The Mm Themed Mini-Level Contest: Winner Announced!

The Mm Themed Mini-Level Contest: The Gardens
Deadline: May 2nd, 2010

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/3154/gardenscopy.jpg (http://img90.imageshack.us/i/gardenscopy.jpg/)

This came to my mind a few hours ago and I thought it would be a cool idea for a Community Contest. How about a contest to create little "Mini-Levels" using themes from LittleBigPlanet's story mode? I thought that since you wouldn't have to create full levels, more people would be interested. I also wanted to encourage people to build more VERTICALLY than horizontally, like most levels.

I have a copyable template on my published page that has the perimeters in which you must create your level. It may seem small, but I'm sure you could find ways to use the available space. I've decided to start with the first stop in story mode and as long as people keep entering the contests, keep going in order all the way to The Wilderness. I need participation in order for this to be successful!!

I will need two active and un-biased judges to help me out also. If you would like to judge, please let me know here in this thread and I'll see what I can do! :]

Judges
1. piggabling
2. SirAsphalt90

RULES: READ CAREFULLY
1. The level must be created during the contest period
2. The level must use the template provided
3. The level must only use the approved materials
4. All gameplay must take place within the boundaries given. This means that the sackboy should never leave the boundaries, although you can build outside of them.
***Logic and scenery can be placed outside the boundaries!***
***All gameplay pieces must be within the boundaries***
***The perimeters must remain intact to make sure all gameplay takes place within them. Having the boundarie visible will not affect the final scoring of your level(s)***
5. Only TWO levels can be submitted per person/group
6. The level(s) must be submitted before the deadline
7. Collaborations are allowed
8. Glitches are acceptable
9. When posting a level, make sure to include name, author, and general location
DISQUALIFICATION WILL RESULT IF THE RULES ARE NOT FOLLOWED

Material List:
-All Basic materials
-All types of Glass
-All Garden-Themed materials

Grading:
The levels will be graded on a scale from 1-10 in four categories:
1. Gameplay
2. Visuals
3. Fun Factor
4. Overall Quality

The best score will be a 100.00, but creators don't have to worry about that! The judges will do it!

Here is the template level:
Mini-Level Garden Template by piggabling

The deadline, as of now, is May 2nd, 2010. It should be a decent amount of time to create a small level. If it sounds like too little time, let me know. If you don't want your level being copied, remember to make it un-copyable!

The prize for winning is unknown, if there is one, so bear with me.

So, get to work and create some masterful mini-levels, but please follow the rules of the competition! Be sure to stay creative and have fun! I look forward to seeing some unique levels! Who wants to be crowned "King of Mini-Levels?"

Yeah, why not? I'll enter, that's what I always say though... and give some people time to make the level, you posted this 3 hours ago lol.

Make the prize a crown and I'll definitely enter.

Yeah, I know I've got to give people more time, but I just can't wait!! Haha! I want to star judging! Anyway, does everyone think you've got enough time? It should only take a day or three to put together a nice level in the space I've provided. I think...

Also, to anyone who has looked at the template, is it too small? It's fifty large grid squares by fifty large grid squares. If you look at it, it looks pretty narrow and tall. That is my point though; to make people build more vertically.

Just let me know and if anyone has any questions, don't be afriad to ask! Hopefully, I will be able to hold contests through the end of the year! After I'm finished with the story characters, I'll have to find another theme! But first I have to get through his one. I'm looking way to far into the future... My goal is to have at least enough entries for a third, second, and third place!! Lol!

Great! We need as many participants as we can get! It wouldn't take very long to make, so please at least give it a shot! Just throw somthing together for the heck of it! I think I've decided to not follow a story character for next round, though. Unless that's what everyone wants... I want to keep people engaged! Lol!
The next round (if there is one), will give much more creating freedom. I suppose we'll all have to learn as we go!

But remember, the level doesn't necessarily have to be long, time wise. You're given some space and it's all up to you to figure out what you're going to do with it!

Thanks so much! I think I'll go and play it soon. The judges and myself will wait until after the dead line to judge it though. So if there's any changes you want to make, you have until the deadline to refine the level.

Come on people! It doesn't take long to make these levels! Go on and give it a shot! We appreciate all entries and participants!

Also if anyone has any ideas for prizes, please let me know! Thanks!

This contest sounds quite fun, I'll see if I have the time to enter. By the way, will you be doing this with down-loadable content packs such as the Metal Gear Solid Pack, the Monster Pack, the History Pack, the Pirates of the Caribbean Pack, and the soon to be The Incredibles Pack?2010-03-30 03:18:00

Yeah I think I'll probably enter this, School Holidays in couple of days. I'm just going to finish Part 1 of my Planet Rawning Series then I'll get to work, expect to see it in maybe 2 weeks?

