Need help making a weight thing

like if you put a heavy object on it it will go down, but if nothing is on it, it will go up | 2010-03-31 00:16:00 Author: The_Lil_JoKeR Posts: 745 |
There are several ways this can be approached. If you just want the effect - and not the real physics of it, you can fake it with a piston and mag switch set to Directional. Put a mag key on the heavy object and when it triggers the switch, the piston will move your platform down. However - I think (I say think, because I've never actually tried it, so it's entirely theoretical) that you can control this with a winch (or a piston). If you tweak the strength on the winch/piston, you should be able to get it so that when an object of a certain weight is on it, it will move down; if not it will move up. Attach a switch that never gets triggered (a grab switch attached to non-grabbable material works nicely for this) and set it to Directional, so that when not weighed down it moves all the way up. Dunno for sure if this will work, and someone with a bigger brain may come along and give you a better answer, but that's my stab at a solution for you. Hope it helps. | 2010-03-31 00:26:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
thnx ii'll try it out | 2010-03-31 00:27:00 Author: The_Lil_JoKeR Posts: 745 |
A similar idea to V0rtexs is to use a piston and a spring. The piston is set to a low strength (1 or 2) and stiff, which gives the platform balance. You'll need a grab switch to make sure the piston is off as well. The spring acts as the force that counteracts whatever you're putting on the platform. You'll have to play around with the springs settings until you get what you want. I think that should work, although you might get a little wobble on he platform because of the spring. | 2010-03-31 00:35:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
still not getting it | 2010-03-31 00:55:00 Author: The_Lil_JoKeR Posts: 745 |
If you want it to be really simple, you could use a spring underneath a platform (probably cardboard or something light). When sackboy or some other object hits the platform, it will "go down" and when there are no objects on the platform, it will "go up" and return to its original position. You also need to set the spring to a certain stiffness so it remains upright. | 2010-03-31 01:28:00 Author: Silverpanther Posts: 156 |
still not getting it What are you not getting? How to actually create these different solutions, or is it just not working as we had hoped? | 2010-03-31 04:39:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
