My helicopter woes

Archive: 9 posts

First post, here goes.

I am trying to make a on-rails helicopter (like the one at the start of the advanced logic pack).

My first attempt was a piece of dark matter attached to a smal, horizonatal square of wood via piston which is then attached to my helicopter. The main problem was the wooden block sunk due to the helicopter's weight.

So, I tried getting dark matter attaching it to a glass block which pushed another block down a track which was connected via two winches to the helicopter. It started moving down the track by itself.

So, I tried attaching peach floaty to the block. But that made the block fly through the tracks destroying itself in the process.

If anyone has any ideas aout how I ould make this work (more winches) or better yet one of the logic pack creators sho me their helicpter It would help loads.

Simply make the block out of stone or metal and make it HUGE.2010-03-26 22:44:00

Make lots of pistons, the more pistons you make, the more weight it will hold. Oh and of course make them stiff, and invisible. 2010-03-26 22:58:00

There's a weird problem with attaching pistons to small materials, just make that block of wood you mentioned larger, and perhaps change it to metal, pistons are a lot stronger that way. Like Chamion B recommended.2010-03-26 23:35:00

Instead of wood, use PINK floaty (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24072-Floaty-Rail-Stability-System-%28for-mechs-ships-sharks-bombs-whatever!%29) (not peach) and make it big. Use two pistons side by side to connect it to the dark matter, or use one piston and one zero strength spring. Then use two pistons or the piston/spring combo to connect the pink floaty to the helicopter.

The strength of connectors depends on the mass of the objects they connect (which is wierd, but eh). Since the cornerstone (your block of wood that I said to make floaty) ties everything together, it's the part that needs the most mass (I think the dark matter anchor's size doesn't matter, but I've never tested to be sure).

Yeah, you could make a space level like this. Or a submarine level or whatever. If you want to see an example of a space level with ships that use this kind of cornerstone, check out my level "Starfighter." (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=21545-Flying-spaceship-with-near-perfect-control-Starfighter) It's pretty short and a little buggy sometimes because the thermometer hates me, but I still think it's pretty decent and at the end of the level, you get a key to a prize level that gives you the ships and explains how to set them up. You can also check out Gevurah22's Gundam level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23948-SD-Gundam-Zaku-Assault-%28Intense-Arcade-Shooter-Action!%29): the gundam you drive uses a more refined version of the stabilizer, but you have to freakin' rock at the level to get it as a prize, so you probably won't get the chance to examine it in create mode.2010-03-29 11:36:00
