Two ideas

Archive: 22 posts

It would be really usefull if you would see edited posts as new posts aswell. I saw that somewhere else to make sure that even if you can't do a doublepost your message will still be seen.

The other thing would be forums for other languages like a german forum. This way more people from other countries would register to your site. I would like to write a review in german for example because that would be much easier then in english. All you need is a moderator who speaks both languages.

I'm with you on the edit thin, but the whole other languaes i'm not so sure, and english isin't even my native language, so it has nothing to do with that, its just that i don't think there are THAT many people who would use it.2010-04-01 04:50:00

I agree with the edited posts thing because at the moment someone can new and interestinf information but people will think nothing has happened. As for the other languages thing I can't really comment on as my only language is english.

By the way you can add an extra "S" by pressing "Edit Post" than press "Go Advanced" then you will be able to change the title.

The problem with the different language thing is that this is a fan site for LBP right? The majority of levels are in English, so if you can play the LBP community levels fine, you can read all this fine too. If you can't read this, then, well you can't really play LBP very easily can you?2010-04-01 12:29:00

Have you checked out groups? You might try starting a Lets Speak German group or something and see how it goes. At least I don't think CC (ConfusedCartman our wonderful admin) would mind especially if you were willing to keep tabs to insure the conversations were not getting out of hand. At least you seem quite nice!

Groups in general are pretty powerful as you can have different threads like a forum. I don't think it should replicate the information out here, but it might be a nice chat room as well as explanation and discussion area for those German players that really want the information, but have a bit of trouble understanding some bits. It also might be fun for those that do speak a bit of German and wish to improve their skills!

Good luck!

I just found something interesting, if you download Google toolbar (http://www.google.com/toolbar/ff/index.html), then on the new toolbar click options - tools and then tick the translate box. This then translates a foreign language on a page automatically into your preferred language. So if you set it to German everytime you come on here it will show up all in German. How cool is that?

EDIT: And it works:

EDIT: In case someone downloads it thinking it's not working, it will look at what the page is mostly written in, so this page it would see as English even though aya posted in German, so it won't translate single posts. Maybe if everyone in the thread posted in German it might then.

@Aya042
I think you are very good. You spelled every word correctly and everything makes sense. ^^

@Doopz479
Ya that could be useful for foreigners but the problem about those translation programs is that they always translate everything word for word and sometimes sentences make no sense anymore.

LOL!! NO worries! ..however, next time simply edit your last post.

To start a group, head to the Community link above which brings up a menu. Select Groups and the resulting page in the somewhat upper left corner will be a big friendly button saying Create Group. You might want to double check, but I seriously doubt there is already one for what you are wanting to create.

Good luck with your group!

...well sorta, but double posting is frowned upon here. No worries though since you are new, I just wanted to make you aware of it.

Most welcome and good luck!!

I have another idea. I often have the problem that I want to write something to my threads but I can't because I was the last person who poested something. Since double posts are not allowed and there is no function to see edits as new posts how about one single thread where double posting is allowed which is used to ask other people to make a new post in a certain thread so you can write something?2010-04-02 16:24:00

Since double posts are not allowed...

From the official rules (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=21530-Rules-Consequences)...

You may double post only if you have new, substantial information to add and you feel that it is necessary for others to see said information.

...so, frankly, until there's a facility which marks edited posts as new, double posting is fine under these circumstances as a workaround.

So don't let the evil jwwphotos tell you otherwise.

Oh ok.

But, of course, you already knew this, since you would've had to check a box next to "I have read and agree to all the official forum rules" when you signed up for the forums.

The rules (much like most countries' laws) pretty much boil down to "don't annoy other people too much", so as long as you stick to that, you should be okay.

On the subject of marking edited posts as new, I'm not sure it's such a great idea. I don't think people generally want to re-read a huge post if the author is just fixing a typo, which oftentimes goes unnoticed anyway. So I guess double-posting is probably the best option for bring new information to people's attention, unless someone has a better idea?

Awwwwww.... I'm not evil. ....moooostly.... LOL!!

Sorry if it sounded that way!! When I see someone new double posting I try to send a heads up before giving some of the more angst driven induhviduals something to gnaw on. Especially since Chrree seems like a really nice person!!

@Aya042
Umm...well...xDDD I just know all these rules from so many forums so I didn't read them. I just took a quick look and to me it seemed that it's the same rules as always.

About the editing idea, you could make it only work if you write a reason why you had to edit it.

@jwwphotos
Aww thx that's nice of you! ^.^

@Gilgamesh
Ya I noticed that this morning. I guess this means I can delete my group.
