LBP Paint Factorysmasher1116789
Take a journey through an amazing automated paint factory! Try to avoid industrial dangers as you tour lbp's premier paint factory.
This is the first level I've created in about a year, so go easy on me. I want to thank Teebonsy for doing that great layer glitch tutorial. I'd also like to thank Rhyfelwr for doing the cool lettering in my sig which I stole for my level.

Check out the pics VVVVVVV

Hey there!
Wonderful level. You say you haven't published a full level for a while, and with a level like this, I ask myself whether you've been working on this the whole time!
You're obviously an experienced creator who knows his poppit well, and I enjoyed this level very much - both with original obstacles and with great decorations and a wonderful factory enviroment, as well as a little mini game at the end. I'm actually amazed I'm the first one to post on here - this level definatly deserves more plays. Well done! 5 stars and a heart! =)

Wow! Those are some very nice pictures! This sounds like it's a must play according to standby! Did you happen to use a color filter on the level? I like its vibrance! >__>2010-03-29 23:37:00

I liked it a lot. It was an interesting and fun level. A little on the difficult side. And some of the gas at one point (grey-ish gas) seemed like it was a little messed up. Additionally, I think once i grabbed onto the first hook and fell onto the (buckets?) It was a little confusing as to where you're supposed to go so I'd add arrow stickers. Also I fell off the buckets and ended up at the end of the race the first time

Overall a very fun level and it looks really nice too! Please check out mine, but be gentle in criticism its my first.

Thanks for the feedback Kbling! I was wondering if people would know where to go or not. I guess you've answered my question. As for the gas your being too vague, as there's lots of gas in my level. I'll take a look around though. Thanks for catching the part with the race though. I'll take a look at that too. I'd be more than happy to give feedback on your level, and don't worry. I'm not a very harsh critic. (accept on myself).

The gas I was referring to is grey-ish gas just before you get a paintinator, and drop have to shoot back up to stop yourself from being vaporized by those shooters. I'm not playing it right now, but that's as best as I can remember it.

The problem with it i think was that even when you were still on a platform you could get hit by it simply by changing layers.

OK, thanks. Now I know the part. Should be an easy fix.

Woo hoo! FANTASTIC! You know, you have this REALLY killer knack for fast paced, exciting gameplay. The paintinator action, the mechanics, and the adrenaline rush in this level are fantastic. I'm definately going to revisit this one many times. You've definately outdone yourself this time!

If I could give it more than 5 stars and a heart, I would - I had an absolute blast with this one!

Well, this is my 1st comment/reply/thing/whatever on lbpc, and I'm glad that this site has led me to such a master! The intro was just exquisite! I mean, this level has it all - I didn't even find any flaws in it - at all! I just loved all the excitement and lights and fast shooting awesomeness. TBH, I came to this page by accident, but I am just flabbergasted (is that a word? Ahh dm) by the overall quality of this lvl - you sir, are an amazing, expierinced... AWESOME creator. anyway.. I could keep ranting on about this lvl (and believe me I would) but I have a network to explore! Cheers!

I was liking it: but so much was going on in the background and foreground that I just gave up. I was trying to jump on what appears to be a platform... turns out to be in the glitch layer. Began to feel cheap.
Also a part where boxes or something came out of a conveyor/tube or something just piled up and blocked the way...

Good intro, but a great intro animation of your name!

Positives:
A whole bunch of stunning visuals and detail! With minor exceptions, the level looked awesome throughout! The animations and moving scenery were really great. I loved your use of articulated rubber to simulate the hoses for the paint sprayers, really innovated stuff! I really liked your platforming/game play ideas. The level was great fun. Added the mini survival challenge at the end was a neat idea as well! For what it's worth, I didn't get stuck anywhere, or have much trouble figuring out where to go.

Suggestions:
The first area you land in after the intro, seems so spartan compared to the rest of the level. You might want to make this area smaller, or perhaps add some gameplay to liven it up. I realize this is a little nit picky and technical, but it kind of bothered me that the fans would spin AGAINST the direction of the paintball blasts, if you added a cover to the bottom of the fan housing, the paintballer could only hit them in the clockwise direction which would help my nervous tic. It was also a little challenging to deal with the lag in the areas with a ton of motion, the motion was so visually appealing it's hard for me to wish you could simplify some of the action to bring the frame rate back up. Perhaps it's just something you should consider for the future.

