http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp327/staticspark151/LittleBigPlanet%20PSP/SolidJourney.jpgTesting... Testing... You want to be a
soldier? Well, it'll involve a brain.
The Moment you all been waiting for! (Drum Roll!) Well at least most of your have been waiting for...

Anyways, I've finished up my new level. It's a RPG type of level, so there will be many talking.
You start as a regular sack becoming a recon. Your friend Kent will help you around your journey.
You will go through numerous landscapes and solve tiny puzzles with some platforming skills.

This level is quite different from the rest of my levels! Which is good.
As I mentioned, sadly this level has been corrupted. Sorry for the delay, but it's finished now!
The beginning of the level is the same as the original before it became corrupted. (So don't question how it was before)
I also mentioned a cool puzzle where you get to move the landscape kind of. Well, I remade it and added a new one along.

I would love to see your guys feedback about the level. (Feedback is like nicotine, you become addicted to it.)
I took my time and it took a long time to make. I ran out of ideas, but I got more.
The level is made the way it is. So, if you have problems with the ridged corner editing.
(I'm trying to be realistic because rocks aren't smooth, at least most of the time.)

I would like to thank two people with my new level.
First, Amazingflyingpoo.
After seeing "Shallow Springs", I wanted to create an RPG level, AGAIN!
Second, Spok22.
Who's that, well he inspired me of adding a volcano climate in my level.

I'm so glad you stopped to check my thread! I would be more delighted if you gave me feedback!
Anyways, THANKS!

Thanks to everybody who helped me locate some problems.
1st UPDATE:
Fixed the lava flood challenge. (It's not the best, but it is sure better than before.)
Fixed the "Reset Ship" Switches. (They should work way better than before)
Made two bolts not appear.
Fixed this the speech bubble with the cut off word.
Took out the arrows in one of the puzzles.
Added few minor stickers (Not really noticeable)
The background in the volcano climate is slightly lighter than the landscape. (Now you shouldn't be too confused)
The room where you get stuck usually is , well, I hope it should be fixed. (It may have a problem, but I didn't have problems with it)
2nd Update
The lava chase is fixed. (Because you could fall directly inside the lava without dieing)
Speech bubble fixed, like Taffey mentioned.
Made tentacle eye thinner by a little bit. Like Taffey mentioned.
I think I fixed something else... Anyways there shouldn't be more problems.
MAJOR UPGRADE This is an apology for republishing the level 2 times so far.
I added an extra part to the level. (Meet a new guy, "Virus")

If you get stuck it the room with the two monsters, PLEASE REPORT IT TO ME.
I really don't want this to be broken.

Anyways, I don't think I should have more problems, but if I do, Please tell me. Enjoy the level

Spark, your talents never cease to amaze me.

This is the most complete package of a level I have ever played on psp. It had everything. Platforming, good puzzles, a race with high tension, slick mechanics, perfect camera work, cool characters, and a beautiful art direction. The level design was superb. I only wish I could use that many materials and make it look so good. Your sticker work as usual is in top form, you may be the best there is at using those things.

Everything about this level was perfect from start to finish.

Hands down your best level and that is saying something.

This is one of the best community levels I have ever played if not the best.

You know I'm hearting this.

Great work my friend!!

Hey there,

So as I start the level I first thought this was another Metroid level because of the doors. As I went on to the next room I was like , "Samus!?, Wait no, that's not her." So after the Metroid idea cleared my head I moved on. I loved the training it was fun. I loved the way you made the level terrain move. The first boss was fun and just a bit challenging. So I find the other cave and boy it sure felt hot. It was pretty confusing because it was pretty hard to see the platforms. The dark material of the platform blended in with the background. But, I could find my way through using your sticker placements. The rising lava was very fun and challenging. That was my favorite part. The way the level ended I assume that there is a sequel to this amazing level?

Your level got :star::star::star::star::star: and a Heart.

Thanks. I just work hard and try to think of good ideas to fit in one level.

Originally, it was going to be a metroid level, but I changed plans a bit... or maybe a lot...

The way the level ended I assume that there is a sequel to this amazing level?
Yes, there will be a part 2. Except, I won't work on it until I'm in the mood of creating another RPG level and thanks for enjoying the level.

What can I say, My life isn't so stressful most of the time. I got much time to build a cool level quickly.
Once you got the basics, you just need ideas.

Another great level Spark, how do you manage to turn out so many great levels so quickly?
It's not that hard, you just need time and ideas.

