Fuchikoma Commando Part 1Chrree
A level inspired by "Ghost in the Shell" and "Metal Gear Solid" about an agent which has to infiltrate a base to get the enemies secret weapon.
Since no one is playing my level I'll promote it in this forum.

This is a series I started and it's inspired by "Ghost in the Shell" and "Metal Gear Solid". You are an agent send by an organization that wants you to get a secret weapon build by the enemy that could end a long war.

In this level you will face armed surveillance cameras, water mines, soldiers, mechs, lasers and more.

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1817/einfoto1.jpg http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/663/einfoto4.jpg

When I made this level I tried to make interesting and realistic effects and sounds like a very realistic rain, soldiers that can walk or very detailed mechs (I don't post a picture of the last enemy because then it would become less interesting). Some things of it took me weeks of trial and error so I spend a lot of time just for this level. I also want to make a very interesting story which will become deeper in the following parts of my series.

Unfortunately it's not as long as I wanted it to be because the visual effects need a lot of space but I'm sure the next one will be longer.

This first level is about finding the secret weapon and if enough people like my level you will control it in part 2. Since my friends gave me a very good feedback about it I'm sure you will like it to.

Edit: And here a trailer of my level: Fuchikoma Commando Part 1 Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDBVJTzf9jE)

I just finished playing your level.

Positives:
I love the rain and lightning effects in the boat!
I liked the 3D background in the initial warehouse area. The walking army guy on the balcony was top notch! The spent shell casings by the guards and the machine gun were a nice touch! I don't think you need to have quite so many shots for those guys though. They are quite easy to avoid, and it just seems to take longer than necessary to kill them all. I really liked the way you handled the first prize bubble. Very Mm like to have a second kind of hidden path to get there. (Any chance you read jackofcourse's guide to level creation?) I did like the crane in the basement of the first building (who doesn't like cranes?) And the platforming to get to the roof of that building was nice.

Suggestions:
The intro was pretty nice, but I thought the last screen went by too quickly. There were a few areas where I thought you could have added something to provide more visual interest. The dock, the zip line, and the top of the second building were areas where I thought they seemed very vanilla. I'm really not a big fan of long swinging grab areas, so I would like to have seen another platforming element get you past the first electronic fence. Perhaps, you could cut the swing in half by allowing sackboy up onto the balcony once you are past the guard? Overall, all your characters and mini-bosses are well constructed, but I thought they were all fairly easy to defeat, I think your level could be much improved if you thought of some more interesting ways to defeat your bosses. The level also seems a bit short, so you may want to consider adding another building to platform through if you have room in your thermo.

Characters/Mini-bosses: 4/5 (great graphics, but a little too predictable)
Graphics 3/5 (could use some more detail. Think about how much time you spent on the warehouse area vs the rest of the level.)
Gameplay: 3/5 (the elements that are there are good, but the level was a little too short and a little too easy for my tastes. I personally like to be a little more challenged)

I rated you 3/5 stars overall.

If you are still good for F4F please review my level "Pyrostilskin's Cave".

Thx for the review. About the lenght, I couldn't add anthing anymore. Lots of stuff in that level is very complecated and the last boss needs alot of saving space because that one is very detailed.
You are right about the swining part, I'll see if there is enough space left to add a simple balcony. About more details in the level, I'll add some small things if I can and I'll change the energy of the soldiers. It would be very difficult to change something about the opening so I have to leave it like that.
About that the enemies are too easy I know because I'm not so good at that but I will make them better in part two. And no, I didn't read the guide. ^^

About your level I will try it later.

Just played your level.

Pro:
-It has a very good, cool GitS-vibe. The beginning scene with the wheeling fuchikoma, and then the atmospheric part with the boat in the rain. Also liked the mounted machine-gun Kusanagi-style.
-I liked the overall gameplay and the little puzzles. Not to hard or frustrating, but challenging.
-The switch from warehouse to VR-area was interesting. Just like the gameplay, the background is diverse, and that's a good thing.

Con:
-I broke the battery when pushing it across the floor. I had to restart the level to be able to continue. Could you make the battery respawn?
-End boss is somewhat easy, because he only fires plasmabolts in the middlelayer.
-Some of the magic mouths are a bit redundant. In a lot of cases your level speaks for itself. Like the searchlight that triggers plasmabolts, or the function of the crane. Players can easily (and should) find that out for themselves.

All in all: great, stylish level. Can't wait for the next part!

If you have the time for F4F it would be great if you could look at one of my levels. (Links below.)

