That's an absurd price, not to mention I need an eyetoy too, right? I'm not really into paying loads of cash just so I can play Wii Sports knockoffs...

I already have a Wii for my gaming inanities.

I believe it comes with Camera included.

And why do people keep saying its a copy in a negative way?
What, just because one company has it no one else has the right to enjoy such technology?
Come on people stop complaining that multiple consoles have the same thing and start thanking that multiple consoles do have the same things...

Hmmm, why buy just the controllers though, don't you at least need one game to play with it? Or does it come with a game?2010-04-02 12:32:00

shhabazz- in USD that's about 59 bucks i believe.

and i say it's a copy in a bad way because i know it will be a long time til we see any good uses of it. expect a lot of HD wii sports/wii fit/wii music. the only thing i might want it for is LBP but I don't think it's worth the price of a full game to me...

The reason why Microsoft and Sony are joining the motion gaming party is because they are simply companies that are trying to woo the people that like the Wii into their systems and to try their idea of motion controlled gaming. Their keeping up with the Wii's Wiimote. It's simple as that.

Yes, the Move comes with the Playstation Eye. I also heard it comes with one game, and the whole package costs under $100 U.S.

Ok everyone I found a conversion site and have converted 59.99 can into the following:

39.14 British pounds
58.34 US dollars
43.54 Euros

That is very expensive...

(If it wrong don't blame me, blame expedia.co.uk)

For the record, the quoted price is only 5$ CAN more than a DS3, and the same price as buying a Wii remote + nunchuck. It's pretty much just as expensive as the other controllers (which I find expensive myself), although the Wii controller becomes much more expensive if you factor in the Motion Plus.2010-04-02 15:26:00

Those conversions maybe correct, but we, in the UK will probably have to pay more.

The 120GB PS3 in the US is $299. Converting that to pounds is a few quid under ?200, but obviously, in the UK you have to pay roughly ?50 more!

I wish Sony would charge the same in all territories...

I guess if it does include the camera its a little more reasonable. I'm not saying Sony has no right to cash in on the insanity of the casual market. It's just that everyone treats this like it's a revolution in gaming when it's really, really not. Not to mention the device itself looks totally ridiculous. The wii remote at least looks nice.

I hope I am proved wrong though. I do.

Back on topic: I really doubt I'll buy this. If I want to play with something like this, I'll play the Wii.

This is my major concern too. It's clear that Sony's trying to put a dent in Nintendo's current near-monopoly on the casual console gaming demographic. That's already an absurd thing to attempt in such a fashion, because you're asking the neighbor's mom to buy a PS3 (hope she has an HDTV), an eyetoy, plus the motion controllers themselves, and then hook it all up. Granted, it's not actually more work than setting up a Wii with its sensor bar, but except for the certainty of an "all-in-one" console package, it's asking a bit much of people to buy so much excess stuff.

So already, targeting Nintendo's market may fail anyway.

But doing that also hurts us, it hurts the core PS3 gamers. If Sony's concentrating its motion control efforts on casual games, we ARE just going to see wii sports knock-offs. I've seen these controllers in action, they're clearly way burlier pieces of tech than the wiimote setup, even with motionplus (aand, pause it... aaand, set it down for six seconds... aaand unpause it.)

I'd LOVE to see what kinds of truly forward-thinking games we can see with this. Remember when the first dualshock first came out? It was essentially a hybrid knock-off of a SNES controller and an N64 controller. BUT, even so, it opened up all sorts of possibilities for gaming. We had cool stuff like Ape Escape, and of course the highly-improved FPS controls over previous iterations (Turok on the N64 had the closest thing to it). I'm already imagining what kind of stuff could be done. I imagine a seriously immersive action-RPG, something like Elder Scrolls or Fallout or Deus Ex, but with full motion controls. You can interact with every object in the game using 1:1 motion, which will open the doors for all sorts of interactions. Realistic pick-pocketing, and just imagine stuff you can do with weapon-building in fallout or alchemy in something like Elder Scrolls. You can go into your house or lab, and unloading your inventory on the table - rather than be a menu, it all goes into a bin or box of some sort, and you can sort through it with motion to find what you want and physically mix them together according to a recipe. Just imagine a new iteration of this type of game where EVERYTHING can be interacted with in 1:1 motion. Remember the first time you played Deus Ex? I for one was amazed at all the things you could do and interact with. You could turn on the faucets! Why? I don't know! But you could do it! It was novel and made the world seem more real, and now that's almost a standard in these sorts of games.

But really well-done motion control opens the doors to this type of immersion in a big way. I would love to see a major push toward this type of thing. Obviously Heavy Rain was MADE for motion controls, and Quantic Dream has already confirmed they're going to patch it for the PS move.

Also imagine games like Civilization, being able to move your units across a board and explore the map. It might actually prove to feel even better than a mouse.

I don't know if we're really going to see any of this stuff though. They're clearly aiming for Nintendo's market, and a lot of developers may not feel as excited about it as I am, preferring to stick to their old dualshocks, and if they HAVE to incorporate move options, you better believe they're not going to put much time into it.

What it needs for this to happen is major, genuine support from big developers for AAA titles. Considering it's an EXTRA peripheral, I don't know if we're going to see this happen anytime in the short term. Sony will need 2 things:
- A major AAA killer app (or 2), big budget, something like what I outlined above. Obviously there's nothing like this yet. It's going to be a while, at least a year.
- Sony will have to start bundling ALL NEW PS3s with full Move peripherals.

These 2 things will ensure that enough people have Move that it won't be such a risk for a developer to make a Move-only game. I think it's only going to be at this time, easily at least a year or two down the road, that we can expect to see something really substantial come out of this.

Unless they **** it all up.

im only buying the controllers because for several reasons.
1st would be that i never experienced the wii and I would like to try something for the ps3 that would be more interactive then 6 axis games.

2nd when ps2 came out with the eye toy i bought it and enjoyed it.

3rd im not as active as I used to be. Because I had a black belt and my old mixed marshal arts class closed down when i was 16.

and 4th LBP

Well this isn't just going to be the casual market, sony are trying to get everyone involved even hardcore gamers. Thats why SOCOM 4 is going to have a move option. however, what person is going to play a game like SOCOM by waggling a lollipop around, when they could use the brilliant tried and tested duelshock3.2010-04-03 08:12:00