I can't believe I'm not thanked... I basicly invented the raising magma on PSP. Oh well.
This is another great level from you spark! I loved your take on a volcanic rise, you'll have to explain to me how your method of rising works, mine is a sensor circle that hovers above, but you obviously did something different, as your magma keeps going. Nice work on the level all in all, I don't have much criticism except I would have loved a more in-depth shooter approach. Great job!

GREAT level. Loved the open ended approach

2 thing I didn't like:

1. Ship reset switches - I'd just make them automatic(activated by sensor). Just make the radius quite big(most of the room except the part with the ship in it)

2. Moving checkpoint in lava section - Moves WAY too slow. I'm assuming its attached to the rising lava by a stiff rod? If so increase it's length, because when you die, it just drops you into the lava again, there's no time to escape it. If it's raised by piston though, just make it faster

I knew you would say something like that. Surprisingly, I found out you did this too.
I created the lava rising thing, then I played the Imaginenationthon and noticed that you did something like it too.
I would thank you, but I didn't know you did the lava rising thing until later. So sorry about that.

I loved your take on a volcanic rise, you'll have to explain to me how your method of rising works, mine is a sensor circle that hovers above, but you obviously did something different, as your magma keeps going.
I did it differently of coarse.
It's difficult to explain. First, you need a magnetic key and a magnetic key switch.
Put the magnetic key on a block. Put the magnetic key switch on another block.
Put a dissolve block on top of the magnetic key switch block. Put the magnetic key block on top of the dissolve block.
Once you access the a sensor switch, it'll make the dissolve dissappear. and bam, no the magnetic key and magnetic key switch are together.
I may explain this process in a tutorial level later.

Once again, thanks for playing!

PaddyJ:

1. Ship reset switches - I'd just make them automatic(activated by sensor). Just make the radius quite big(most of the room except the part with the ship in it)
I wonder if you actually tried this out. The ship resetting is confusing to do.
That's the best I can make it work.
Maybe if I find a better way to control them and I'll fix it later.

2. Moving checkpoint in lava section - Moves WAY too slow. I'm assuming its attached to the rising lava by a stiff rod? If so increase it's length, because when you die, it just drops you into the lava again, there's no time to escape it. If it's raised by piston though, just make it faster
No, I did not connect it by a rod, I actually had it connect by a winch to a separate piece of land.
As you notice, The checkpoint continues to rise while the lava stops after a while.
I don't want the checkpoint to be high because you can be able to ditch the lava flooding.

Anyways, thanks for enjoying my level

Hidy Ho Spark! I am so sorry that it took me so long to leave feedback, but seeing as I was out of town without my PSP, I think that I have a pretty good excuse ;-D

So, let's get down to business! When I read your description (RPG with platforming and puzzles!!!!) I got myself super hyped for the level, and even though I had planned to wait until tonight (it is late morning right now), I just HAD to play it now :-D

The level was a blast! Your dialog was great, the scenery was outstanding, your platforming was so much fun, and your puzzles were unique! Man, things were just executed so well with this level.

Though everything looked great, I especially liked how it looked when you got out onto the planet and you saw the stars in the background and the excellently crafted terrain. Man, this part made me smile simply because it looked sooo good!

The only scenery issue I had was when you get into the dark area with the lava. Before you get worried that something is wrong, let me tell you that I was playing in a bright room with a window beside me, so this probably won't be an issue for many people. Anyway, I had a hard time seeing the black platforms in front of the black background. It wasn't a big issue, I just struggled a teeny-tiny bit, but it never irritated me. In fact, I was impressed with just how dark that section looked

As for the dialog, it was executed perfectly, and I enjoyed every single bubble since it added to the unique story that you were telling. I did notice that near the start of the level, on of the bubbles is cut off and just ends with "r" as the last word. Since you level is performing so well, I don't know if you would be interested in fixing this or not, but I just wanted to let you know in case you had to republish for another reason. I really doubt that people would hold it against you since it is a bug with the game.

The platforming was a blast. I would almost say that your platforming and puzzles combine to make an awesome seamless level. Though you do take a break from the platforming to solve a puzzle or two, thew puzzles usually involve you platforming, so they sort of combine In the super dark section, I got to a sponge on a winch which had a grab switch on it, and the winch lowered SUPER slowly. I couldn't really tell what was going on, and I eventually just ran to the left. I'm guessing that if I hadn't been shining as much sun as possible on the screen then it would have been obvious, but why was the winch so slow? And what was going on there? Like I said, this is not an issue at all, I am just curious, and it is probably super obvious :-P

Oh, one more thing! The Lava Chase was a blast

That's all I've got! Awesome work Spark, you never cease to amaze!

I think I might actually have to fix this, but I didn't want to because it impressed me myself.

