New youtube layout

Archive: 24 posts

I just wanted to get everyones impressions of the new youtube layout.

Personally I don't like it, the information is too difficult too find because its all hidden behind action buttons. Also the new rating system only allows yes I like it or no I don't like it.
Now i'm not saying they should go back to the old one but, it wasn't broken so why did they go ahead and fix it.

It's more minimalistic, so I like it.

All the information I'm interested is visible (description and publishing date). Like - Don't like is fine in my book too, because a star rating is rather subjective anyway.

I didn't like it at first but it's grown on me now. I like how the description is now below the video on the channel page AND on the video page.

On a side note, i think the "like - don't like" system would work great on LBP!

Why is everyone saying it's a new layout? It's been like that for AGES, for me it has anyway. Maybe I'm special and youtube decided I would get to see it first .2010-04-02 17:41:00

Yeh, the Sackinima account has had it for a few weeks now. I didn't like it at all at first but I'm getting used to it now.2010-04-02 17:58:00

I don't like it, I liked the description being at the right with the account's avatar.
Some good things though is that (I think) you can look through all the videos of the user without having to open a new page.
The comments were a bit messy when I looked on a video once or twice but I think it might have fixed the problem of comments appearing repeatedly in the old layout.
It's grown on me a bit but I still prefer the old layout.

(Btw, this has just appeared on my Youtube today).

I don't think it's bad, tbh I find it has a much cleaner look to it, making it easier to browse.2010-04-03 00:45:00

A perfect example of what my sig means

At the moment I don't like much but I'm keeping an open mind, it could come good.

Google have been beta testing it with certain users for a couple of months now. thats why you would of had it early.

And they didn't think to tell me? Silly people.

Hang on your saying if I signed out, I could have seen the old look? Darn.

Yeah I personally hate it, was really used to the original layout but now it feels like another video sharing site............... 2010-04-05 19:41:00

I seriously don't like it. Back in the ol' days of youtube, you could just look at the very decent rating system with the scale of 5 stars. No there's just the "Most liked" thingy and this means that everything that doesn't have the "Most liked" stamp on it, is on the scale of Lousy to Not perfect. And this is the biggest thing I don't like.2010-04-05 22:43:00

The only real thing I like is the Like/Dislike ratings. This way your ratings for videos don't plummet because of trolls/haters rating it 1 star2010-04-05 23:10:00

I don't know how it is for everyone else, but I can't see the time for comments anymore unless I hover my mouse over one, which is ridiculously impractical. Why is it such an inconvenience to simply be able to tell which comments were made recently and which comments were made years ago? Was it really that necessary to "hide" the time stamp on comments? 2010-04-05 23:30:00

you could also favorite and like/dislike your own videos now too xP, good for me since on my channel i only have favorites, and would like to throw in one of my vids in there.

I've been on youtube just recently and noticed there's no 'Home' button. I find that really annoying as I like to choose specific videos and I like it how I can see all my latest subscription updates there.2010-04-06 10:10:00
