Do you create the same type of levels you love to play? Or do you create levels you love to create, but don't really love playing? I have heard from many of my fellow musicians that they are inspired by country but play punk because its fun or vice versa. So, what do you create, and what do you play, and are they the same?? | 2010-03-23 01:07:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
Do you create the same type of levels you love to play? Or do you create levels you love to create, but don't really love playing? I have heard from many of my fellow musicians that they are inspired by country but play punk because its fun or vice versa. So, what do you create, and what do you play, and are they the same?? I create and play a variety of levels. Sometimes I'll create a more action oriented level and sometimes I'll create a slower and more methodical level, it really depends on what I feel like creating. Same goes for playing, sometimes a heavy action level is fun and sometimes an adventure level is enjoyable. Also, I usually enjoy playing what I create. | 2010-03-23 01:54:00 Author: Silverpanther Posts: 156 |
See, im different, i enjoy long complex adventure type levels with an involved plotline, and characters. Lots of secrets and replay value. But the action quick jump levels dont appeal to me, i mean there are good ones, but story levels are what i generally play, and create. | 2010-03-23 02:09:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
Hmmm.... how about a third one? I create the type of levels I'm good at creating. I figure there are plenty of people who are far better than me at visuals and platforming, so I've always tried to stick with unique gameplay. | 2010-03-23 02:37:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I love inventing, that's why I tend to TRY to make levels at least. | 2010-03-23 04:13:00 Author: FreeFlyzz Posts: 265 |
This a good time for such a thread for me! I think it's clear from my levels that I try to create mechanical based platformers with lots of cool contraptions. I've always tried to create levels that everyone can complete and enjoy regardless of ability. As for levels I love to play. I'm a sucker for a challenging platformer with lots of high scorey goodness! (Hence my love for OH NO!!!). I think I always tried to create levels for everyone simply because I knew that would appeal to the majority and it would ensure that all my hard work would be seen by as many people as possible. Since I've been in the game long enough to establish myself now, and I'm more comfortably creating whatever I want, you will soon be willing a rather challenging platformer from myself I'm about 80% through it and I'm absolutely loving it up to now | 2010-03-23 05:31:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
sweet stuff jack 1. im looking forward to it. your levels make my mind work, and have been a constant inspiration throughout Mythicos 4. once its out, you may see the connection your levels have with this monster project. | 2010-03-23 06:19:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
I enjoy levels with unique gameplay, outstanding visuals, and/or large amounts of exploration/replayability. But, if a level has mediocre graphics, even if it's a blast to play, I'll quit halfway through - I've done it, too; couldn't stand seeing any more lopsided chunks of floating dark matter :/ As for what I create - I love creating highly complex logic/physics, especially when it results in unique gameplay. The plant boss from Splat in the Night was ridiculous (fun) to set up, the Pinball Wizzard dragon + hp bar took longer to create than the rest of the level combined (true story), and getting the Top Down Gear car to work AT ALL, let alone remotely playable-bly... with playableness? Whatever. Nightmares. Joyous nightmares. I like it when my creations fight back; it's even more fun, then, to subdue them and bend them to my will. Evil laughter. And I hold my levels to the same standards as other levels - if they're not pretty, they're not worth publishing. I've gotten (a lot!) better at prettifying, but even my first level has a decent amount of ambiance to it, even if it does kinda suck compared to my current abilities. D: So I guess I like to play exactly the kind of levels I create, and I'm decent at creating them. Joy! | 2010-03-23 06:52:00 Author: Loius Posts: 342 |
I love inventing, that's why I tend to TRY to make levels at least. I guess I'm very much like this, I've created countless objects and things but have not yet published a level. The problem I have is I constantly get sidetracked. I like playing and creating anything and everything really (execpt for race levels where all you do is hold R1 the whole time). I did try making a series of levels once and made about half of one level but my skills just kept improving and I wanted to do better so I just had to scrap it since it kept going round in circles. I want to try and make the series one day though. | 2010-03-23 08:19:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |
I create what I play. Platformers and costume levels. I don't see why anyone would create something they don't like to play. Why go though all that effort if you're not even going to play it yourself? | 2010-03-23 21:35:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
I love platforming so I try to make platforming levels, I'm no good at costumes, puzzles or races | 2010-03-23 21:38:00 Author: Unknown User |
Backgrounds (3D) thats my specialty i love making kick butt visuals, i get inspired by anything. | 2010-03-23 22:11:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |
Right now I am more focused on just getting good at creating fun gameplay and then I am going to work on really spicing up my visuals. I enjoy playing any level that is fun. If it's exploring, platforming, or even a bomb survival (gasp) as long as I have a fun time playing it I don't care what it is. | 2010-03-23 22:50:00 Author: shebhnt Posts: 414 |

I spent ages trying to get to the shower only to find it was just a donkey . Has my house mate been slipping LSD in my drink again or does it really say that...? | 2010-03-23 23:38:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |

thats the most fulfilling way of creating. create for yourself, and let like minded players gather and bask in the glory. BASK I SAY! | 2010-03-24 01:02:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