I noticed too and this problem made me mad. I actually looked to see what was the problem with the speech bubble.
I thought I forgot to finish the sentence, and I was goin to edit it.
It said "room", which was the cut off word. Why in the world would it show up in edit mode, but not play mode?
Anyways, I'm working on trying to fix this.

In the super dark section, I got to a sponge on a winch which had a grab switch on it, and the winch lowered SUPER slowly. I couldn't really tell what was going on, and I eventually just ran to the left. You actually made me laugh with this one.
You know when you were pulling the winch? Well it slowly pulls so the door can slowly open (on the left)
When you said you didn't know what was happening and you went left, well, if you hadn't pull that switch, the door to the left would have been close.
Hahah, well I hope you understand what happened there now.

Oh, one more thing! The Lava Chase was a blast
Thanks!

This may easily be your best level yet. Outstanding production values, incredible devices (like that fog visor), clever puzzles (that moving terrain thing), creative use of materials and stickers for beautiful landscapes & scenery... I also loved that custom lever, nice touch.

The lava part made me jealous. That's what I intended for the last part of my Shipwreck level, but I couldn't pull it off.

However, there were a couple of flaws:

-Use of arrow stickers. Unnecessary, and also ugly in an elaborate level like this.
-Like PaddyJ, the checkpoint of the lava part moves too slowly. Meaning that if you die, it's not a challenge anymore: it gets impossible.

Also, I think I met a bug... After defeating the tentacles monster, I was completely stuck. Nowhere to run. Some stones to the right looked like they should have moved to clear the path, but they were still, I couldn't get through. Or maybe I was supposed to go somewhere else I didn't see?

As for the dialog issue that you were looking into, all you need to do is mess around with adding a word to the sentence or deleting a word, or maybe just adding an extra punctuation mark. I had a big issue with this bug on Shallow Springs, but I could fix it by just adding or deleting words :-) I hope that that helps!2010-03-29 12:11:00

I fixed that, I added a few more space to go throught easily. I thought I wouldn't be able to fix this, but I did.

I am very, very sorry to everyone who came across this situation.
This was suppose to open a path, but it's not working.
Well at least sometimes it doesn't work.
I just deleted the level online because I didn't want someone to come across this either.
I'm working on the path, I think I might delete it.
Sorry to anybody who came across this once again

I really don't want this to be broken.

Don't you ever run out of awesome sauce?

Killer level here Spark. (Hmm, should I just make a shortcut key for that?) I didn't love Visiting the Canyons as much as I do I'd say Solid Journey was your best yet. It may still be your best level, actually, but that's a tough call.... A tie perhaps?

You've kind of come back to your roots with this level, so to speak, with the distinctly Metroid-flavored gameplay. The very best part of your level overall is the different environments you travel through - each area feels completely different from the one before it. The puzzles and platforming are ingenious and fun as always, and the sliding cave section is excellent. Everything in the caves is good, in fact, including the speech bubble you added to help the player get un-stuck from the small dead end area on the return trip to the lab. The lava chase/race is mind-blowingly cool and really nicely implemented. After completing the level the first time I immediately replayed it just to do the lava chase again. Great job with the stickers and the environment in that area in particular.

I don't have loads of complaints, but I'll throw a couple your way regardless. There isn't much of a story here, and although there doesn't really need to be I would have liked some slightly better reasons for venturing out, returning to the lab, and killing monsters. This isn't a necessity by any stretch, but it's the first thing that came to mind when I played this, so consider it a first impression minor point kind of thing. Once the player hits that incredible lava scene all will be forgiven. I had no problem with the tentacle monster at all and getting the door to open. I did have the tiniest problem hitting the eyeball on the tentacle on the back layer. The thin material that makes up the "eyeball" blocks Sackboy from switching layers to the rear. If you could have the creature brain peek out from behind the "eyeball" just the smallest amount that would solve the problem. That may compromise the looks though, and for what it's worth there really isn't any issue here at all. The last thing I noticed was in one of the longer speech bubbles towards the end of the level. In two different places in the speech bubble you say "were" when instead you meant to say "we're".

Great job again Spark, you never cease to amaze. 5 stars and a heart easily!

Hahah, it's fine. Each level I make, I try to make it better than the rest.

Have a good taste of each environment because you see new ones in my next level(s).... maybe....

That seems to be mostly everyone's favorite part. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

You're right, I didn't really work out the storyline. Maybe part two will explain things more clearer?

The thin material that makes up the "eyeball" blocks Sackboy from switching layers to the rear. If you could have the creature brain peek out from behind the "eyeball" just the smallest amount that would solve the problem.
Will work on this.

