Yep. Quite possibly the greatest TV series ever made.

VERY awesome. Yes. and it's themes of what makes humans humans resonates.

And stuff. Yeah. I know a lot of people probably like it since it seems to be the geek's holy grail... and for good reason. This is smart sci-fi. And may be one of the most beautiful stories ever. Or something. Yeah.

... /cough

Anyway, I'm currently on Season 3 for the first time XD. I just finished the boxing episode on disc three... yeah. I'm told it gets even better ;o

Anyway... so I'm not done yet, and I wanted to wait till I was done till I made this thread.. but I thought me, whatever.

So... no spoilers? D: /runs

When it was on, I was its prophet, may just be my favorite all-time series... it was very good. So you enjoy Rock. Interesting tidbit, I've yet to see the final season... couldn't get myself to bring it all to a close... so for me, there out there still, like constellations in the evening sky.2010-03-25 05:06:00

I know, I know... it was a one of a kind show! As for the original, I loved it when I was what like 13? Think it was on Sunday nites after bath-time... my brother and I used to pretend the folks recliners were Vipers! But my recollection is best served by the little boy in me... the adult couldn't be bothered by that expensive but wholly unoriginal show. And even the boy in me wasn't sold on that darn Moppet/dog. But boy did I love those ships-- Vipers, Raiders, and that botanical beauty... The Argos? Maybe? Still, a far cry from what I considered the best series on TV.2010-03-31 22:49:00

Let me just say... You MUST see the final season. Do you mean all of season 4, or just 4.5?

Either way, just finished the season finale of 4.0...

they found Earth! DUN DUN DUN

... yes... :kz:

I got into this show relatively late (during season 2 or 3 I think) and I found it was really good with layered characters and a complex plot, though truth be told I (like a lot of people) really didn't like how they wrapped everything up. I won't really spoil anything but I'll just say in the end they had way too much plot points to wrap up and not enough time to do so in a satisfying way.

On that note, I've been watching Caprica. Depending on how it goes it might have a hard time fitting in with BSG's continuity, though so far it's been pretty good but it does go in a different direction then BSG did. A lot of the characters aren't very likeable (in particular, I find Zoe to be rather irritating), but they're obviously very flawed and I get the feeling that the writers don't mean for them to be especially (though still a little) sympathetic. So that's okay

Yeah, I just can't get enough of this, so I thought I might as well necro this and see if I can get a few more people to witness the most awesome story ever told. So yeah. Watch it. It is beautiful. ;-;

BSG is good, great even, but it isn't "smart sci-fi". It's really just a good drama set in space. There's very little science, and the writers appear to make a very conscious decision to ignore resolving the details of the situation. There's a lot they never address when in terms of their supplies. Oh, and the last season is TERRIBLE (and that's all I'll say about to avoid spoilers).

But yes, it's rollicking good fun and all the "artsy" parts of it are well done (camerawork, direction, characters, acting, etc.). But then, why expect good science from a show whose basic premise originally was "the Bible in Space."

If you liked BSG and can't get enough, after Caprica you might try Stargate: Universe. It's basically the Stargate franchise's attempt to cash in on the BSG formula. Of course, it doesn't hold a candle to Stargate: SG-1, but who's tallying.

Other good sci-fi series include Star Trek: Next Generation, Firefly (cowboys in space!), and (arguably, and trust me, people DO argue about this) Babylon 5.

But if I have to leave this thread with just one single recommendation to potential sci-fi lovers, it's to watch The Man from Earth. It's a fantastic science fiction movie, don't let its low budget fool you.

EDIT:
Also, has anyone here played the BSG boardgame? It's pretty awesome with the right group.

I watched the 3 hour long 'pilot' film thing yesterday, It was amazing.

My bro's reccommened it to me because we've been watching a lot of stargate universe, and the way that is recorded is very thematically similar.

I NEED the ?57 4 season box set of BSG from amazon! :O

Anyone seen Caprica? It's the prequel to Battle Star Galactica. But, it hasn't been renewed for a second season, unfortunately.2010-11-18 18:28:00
