Piston problem.

Archive: 6 posts

Hi, i'm looking for the easiest way to do this.

Every once and a while (every 7 seconds or so) I want to activate a piston that goes up, then down again to it's original position. With no pause at the peak.

Anyone know a solution?
Thanks

Use an emitter. Emit a mag key next to a mag switch set to Directional and Inverted and attached to your piston. Set the emitter as such:

Frequency= 7.0 + (Half the Duration of Piston) - So if the full timing of the piston is 4.0, this would be 9.0
Lifetime= 7.0
Max Emitted= Infinite
Max Emitted at Once= 1

I think this will do it, though cyclical timing on the pistons can get wonky, so it may not stay in sync.

You could also do it this way

http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/theamilien_photo/untitled.jpg

The red thing on the wheel is a motor bolt.
The mag switches on the wheel are set to directional.

The thing in the green rectangle (the toggle) you can get from the logic pack (cant remember its name).

All you have to do is adjust the motor bolts speed till you get the desired efffect.

EDIT:
You should probably use Vortex's solution, its much more simple and less time consuming. (probablly more thermo effecient too)

OK - I just ran a test and modified my post above with a couple corrections. But it works perfectly.2010-04-02 14:33:00

Ah. Works great.
Elegance in it's sheer simplicity.

I had something similar to theamilien's setup, but it was a female dog modifing the jump interval without changing the time @ peak.
Thanks for your trouble both of you.

No problem - glad to help.

It should be noted that my solution can be inverted... Change the mag switch to NOT inverted and the lifetime of the key to that half-piston timing (so in the example above, 2.0) and it will work exactly the same. The Frequency setting would remain unchanged.
