The Portentous Paean of Peter Picaroon (now playable![?])

Archive: 12 posts

I've been working on a level for a while now, poorly and slowly because I'm a noob. It's a rather generic high-seas adventure pirate shenanigans level as of now but a) it's not done at all yet and b) I can do what I want, and I like pirates.
pardon the poor image quality.

I know that because I'm new, it will be hard to gather interest in this, but I'm enjoying the work a lot. I will update this as I put together challenge themes/story etc.

I'd like to think my opening is pretty cool so far but I'll leave that for you to see when I actually release this.

I so far have 1 2x challenge so I need to remember to keep this MP friendly. Fortunately I have a brother who doesn't mind helping me test stuff.

Thoughts/ideas/anyone want to help or anything? As of now I can only use this small, horrible SDTV so the brightness and contrast may be toootalllyyy whack and I don't know which way to fix it.

help with stickers/decor would also be appreciated as i haven't really started on that yet

Settled on a title! Inspired by ElGuero's charming level names, admittedly.

It looks nice!

You may be against it, but I suggest adding a background or at least experimenting with different backgrounds, but then again, they might not suit your level.

oh yeah, i experimented with the monster cave background... i loooved the rock formations but hated the mushrooms i was gonna try my hand at making my own but i'm more concerned with the important bits at the moment.2010-03-23 04:20:00

sweet, i have a score board and everything now!

i'm planning on making this into a series, i have a good story thought out. involving pirates. and stealing. and civil action. and wheelchair action.

I'm trying to decide whether to keep this short level as it is and just make it look real spiffy, add in secrets and such, or if I should continue with the story...

my thoughts exactly.

i think i'm gonna keep this one pretty short.

and yet, i still have pacing issues...
need to incorporate more story into the platforming.

Really like the pirate in the wheelchair, its well made and pretty funny. Is he able to move? It would be pretty cool if he followed you around for awhile, helping you out by holding a flashlight or giving hints or something else.2010-03-27 02:54:00

well, the wheels are bolted so I guess it is potentially mobile. he'll come into play more in later levels though. and the flashlight idea is really good, i'll be sure to try that!2010-03-27 04:15:00