First off I loved this a lot more than I did your last level. I really felt this one flowed so much better and just had better scenery and gameplay. Now one of my favorite parts was when you were about to end the level and opened up a tunnel for it to be even longer. I felt it had great length with my playthrough clocking in at about 10 minutes. There was one issue I found is that in the rising lava section it is actually possible to go inside it the middle of the lava and get stuck. Other than that it was a fantastic level. I gave it 5 stars and a heart.2010-03-31 08:00:00

Also I noticed that you thanked me. Your welcome. It's nice to hear that my work can actually be inspiring to such a skilled creator as you. :b2010-04-01 00:45:00

Hey Spark151!

Very good level, I’m impressed with each area. You made an excellent job with the art style throughout, the mechanisms were very amazing, I really liked, my favorite part was when you have to go up above evading the lava, also when you have to shoot in the spaceship, excellent level, I gave you 5 stars and hearted as a creator, because I like your others levels.

Yes, your level inspired me to add the volcano area to the map. With out you, this area of the level wouldn't exist. :

It's be awesome if you got a chance to see the mechanisms because they are all over the map

my favorite part was when you have to go up above evading the lava
Isn't that everybody's favorite part?

New changes to the level.
The lava chase is fixed. (Because you could fall directly inside the lava without dieing)
Speech bubble fixed, like Taffey mentioned.
Made eye thinner by a little bit. Like Taffey mentioned.
I think I fixed something else... Anyways there shouldn't be more problems.
MAJOR UPGRADE This is an apology for republishing the level 3 times so far.
I added an extra part to the level. (Meet a new guy, "Virus")

By the way, these changes were made like 10 hours ago, but I didn't bother to post them now.
So, Spok22 and memorex, you two probably played the new version.
While others are missing out!

Hey Spark,

Congratulations on your fourth Spotlight! I don't know how you manage to crank up so many quality levels in a short amount of time, but I'm glad everyone can amply enjoy your creativity. Anyways, I was so happy you returned to the Metroid-esque style of your earlier levels, but this one felt more wholesome than the actual levels in the Metroid series. You successfully merged breathtaking scenery with revolutionary gameplay, and I had fun from start to finish. Great job, and please continue to crank up more levels!

Well, I can't believe it took me so long to actually play this level, and what a level it is!

I really liked the characters and the dialogue, it actually makes you feel like part of the team. The training section at the beginning was nice and didn't take too long so that you were able to get into the action pretty quickly. I played this level twice yesterday and already I can't remember all of your puzzles, but the circular rock ramps were awesome, and I really liked the rising lava challenge as well.

I kind of feel like this is a sort of spiritual successor to your Metroid level, but worked into a more original theme and with more engageing enemies and puzzles.

You also have some really nice environments here. However - and I only really mention this because it seems like the done thing to throw a couple of bits of criticism into some feedback - there are points where the detail in the environment drops a bit. That said I can understand why this must be, because you managed to squeeze a very decent length out of the thermo.

Overall, then, I think you've done a really great job on this level. The dialogue, characters and gameplay challenges are all very well balanced to create a very satisfying end product.

The changes you made, made the level just that much better. I'm glad you changed the material for the cave, so I can see the platforms a bit better. And also thanks for making the eyes easier to pop.2010-04-22 09:14:00

Sorry Spark that I haven't given you feedback yet i've been pretty busy. Anyways I just played the level and it's AMAZING!
First of all the material choice and corner editing is superb, as I was playing I was admiring the awesome visuals. At the start of the level when you have to do the testing, it reminded of the start of Halo. Where you have to do visor testing and all that extra stuff. The level was great fun visiting different caves and the race at the end gave the level more suspense. The level had a great length and is (one word) BRILLIANT. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3. Another great level from you, WELL DONE.

[EDIT: OOPS! I thought that I was posting on Flat Down Journey I've already given feedback on Solid Journey]

Wow, it looks like you have had two major updates, so I guess it paid off that it took me a while to play this, but I'm still sorry that it took me a few days to play I've already VM'd you about it so I won't go into it anymore.

So, about this level...

This level is great. It was great how it started with a short sort of tutorial just like the prequel did, and there were some ingenious ideas that you had. It really got me into the level right off the bat. By the time I got outside to the sandy planet, I was deep into the experience.

As always, you have excelled with scenery and proved why you are known as one of the best authors with scenery. Everything from character models to environments looked great.

The challenges were great as well. It was a blast running from section to section to pull switches and open new areas. It was all straightforward and fun and I never got confused or irritated. I loved the room with the 4 rotating circles, and the key card area was great as well.

I really don't have any complaints. Seeing as you have made the two major updates, I would guess that you have fixed any issues that I would have experienced.

Awesome work Spark!