I gave it 5/5+H, and hearted you as well. Thanks for a great level!

I would really like some feedback on my level "Pyrostilkin's Cave", if you find the time.

Thanks for the feedback Killzonequin07! Sorry you had a bad time in my level. One thing I try to avoid is "cheapness" in my levels. I'm sorry you felt it was cheap. I was trying for a crazy industrial atmosphere that stops for no sackboy. As for the part with the boxes piling up. That part was pretty tough to get perfect, so I'm not surprised that it isn't. I don't think I could get it any better though. Your experience is the first I've heard of though, so hopefully it doesn't act up anymore. Thanks for playing!

Thanks for playing Rohardragontamer! I agree with you about the beginning. I thought it looked bland from the start. I'm not sure I have enough thermo to add anything though. I'll check it out this weekend. Not a bad idea about the fan thing. Not only would it be a little more realistic, but you would have to improve your aim as well. I'll try to implement it. As for the lag. I hate it just as much as anybody, but when you have a vision for a level. What do you do? I just couldn't bring myself to cut anything out of that section, because I think it would take away more from the level than having the lag does. Thanks for playing!!

I'll give you feedback on your level tomorrow.

Hey, smasher just played through your level this morning, thought the atmosphere was amazing. Really challenging in some parts.

Cool Things:

- The visuals in this level are fantastic. I actually love how much stuff you have going on, the carts, the buckets, it's all great to look at. The colors are really vibrant and blend together well, makes the level really really pop and stand out.
- The platforming is great, the running and jumping flow very nicely.
- Shooting for bubbles at the finish was a nice touch and a lot of fun

Suggestions:

- You have two hooks that call attention to themselves so the player can grab them. Once you've pointed out that the first hook is grab-able and not part of the scenery, it doesn't seem needed to do it again.
- The part near the end where the fumes come down as you jump to safety seemed a touch too hard to me. For one reason or another I kept dying over and over during this part. It could very well just be my lack of skills, but it seems like there's just enough time to make the jumps and get out of there. If you could slow up the gas by even a second, the leeway would help a lot.

Bottom Line: Great level with outstanding visual and great platforming, I gave it 5 stars.

Update. I made a few changes today. I spruced up the first room. I changed all checkpoints to infinite. I fixed and tweaked various things. I also added a little more time to the deadly fumes part. Enjoy! 2010-04-03 14:35:00

Just finished playing this level. I gotta hand it to ya, it wasnt a easy ride. Very hard level(well for me)
But I liked it, good details and unique gameplay. I liked how you had many things going on at once. I kept getting stuck on the part where the bucket fall down and you have to shoot the paint sprayer. But a very good level. The start was awesome by the way
:star::star::star::star: and a heart from me

Can you check my level out and chuck some feedback my way, whenever you are not busy thank you.

Hi there Smasher, I'll do my usual and type as I play:

B E A U T I F U L INTRO, wow, makes me want to start again just to see that (Giving me ideas)
Nice fan idea, had me frantically tapping the R1, after dying the first time.
Cool frantic shooting at the beams, my finger now hurts (getting too old for this)
Got a bit of a Charlie and the chocolate factory feel about the part with the cool looking paint nozzle things. (finding this section really tough) gggrrr REALLY TOUGH, died at least 20 times !! Getting hacked off now...Im not good at platformers, and I am finding this bit impossible, gonna give up in a minute. PHEW, Ive never been so pleased to see a check point! I found the pain squirter's kept getting me, the gap between the two to jump was difficult, and I kept slipping off the platform where the paint gun is. Now don't take this to hart, as I said, I am TERRIBLE at platformers, but I bet I'm not the only one that had trouble there. Had no trouble with any other part so far, just this bit.

Having real trouble at the deadly fumes part too. Ahh, you have to shot the electrified stuff at the bottom.....obvious maybe, but I didn't get it.
OK, so now I'm stuck! Shot the glass, it disappeared, shoot a few hoops, died, re spawned on the left hand side of the Glass, paint gun wont now dissolve the glass, no where Else to go. So, gotta quit, sorry.

I'm guessing I was at the end, but not being able to finish was a shame indeed. I also, (I f I didn't make it clear ENOUGH lol, I found parts really tough, frustratingly so.
Visuals were fantastic, some really nice puzzles, and once again FANTASTIC intro, but I can only give it 4 stars due to my difficulties.

