3d effects without special glasses. Let me guess, 2 screens and you go all corss-eyed to get the wol magic eye effect going on. So mobile 3D effects all ofr the small price of regular migraines and the occasional aneurysm? No, really, how do you achieve stereoscopic effects without special glasses | 2010-03-23 10:16:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Considering Nintendos track record in the handheld market why bother getting this new 3DS when there's inevitably going to be a better designed version released 1-2 years after. | 2010-03-23 10:17:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
The DSI can already do a 3dish effect though using manipulation of the camera. I'm sorry nintendo but i'm happy with the DSlite... Well until Monster hunter gets meto buy a wii. | 2010-03-23 10:32:00 Author: robotiod Posts: 2662 |
No, really, how do you achieve stereoscopic effects without special glasses Uh, there's tons of tech that hasn't been mass marketed as of yet to do such a thing. Heck, even Sony is working on something similar, although not necessarily in the same gaming space. It's all about the screens man. Aside from the Virtual Boy, Nintendo's current leadership wouldn't go forward with this unless it actually worked. | 2010-03-23 17:06:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
But that doesn't answer my question now, does it? In honesty, I'm just really cynical about the whole small screen (i.e. home TV and smaller) 3d phenomenon that's just around the corner - it's all just a big gimmic and mostly technology for technology's sake. But that's what people buy into, so it's not at all surprising that that's the way things are going. | 2010-03-23 17:21:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
But that doesn't answer my question now, does it? I did say it's all about the screens now, didn't I? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzRq7GhBLRQ And also this... http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/nintendo-3ds-to-come-with-3d-control-stick-vibration-and-sha/ You had the hard news for breakfast, so how's about some less official, but still pretty robust, fodder for brunch? Asahi in Japan offers the first word on how the 3DS achieves its 3D-ness by suggesting that the new portable game machine with feature a parallax barrier LCD from Sharp. The tech has apparently already been deployed in a few cellphones over there and is described as "unsuitable" for large-screen TVs. This is corroborated by Nikkei, which suggests that the screens on the new device will be smaller than 4 inches diagonally, placing it closer to the DSi than the 4.2-inch DSi XL / LL. Other news from the latter source include so-called 3D control stick(s), though it's not entirely clear whether this'll be anything massively new or just a pair of analog nubs for us to push around. Either way, Nintendo is said to have secured patents for the new control methodology in Japan late last year. The Nikkei article also mentions improvements in WiFi transfers and battery life, as well as a new vibration function. Now that we've got all that out of the way, can someone please tell us if this thing has Tegra inside or not? In all honesty, I could care less about 3D. But as long as I don't have to wear glasses, that's one less barrier for me to enjoy it. | 2010-03-23 17:28:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
It's technically not a new DS, it's the next console, like what the original DS was to the GBA. But I don't want it. At least not until they stop releasing games I want on the DS, thus forcing me to buy a 3DS. | 2010-03-23 18:35:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |

I really hope they a Zelda Wind Waker style and omg 0_o Mario galaxy 3D most of my fav DS game are 2D or RPG's so they no point in them being 3D so..... yeah but still sound cool | 2010-03-23 21:03:00 Author: jump_button Posts: 1014 |
This is the next-gen for handhelds, not like the DSi and DSlite. I accually still play on the first DS. The DSlite and DSi isn't so much different from the original console, so I can't see why to buy them. They don't force you people to buy the DSlite and DSi, as they still play the same games. But this new 3DS one is totally new. I'm definitely going to buy it. Nintendo is great. | 2010-03-23 21:13:00 Author: ghik16 Posts: 311 |
The money printer seems useful. I'll have to borrow my friend's so I can use it to buy my own! ...Seriously though, if it's absolutely real, I'll buy it. Probably. As long as they don't make the same mistake they made with the Wii and DS... (Mostly, the "kid friendly" Wi-Fi even on T-M rated games...) Plus, better graphics wouldn't hurt... When I play Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, it actually makes my eyes feel weird... | 2010-03-23 21:17:00 Author: KlawwTheClown Posts: 1106 |

I'd like to say I'm not interested, as I still have the first clunky DS, but I'm really excited about what they're doing with 3-D. | 2010-03-24 03:41:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
I think it's really cool, I heard that it has a built in accelerometer so it probably uses that plus some kind of head tracking technology to change the perspective in the screen. | 2010-03-24 04:08:00 Author: shebhnt Posts: 414 |
one thing i can think about is... How long until monkey ball 3DS? | 2010-03-25 15:14:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
I would rather see a new Monkeyball on the PS3...>: Using either the Sixaxis or the new PS Move...would better in my opinion. The Monkeyballs on the PS2 (I think...I can't remember) and Xbox (I had it ) were awesome! Now imagine it with even nicer graphics in full HD, better gameplay, proper online multiplayer, all the trimmings and amazing core gameplay...would be better than the Wii's one! | 2010-03-25 15:25:00 Author: FuzzballFox Posts: 217 |
Wow, a 3D DS. Who doesn't want to see crappy graphics in 3D? | 2010-03-26 01:20:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Well, this already should make for a more interesting E3 than we've seen in a few years. I'll be very interested to see how this looks. I wonder if we'll be able to get a good idea of how the 3D effect works just through videos online? Sounds like something you might have to try out. Either way, I just hope they find some really innovative ways to implement it. If there are some really novel, fun concepts that work great as games that fundamentally use the 3D effect, I'll be very excited. | 2010-03-26 08:42:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

they best let us have VC games on it as well adding GB and GBA games to the VC | 2010-03-26 15:52:00 Author: jump_button Posts: 1014 |
Wow, a 3D DS. Who doesn't want to see crappy graphics in 3D? I don't. It will probably make my eyeballs fall out lol | 2010-04-01 22:06:00 Author: Shockwave4 Posts: 200 |
I think it's really cool, I heard that it has a built in accelerometer so it probably uses that plus some kind of head tracking technology to change the perspective in the screen. My guess is that you've got it. The handy thing about a DS is that only one person is going to be playing on a single system at any given time. So if you throw a little camera there that's able to track the player's position and use the accelerometer movement to adjust the angle, you can create a working 3D effect for the single gamer playing it. But the problem then is, do you always have to ensure that your head is X distance from DS, at X angle, more or less? I know I've had some nights in bed where I've just stuck my DS pretty much on my chest and folded the top screen to 90 degrees to play. Not sure if that would be particularly conducive to a working 3D display... I'll be curious, if this is the tech they're going for, how it's going to work in some of the lazier, or more awkward positions that gamers sometimes play handheld games in. | 2010-04-02 03:55:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
As a fan of nintendo since I owned the Super NES, I'll be looking forward for this one. Same goes with the next PSP if Sony plans it. We'll find out more when E3 arrives this year. | 2010-04-03 01:19:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
