20 - 23 Days to Go... So, why do you love LBP?

Archive: 16 posts

Release is nearly - finally - upon us... So I thought it would be kinda cool to compile some thoughts as to why we all love this game so much without even playing it (those of us without the beta at least...). Be it due to a general gaming reason or something deeper, please post it... Should pass some time to release anyway!

For me, apart from the obvious gameplay and creation draws, I love this game so much because it brings me back to my childhood days where I would sit in my Nan & Grandad's garden playing with various pieces of wood and other materials and create literally anything - be it little cars, animals, race tracks... The list goes on. I can't wait to play this game and continue where those play sessions left off; my imagination has grown, and I'd like to see where it can take me all these years later

Create! I'd like to think I'm very creative and I love the idea of making levels and sharing them with the world.2008-10-01 21:04:00

Help show the LBP community why I love Bob Marley, and LBP seems like a good game to relieave stress and stuff, it'll probably be very addiciting so I'll miss a lot of the college, nfl, and nhl games. :o2008-10-01 23:34:00

The multiplayer tied with the create aspect makes this game look very attractive to me, because it doesn't really ever end.2008-10-02 00:00:00

I like to mess around with games' physics. I like more of the free roaming type games (although it isn't completely free roam)2008-10-03 01:45:00

I want to finally start my machinima group and the create feature of LBP caught my eye. It also looks like a great game to play to release the stresses of school and daily life in general.

Plus Sackboy is AWESOME!!!!!!!!

It's easy to get into and have a great experience without having to sit there for hours. I love Metal Gear Solid 4, but if I sit down to play it then I'm there for 2 or 3 hours, and I just don't have that time on weeknights.

The competitive co-op is such a cool idea and I love that I can play with my brother who is over 2000 miles away and create levels with him and stuff.

Plus, the fact that the gameplay is nearly unlimited with people making levels all the time and the ability to make my own seems unprecedented because it's so easy compared to map editors for games like Starcraft back in the day.

I've played many games with level editors and user-created content (like the excellent Armadillo Run (http://www.armadillorun.com/)), but the community has always been quite small-scale and/or seemed to run out of steam. The scale of the LBP release and the finesse of the finished product combined with the apparent ease-of-use, online co-operation and all the excitement seems to promise undending content. People will be making stuff for LBP for a long time!

The capacity for expansion will keep Mm in business for a long time too, which is good becuase they'll release expansion packs and downloadables for as long as it pays. If the post-release content they make is worth it, people will keep buying it and the game will get bigger and bigger. But even without buying expansions, there will constantly be new levels built by players all over the world.

And I'm really looking forward to running around LittleBIGPlanet levels with crowds of you excellent folks online, slapping stickers on your backs and deelyboppers on your heads and giving your skateboards a boost and piloting rockets with you and playing on see-saws and roundabouts and slides and and and and and...

I'm looking forward to the game being released because then all the whining about not getting a beta key and a post for each day of the countdown asking what we're looking forward to is all getting rather tiring and clogs up the boards.

ADDED: Just to clarify I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm because I'm just as keen to get my hands on the game, but I would also like to come to a forum which is orderly and full of great ideas, not full of duplicate or near duplicate posts all asking the same questions.

A better title for this thread would have just said "Not long now....So, why do you love LBP?" This keeps the discussion going without making the thread seem redundant as soon as the time period in the title is past.

Man, this is a loaded topic. There are so many reasons so I'll just keep it simple. For starters, this game is a refreshing change of pace from the types of games I usually play. Shooters. I'm naturally competitive so I'm drawn to those types of games. I'm also, like many of us here, an artist in one form or another in real life. This game directly appeals to us.

I've also had some great moments in just the beta! Playing all these user generated levels has been a blast. Even the levels some people wouldn't play. I refuse to be beat by a level that lacks respawn points. That will lead to loads of fun if you've got some buddies who will run through these levels with you. I've also seen some amazing creations and monsters. Amazing stuff.

Greatest moment. Falling down to a lower level that sat above a flaming death but barely catching the sponge corner. I would have been alright if my buddies hadn't caught my leg on their way down and refused to let go. After about 5 minutes of laughing and trying to shake them off we all went down. Made me laugh just writing it.
