to be like the other stupid DBZ levels.

I'm very happy, that it's rounded the 500 plays. And it's close to getting 50 hearts.

Hey ghik16, I'm here to return the favor . I absolutely love dragonball and I can't wait to play this level. Nice simple gameplay. I like the light hearted feeling of this level. I like the score bubbles in the flowers. I don't know why I do.. it's just nice lol. Lmao @ Master Roshi. Overall, I had a good time. Nothing frustrating 2010-04-08 23:01:00

Hey ghik, just tried out your DB level. It was a great tribute, and stayed very true to the source material. I used to love dragon ball lol so I really had fun running through your level. My 2nd level was a DBZ tribute, but it hasn't aged very well lol, to say the least. Very nostalgic, thanks!2010-04-11 03:39:00

Hey I gave it a shot and thought it was really nice. It was quite relaxing and easy. But that's where my first criticism comes in, I thought the bosses were far too easy! I guess it's a personal preference though. I don't know much about DBZ so I can't say I related to the story. I didn't really get the orbs, first mention they seem like these mythical things that grant any wish when you have them all which is a handful. But then you appear to have one and the village gives you one, kinda easy way to world domination isn't it? lol The turtle was funny and reminded me of the turtle from Never Ending Story.. yeah.. I know.. the movie turtle is 50 times bigger.. BUT! Just has that look you know? haha I know this is probably really hard to pull off well but I wanted to control the cloud myself! Maybe for future sequels figuring that out could open up more game play options, plus it'd probably be a lot of fun! Over all it was a fun level and I really enjoyed playing it!2010-04-15 19:51:00

Thanks for feedback.

I haven't seen the movie, you're talking about, but it sounds cool. With a big Turtle. That's nice. I would recommend you to read the Manga's, because they're great. There are also several people trying to get world Domination that way, but it didn't happen. Instead Oolong(the boss) wished himself some Girl Pants. lol. I'm you liked it. About the cloud. I know that if you had got to control the cloud, it could have been a lot funner. But I'm still in a learning phase. And that would be a bit too hard logic to do right now. I'll consider it though.. (I also had when I made the level, but I ended up choosing this way)

Yay, DB. I made a quick goku costume to play this level in.
As usual I'll note stuff as I play then summarise.

- Cool dragon ball at the start. First thing I did was try to grab it, as I thought you would need to collect em all. Turned out I needed to do that later, haha.
- Flowers looked nice on that angle.
- Could hide that piston, or have the wall go into the ground instead?
- Definitely need a "smash" sound effect for that boulder during the turtle.
- The round boulder came out of the whole in front while I was dragging the turtle, but didn't break anything. Maybe add some weight to it?
- Nimbus ride was pretty cool.
- When the girls "give" you a dragon ball it would be nice to see it.
- The trunks on the trees looked a bit wide when compared to the leaves.

Didn't have any other problems gameplay wise so yay! Boss was funny too haha. Good ol Oolong.
I'm not familiar with the start of DB, but still had fun.
4 stars, nicely made, just could do with a few small touchups.

Hey thanks for playing. Hey I'm glad you like the Nimbus ride and the level at all. Which piston do you mean? The one in the end, after beating Oolong? Maybe I should add weight on the boulder.

NB: I'm posting feedback on your level as soon as possible.

It wasn't so bad as I thaught.
Bad:
-Not ugly but neither very beautfiul
-Not cool if you are not a big dragonball fan
Good:
-Creative boss
-Story well told but still little uninteresting

Critic: Great experiment to DB fans but little boring to them who aren't

Hey Ghik!

I knew nothing about Dragon Ball but I learnt a little from your level!

The story was one of the best parts of the level!

I liked how you used that secret yellow and green material! I haven't seen it being used much!

The cut-scene to the dragon balls was well made and really helped to tell the story!

I think you could've added a bit more detail to the trees though.

Thanks for the feedback on my level!

Sigh..
The dog ate all my notes.

Personally I do not think he dbz images fit the level,
for starters I have never seen framed paintings on a rock wall near a lake and 2nd of all.. the images do not make this dbz level and feel rather amateuristic, one or two small images in i.e. goku's house would have made more sense.

The fish breaks from time to time, forced me to restart 2 times.
Personally I find it lacking in originality if a person uses an existing story or game to create an lbp level based off of that.
DBZ is all about fighting, and making a lbp level about dbz.. kinda makes it focuss on the boring talking part in DBZ as thee is no awesome fighting ability for my sackboy.

that said, you are using various layers, decent color combinations and some variation in the level as well.

Looking at the turtle and all I think you would be able to create a more original non-dbz story and if you keep expending your knowledge in the editor I am sure you can create some awesome levels in the future!

It's great to get a more critical point of view. But I think that we have a completely opposite side of view on level making.

One of the things, that made me buy the game back in December was, that there were so many different levels based on things and other games. I tried it several times with friends. And what we tried was levels made of computer games. An example is, I'm a huge fan of gex, and since Crystal Dinamics stopped making Gex games, I've been really sad. But they won't make a new game.

That's where LittleBigPlanet comes in. LBP gives us fans an opportunity to show our affection to games which doesn't exist anymore. When there's no new Gex game, then you can play an Gex-based level in LBP. That's a marvelous opportunity to have.

Another thing is very important for my level: This is NOT a DBZ level. This is based on the first book of the real series made by original author Akira Toriyama. This isn't based on the rather stupid TV show. The first books in the series wasn't all about fighting. It was quite the opposite. Many people misunderstands my message. I find the first books more interesting, than the later books (which also are made into a TV Show)

I'm sorry if you might not understand everything of what I wrote, but I hope you understand just a small bit.. My english isn't the best, even though I'm a European.