If you would care to F4F with out being too hurt by my criticisms, I just published TANKINATOR. TA!

Hey there shade seeker. Don't worry about your criticism. I don't take it harshly at all. ( If I did I probably wouldn't have it on F4F ). I'm used to people having trouble with my levels. That's my biggest hurdle. Finding a happy medium with the difficulty. ( I never seem to ) At the end did you grab all the bubbles to the right? If you didn't then the door won't open. ( I did put a reminder in the text though No biggie though. On the other side of the door was the score board. Thanks for playing, and your unvarnished opinion. I'll get that feedback on your level done real soon. Thanks! 2010-04-03 23:06:00

Hello there!

Has it been a year? Wow. So yeah you achieved your goal of creating an beautiful, automated factory on the verge of being out of control. I loved the space this game is played in. The intro was done well. I thought materials, gameplay, and design all worked toward the same positive goal. For me your lighting stood out above all other attributes. Really crisp and bright! Some thoughts. I wasn't a big fan of the race portion. It was manic and I made what I thought was a bad jump... and ended up very near the finish line... The race upon repeated plays is going to be the most worn out boring part of an otherwise charming level... with all the comboneering I felt I was doing... not sure the race should have such focus... The level also felt very short to me... of course that might have just been all the adrenaline pumping... I think I would have found the level hard had I not just completed another platformer (which uses the paintanator in ridiculose ways like flying through space backwards having to shoot between your legs to hit a target which will only momentarily create a safe zone...) so yeah your difficulty was 'Good'.

I will say while I loved the level, I hated those first fans/gas. I died many times, currently have cramps in my hands... I can honestly say I have no idea what I did differently when I made it through... it was the same repetitive action each time. All I know is I was thankful when I did... and then the level just takes off! Nicely done!

It's not necessary but if your up for some controller abuse you could give my 'The MUPPET Level' a try. thread here https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24744-The-MUPPET-Level

Just something that I noticed when I played, and now I see others are having the same problem. Can I make a suggestion? Okay, the paint nozzle bit. Seeing as so many people are dying down here, would it be possible to put a checkpoint directly beforehand? Because if you have to play that bit over and over again, it may get frustrating to continuiously walk to the obstacle before you can have another stab at it!(Not sure if you've done this since I last played, so forgive me if you have).

Thanks!

Hey standby, Sounds like I have a little more tweaking to do. I think I can make some areas a little more "freindly". I have a couple of ideas for making this one a little easier. I guess I just don't realize how hard my levels are going to be when I'm building. Thanks everyone, and I'll try to make a little easier tomorrow, as I would like everyone to finish without too much trouble.

smasher, that level did it for me. it was brilliant. the detail, the creative use of objects and decorations, the puzzles, everything! i really enjoyed playing it.

i didn't find it hard, except for the gas which follows you down the tube with electric platforms. that was a little fast. i thought that should be a little slower. but that was nothing really. i can't flaw your creative use of objects and decorations as it was fantastic! 5 stars and a heartie from me!

I just couldnt do it.. I just couldnt...

Thanks for your feedback on Trial of Seasons! Just played your level and loved it. I'm mainly going to give you the list of areas where I see room for improvement from my one playthrough, but don't take that the wrong way. You already know you're awesome. Strong 5/5 stars!

1) Obviously as others have said, the opening is amazing. Plenty of people have done something similar, but you add several little flairs and unique pieces that make it stand head and shoulders above. Good job. We'll see plenty of copycats soon I'm sure.

2) The visuals and all the detail were a definate plus in your level (excellent subtle use of the 3d glitch). Unfortunately , all that complexity in the visuals is also a downfall in some cases (just a note for the future... nothing you can really do once you've spent all this time making it look so good). A few other players said they quit because there was so much going on. I wouldn't go that far, but it is difficult to figure out what is a gameplay element (e.g., a platform for jumping on) and what is simply for eyecandy. It's first apparent in the area with the rolling carts. There are tracks and carts rolling all over the place (my first thought was that I should try to jump from track to track?) but ultimately you just jump over one cart and keep walking. The next place it really stood out was in the section where you're riding buckets to the left and shooting paint machines to turn them off. I died a few times trying to avoid a fancy machine making a loud noise and shooting a light out. It turns out the machine was just a decoration in the middle of a bunch of other deadly machines.