Also I will probably use aspects of MGS, Pirates of Carribean, Monsters and History Pack etc. is that okay?

Alright sounds good. About future contests, I will not be doing a contest that is primarily based on any DLC. I don't want to limit the number of participants I can get.

Also, you can ONLY use stickers, switches, and decorations from any DLC in this round. This round you can only use basic, Garden~themed, and glass materials for this round!

Why don't you do one each month! 2010-03-30 21:23:00

This is great! I love seeing all these people who say they're going to enter!

I'll keep on working on the themes of future contests, if this contest goes well and if people are still willing to compete in future contests. I may also throw in some special twists to future contests. Maybe alter the creating space/shape. Of course the theme will change too. Going in the order of the chapters was my original plan, but it seems more boring everytime it comes to my mind... The next theme might be the next chapter, or it may be something original, I'm not sure yet.

@thestarlight_600---> My original plan was to do one each month!! But I'm not sure because it will take a week or two for all of us judges to get to playing all the levels and get the scores organized! We'll start judging the levels right after the deadline and I explain the scoring system to you guys in a bit more detail when we get there. It won't be too hard. You could probably judge the next round as long as you're a good judge this time around! <__<

A little *Hint, Hint* to the creators--- use as much space as possible and remember all judging aspects while you're creating. The length of the level isn't going to make or break it, but it definitly will help to make it longer and more immersive... UTILIZE THAT SPACE!!!

Maybe I'll keep giving a few hints for you all down the line...

I got some questions about stuff not mentioned in the rules.

Are the following things allowed?:
1. If I would use an emitter, I could emit 10.. if not 50 levels that are 50/50 big grid sizes big within the 50/50 space.
2. Partial emitted level pieces, so I could change one 25/25 piece with another.
3. Move the 50/50 piece around the level to change backgrounds.
4. If I have a non basic material looking object that is in fact one of the basic materials it would considered a glitch.. and therefore not against the rules? (moocow)
5. Usage of water.
6. Is it ok if my account is US while I live in Europe (EU)

wait... how will us judges know exactly which levels are which? there should be some kind of code, MMMLC1, for example.
plus, will there be a round for each story chapter?
can I judge all?

Okay luos thanks for all those wnderfil questions: :/

So one: water is allowed.
You can move the building space, but please assure me it will stay the same size.
About the emmiters, if you can find a way to do what I think you're explaining, and can keep the sackboy and all he does in the box, I'd say go for it! I'm anxiuos to see what you can come up with.
I'm going to have to say no to the cow glitches material though. It just isn't on the list.
You're account is fine also!

At emo; the gardens objects are allowed.

Can't wait to see some more entries!!

I'm interested. What stickers can we use exactly? Can I use colours for instance? I think it's a basic sticker set that could be used in any theme.

Can we create stickers?

3D glitch or no?

A little confused on theme lol. I know it's gardens. Does it have to tie in with the first gardens level story wise?

Alright, all stickers are allowed and the 3-D glitch is accepted. It must tie into the gardens story levels in some way. Looks, the simple gameplay, characters, etc. It only is required to tie into the Gardens theme minimally...2010-04-04 22:38:00

Alrighty! I got started on it and the area is pretty small so I'll have to cram stuff in! Since you said you encourage more vertical I was expecting something much taller and skinnier but a square will do I guess. Maybe for future possible contests altering the shape a bit would be interesting. Imagine having to make a level in the shape of a pig for instance.2010-04-05 16:06:00

Yeah, it is pretty small, I know. I had most of the same thoughts as you when making this contest, except the pig-shaped one. Haha! I was debating the height of the space in my head. I didn't want straight column-like levels being made by everyone, so I kept it a square to see how it goes the first time around. It will definitely change next round. It made be larger in all aspects, just longer, or just taller. I'm not sure as of now. Just trying to get past the first round!

It seems like it's going well so far, but I won't really know until the deadline and all entries have been submitted. I hope all who've posted here are working on one now! That's all I can do now though... Just hope

Feel free to try it out,it's crazy, and very garden-ish :] (plus I have not got a single piece of feedback here on LBPC,I'm really surpriced as this place has provided me with feedback every time before D: )

Anyway! I wish the best of luck to you guys with your entries. I wish I could have joined in but there's just not enough time right now.

That's pretty bad, man. Pre-tty, pre-tty, pre-tty bad. You should make him an exclusive piggabling object or sticker, maybe a pig-shaped trophy or something.2010-06-13 18:18:00

I told them that there probably wouldn't be a prize so it shouldn't come as a suprise to any of them. I have no means of getting a prize. Once the XP system returns (if ever), that will be the prize. :]2010-06-13 18:48:00
