Engine Powered Car Concept
Archive: 12 posts
Considering someone made a engine in Little Big Planet already, I drew this little concept art in MSPaint, which is how I probably would make a engine powered car. http://i36.tinypic.com/2j1nblj.png The gears and engine are on different layers than the rest of the car, of course. I'll probably make this when I eventually get the game, and that'll be awhile. Any comments? | 2008-10-02 11:05:00 Author: IDTL Posts: 11 |
Yay! That looks awesome! It's creations like this that make me want the game so **** much! ^^ | 2008-10-04 12:02:00 Author: Stix489 Posts: 2080 |
how you going to make it move, are you going to do a trigger or button | 2008-10-04 22:11:00 Author: panzer3000 Posts: 362 |
Looks awesome. Can't wait to see it! | 2008-10-04 22:12:00 Author: Sackboyz_In_The_Hood Posts: 25 |
how you going to make it move, are you going to do a trigger or button I'm not sure of all the tools in LBP besides the explosions and stuff, so I'll just have to wait and see. I'll probably have the engine going, and when you get in it, and grab, a plate that is holding the back tire off of the ground folds up, and the wheel hits the floor, and it goes. Also, I can't guarantee it will go fast. | 2008-10-04 22:55:00 Author: IDTL Posts: 11 |
I've beeen building a single cylinder engine for the past week with working cam, gears, valves, lifters, piston, crank, the lot all running from one small toolbag motor. It is very difficult to get the tolerances right but I'm getting there slowly. The first thing I did was make all the gears I needed, now that those are finished I am laying out the engine and should have it done soon depending on time I have to dedicate to the game the next few days. Once the working motor is finished I will incorporate the various things to make it into a level as I made it that big that the sackman can easily walk through the whole thing. So, you can actually have it running off explosions? Or does it have to be still gear-driven, with the engine being a pseudo-powerplant? Because I am now officially confused. | 2008-10-05 01:25:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
Not sure yet Mark, I haven't tried to see if the explosion will power it, currently I'm using a single motor tool on one of the gears to power it, once I have the cylinder block and piston finished I will see if an explosion at top dead centre will have enough force to move the piston & gears but I don't think it will. If not I'll keep the single motor tool on the gear but still have spark and explosion at top dead centre of the piston stroke for realism. With one of the gears that you gave me, I had quite a big problem. I think it was the 20 toothed gear, anyway I had a wobble bolt in my creation and when my series of gears rotated left and right, the forces going one way and the wobble gear moving the other way would pop off the teeth because the forces moving against the gears was some what too strong for the gear to hold together. The smaller, I think.. 16 gear was alright since the teeth werent attached onto the design. Also sorry about earlier, I was busy creating a rail gun =p | 2008-10-09 09:38:00 Author: Quarter Posts: 30 |
I suggest using hidden in game pistons to move the engine pistons. From there you could power the crank and then the wheels. You could also use emitters to fake the actual combustion part. Sounds like a fun task though. I may give it a whirl. | 2008-10-14 07:03:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
It was easy enough to get it to work that way, I had one working in about 20 minutes, my whole point of the project was to see if I could get it to work using just one motor tool on one gear that then powered everything else including the crank, conrod, piston, lifters valves etc. Cheers QuozL | 2008-10-14 07:59:00 Author: QuozL Posts: 921 |