Thx for the review. But one thing I don't understand. You said there shouldn't so many explainations because some things the player can find out for himself but at the crane part there is one speachbubble which tells you that you get a new battery when you grab the the small terminal in the left corner.
I would really like to change the last boss but unfortunately I can't add anything to my level anymore. I changed a few things Rohar mentioned yesterday and now there is no space left anymore.

I'll play some of your levels this evening when I'm home again.

Btw can someone please post to my Resident Evil Mansion thread? I would like to post my progress and I don't want it to disapperar to the second site already.

In answer to your question: there were I believe 4 magic mouths on the crane, three explaining what each switch does, and one that explains where you can get a new battery. Seemed like you could just as well use some pictograms or something. Some arrows would be less disruptive to the gameplay.

The battery that I broke was the one earlier, the one you have to dive up from the water, from among the bombs. It just broke and vanished when I was dragging it to the connector. I couldn't find a magic mouth there, telling me how to respawn THAT battery (I did search, but perhap I overlooked?)

I''ll check out the RE Mansion soon.

Oh that one. Ya it sucks that it break when u jump on it but I wanted to make the player be very careful not to hit the mines because it would destroy the battery. :/

About the crane part, I'll see if I can change that.

Hey, just got through playing your level and I loved it! Lot of great stuff in here.

Cool Things:

- The intro sequence was outstandingly good. Great to look at and really got me psyched for the level.
- The mounted gun was a great idea and really fun to use
- The environmental effects were great, and the detail you put into everything like the numbers on doors, etc was top notch.
- Boss fight was great, loved the design work. Killed me the first time, had to go through the level again and set it right : D

Suggestions:

- When I played through your level the second time, I already knew to go down to the crane, so I went there and powered everything up first. When I got back to the jetpack up top, the speech bubble still came up and wondered if there was a way to restore power. It's really a minor thing, but if you ever have room in your thermo maybe you could set up a switch where the bubble doesn't come up if the power's already been activated?

- Another minor thing, there's a typo in the Fuchikoma message at the end; "Finaly" instead of "Finally".

Bottom Line: One of my favorite levels yet, 5 stars and hearted.

Wow thx! =D Your post makes me really happy. ^^ I will see if I can solve the problem with the speech bubble and I'll correct that typo.

Edit: I made a few changes. I hope it's even better now. =D

I was looking forward to this because it looks great but I'm sorry i couldn't even get past the first searchlight. I couldn't find a safe spot at all as it detected me on every layer. Also every time I died it sent me back to the boat which was awkward to get out of too. That's only a normal checkpoint too so I ran out of lives very quickly. You at least need a checkpoint just before the searchlight as being sent back to the boat was really annoying. So annoying that I couldn't face trying again. Maybe another time.2010-04-01 23:45:00

But that's what I added the box for. I won't kill you on that layer and all you have to do is to wait till it's not seing you anymore. But I thought you can simply see that. o.O2010-04-02 00:00:00

Yes I stood behind the box and it still killed me. Hence the reason I said I couldn't find a safe spot.2010-04-02 00:47:00

It can't be. You must have done something wrong because it's just impossible. :/ I did that part countless times just to test my level and it never happend since it don't hit u at the front layer.2010-04-02 00:52:00

Sorry I meant to say that when I stood behind that box, which I thought was a safe spot it still detected I was there and it killed me when I ran out even though the light had gone past me. I can only assume the trigger radius on it is too big.2010-04-02 02:43:00

Nope only when u stand beside it u r safe. I made the radius a bit bigger on purpose because it would be too easy if it's too small.2010-04-02 03:05:00

Hey Chree, just played your level.........VERY nice indeed!
I wont list all the things I liked about it, all i'm gonna say is 5stars and a heart! Great job!

Few pointers that have already been made, and I advise that you TAKE NOTE!
1: The boat is too hard to get out of due to that little step at the front, either put some invisible rubbewr in there so you cant get stuck, or remove/adjust the little step.
2: The begining search light is TOO HARD!!! I restarted 3 times!!! Infinate, or double life points!

Darn it...im gonna list a few things i really liked:
First off your little details, here there and bloody every where, love em!
The key card part (Not giving anything away)
The lazers on the moving erm..platform thingies.
The crane the crane, oh the crane.
You little moving soldiers.

Nuf said!

Oh someone else played my level and I didn't see. xD Thx for the good rating and the heart!

About the two things you mentioned:
1. Ya I noticed that it can be a bit annoying but since you never get stuck I'd rather don't change anything about that overheating level anymore.
2. Can't be too hard since someone even told me that it's more like decoration then really dangerous and non of my friends ever had problems to get past the search light.
