Giving up solo projects. Anyone else feel the same?

Archive: 14 posts

Sorry if this is wrong section btw

I thought I would make a topic about this because I'm giving up solo projects. This doesn't mean I'm giving up on joint projects, as I have something planned to make with another creator in a couple of months. Tbh, I have a SEVERE lack of motivation, I think I have the artists curse of thinking everything I make is awful(not that I'm an artist, but I plan to be). I'm also not too good with scenery D:

Also, I'm not big-headed or anything, so sorry if it sounded that way D: And I know no-one really cares, but I thought it might be worth posting to get peoples views on this subject?

Sooo, I was wondering, any of you people felt the same? Any motivational tips or suspense filled tales? I'd appreciate if people could post their experiences on this kind of thing.

If you're having a severe lack of motivation, try setting a deadline for yourself.

Or maybe enter a few competitions?... The LBW4 theme has just been announced!

I'm in the middle of creating a PSP level, and I don't normally enter competitions. Cool advice though, but I think deadlines make me take more time lol

Since OC came out I never create alone. Even if the other person is just talking to me or doing laps around my level in a giant floaty fish I can't seem to create alone. Must the same as when someone listens to music or something while making a level. My most recent level (Racing at the Barbeque) was originally just my own little creation of ants to race, then I published it as a "bottom-of-the-level-no-custom-background-except-the-beginning-and-end" level until I got help from Luos_Desruc. I had no motivation since I'd made Little Big Borderlands (1). I would just sit in create mode and make things I intended to use in levels I would never make or make a beginning to a level from some really cool object I made and never complete it.

Anyways, I must say, creating alone STINKS!

Oh I love creating alone sometimes, but with someone else there to chat with and often create just plain oddness in a corner somewhere it's much more fun! Maybe it's just me but I really dislike mics. Well in the wrong hands I do. Getting asked 1000 questions and often having to strain just to understand the other persons accent can get incredibly distracting. I took ages on my last project becuase of these distractions so I only let trusted text chatters in for my latest creation to take a break from that. Theres also a few collab projects I have lined up and I know they are going to be fun. I only started playing LBP in January so I still seem to have motivation to make stuff. I'm drawing a blank on what my next solo effort might be so I think I too will take a short break and do some team work next time. Having said that I have a feeling I will come up with something for myself to work on in no time. Usually I just grab a pen and draw some scribbles that lead onto some sort of idea to inspire me to create.2010-04-02 01:23:00

Yes, I agree, I hate mics. It's very rare that i can actually hear what the dude is saying. And even if I can, I much prefer my sackpeople to be mute. The mouth-moving looks so odd...

Unfortunately I've never actually had the opportunity to create for extended periods of time with other people. I'd love to try it out sometime. Creating by myself does give me a chance to make stupid mistakes without being embarrassed, though.

I love creating, and I love LBP... but I can't seem to create anything.
Every project I start ends up getting cancelled or never finished.
Right now I am making a completely new version of an old level I've made, hopefully it will be finished sometime.
Drawing the level on a piece of paper makes it a lot easier for me, it helps keeping in mind all the ideas and keeps you doing something instead of just sitting in create mode and thinking what you should do.

After my current solo level is done, I am planning to launch a group project, as solo takes up too much time.
Two people can finish the same level in half the time!

As for motivation, deadlines work wonders.
I haven't stopped working for weeks, only taking breaks to play online with friends.

I don't have any motivation to build anything at the moment. I've started a few levels but I don't feel the momentum to push me onwards. I'll just have to wait a little while. I'm just playing levels until I get the motivation to build. Not too many worries. I'm avoiding making final decisions as you have, Paddy. To quit making solo... I wouldn't be able to see I no longer wish to. Take a break by all means, but you can get back to some time.2010-04-03 15:49:00

I have an idea I'm currently performing, but I don't ike the way its come out so far. I feel like I'm not giving my all when I know I'm doing my best. I've never done a group project before.2010-04-04 21:56:00