3) I agree with whoever above posted that it was difficult to figure out where to go when you have to jump from bucket to bucket to head left. An arrow or point bubbles would help a lot (I loved this section otherwise!). Also, if you jump to grab the hook at the end of that section, you're likely to unintentionally swing into the poisonous gas on the left.

4) Finally, I think something went wrong at the end where you're shooting the electric circles for points. That part seemed to go on for a very long time, then when the circles finally stopped falling, shooting the left glass panel wouldn't open it (why not just make it open automatically?). I somehow finally got it to work (collecting point bubbles that were blocking the right-hand door?), but it was definately didn't work the way you'd like it to.

I had fun! Thanks again for the review.

Thanks for the feedback Sickivionkey! I've made some more changes based on your, and everyone's feedback. I've addressed just about everything you mentioned, and I think this will play a little smoother now. If anyone who's had trouble getting through this level reads this, you'd be doing me a favor if you could take another crack at it, and let me know if the changes did any good.

Thanks!

Hi smasher, I played your level. I found it awesome! The visual are nice, the gameplay is fun and original, and the difficult is average neither too hard nor easy. :star::star::star::star::star:

Going little bit more into detail:

GOOD:
- the visuals are awesome, with all those things moving at same time
- the game play is original
- the difficult is nice. The level challenges you, but I didn't got stuck

THINGS YOU COULD CONSIDER:
- The level is rather short
- I had the feeling that the quality of the level goes down. I mean, the beginning is awesome, but at the end, when you have to go down shooting at the electric platforms, looks empty, and rather simple. In fact, it looks like you got tired and published the level as it was, without finishing it. Perhaps you had no more thermometer?
- Regarding in this area, I discovered that the electric platforms disappear shooting at them by chance. Perhaps you could give a more apparent clue about what you are supposed to do

Overall, the level is awesome, but the end is a bit disappointing. If you have thermometer available, you should work in this part

Great level, Didn't personally find it too difficult. I had absolutely no criticisms of this level up until the race. I think that on races like this you should be given a minimal amount of time to complete it, not something like 500 Seconds. That was the only gripe though, Otherwise a great looking, nicely styled and generally awesome level. And I'm going to say it too, Nice intro xD2010-04-22 20:29:00

Thanks for playing Onturenio! I know what you mean about the level being short. Originally I had a much bigger level planned with a boss and everything, but my thermo is bursting. It's actually quite a bit over full, using that trick for tricking your thermo. I don't want to risk using the trick any more. I must say, I'm still bummed about not making my level the length I wanted to though. I guess I can always do a sequel....

Greetings Smasher;

Overall, I found your level to be a tour de force of what can be done technically/visually within LittleBigPlanet -- from the spectacular opening credits (I'm going to have to figure out how you did that) to the ending scoreboard. Very well done. The action was challenging, quite original, non-stop, and threaded well together from section to section. I was very impressed overall. Here are my suggestions, especially given all that Thermo room you have left....

-- Soundtrack: I hate to say it, but I've become a bit numb to the intense, heart-thumping, paintinator battle-music from MGS: it's used far too often in the battle-levels out there. Granted, I know that we aren't spoiled for choice with regard to music tracks: I'd like to see about 20 more interactives available, which would give us some real variety to choose from. Did you play around with anything else that might fit your theme better?

-- Lag: this was particularly bad in the area where you are either jumping over or shooting carts on a track. Shooting them was almost impossible with the lag, and jumping difficult-but-doable.

-- As with some of your other reviewers, it wasn't obvious to me that you could shoot an electrified platform to 'put it out' for a few moments. However, my 9-year-old just did it naturally. [shrug]

-- I found the mini-game at the end to be a bit out-of-theme. Like...I've got this mini-game idea, I don't want to make a separate, challenge level for it, so I'll stick it....here! Others might like the little 'cool down' phase after all of the intensity. Personally, I found it a bit odd there.

Truly, Smasher -- brilliantly done! You've showed me that I have a lot to learn yet in the realm of level creation.

Finally was able to play it today. Right off the bat I fell in love with the gameplay. Great way of using the painterator, probably the best gameplay I've played using the painterator, so gratz on that. I also loved the visuals, but there were allot of areas that lagged, and there were also a couple of places that were confusing. Overall, I loved it, it was great.

:star::star::star::star: and a <3.

Can you leave feedback on Cemetery Drive (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25672-Cemetery-Drive), please? Thanks.
