Just hatched!Syroc
.
I've actually released this level two month ago without much advertising to see how many plays it would get (not many), but now I'm curious what you lot think about it. It's only about as long as the song Get It Together from the Go! Team is in LBP and takes you through some rather simple platforming sections. Well, jumping and bouncing is pretty much the only game mechanic used, there are no puzzles but a few hidden bubbles and a two player section.

Give it a go, if you don't anything else to play.

I played it ages ago. It was a tad basic, but I'm guessing it's for beginners? You used the POTC ship, I'd go custom with it.2010-03-21 13:56:00

What ship? There is no ship in that level. In fact there isn't even water.2010-03-21 14:12:00

Syroc - I played this last night twice and loved it! Yes it's simplistic, but imho it's really well done. The lift that grew out of the ground was a refreshing idea. In fact, the whole level was refreshing. I'm happy to report that I have the high score, at least for now. It should be easily beaten as I died quite a few times trying to find all of your secrets

Thumbs up from adi! Its nice to see accomplished creators like yourself sometimes returning to do something a little simpler. I think I might follow your example 2010-03-24 16:38:00

That's what I tried to build; a level that is fun without being overly intricate.

I was sad to see a noob steal it as you left it copyable. You may never have known but your level is on page 2 with about 6000 plays. Published under "punkyjoyjoker".2010-03-25 20:36:00

God, the least these people can do is credit me. It's all I expect from them.

Let's all upload naughty pictures on it, then report it. That'll teach the noob not to steal!

This is now on my list of "Levels to play when I get back on my PS3".

No, I made it copyable by choice. As long as get credited I don't mind them republishing the levels.2010-03-25 22:04:00

I just played your version and good grief'd the copy. I know you don't have a problem with someone publishing, but they didn't give credit, so SEE YA!2010-03-25 22:13:00

If you're worried about not getting credit you shouldn't make it copyable in the first place!2010-03-25 22:33:00

Still don't see why you would offer someone the chance to take your level for themselves.2010-03-25 23:56:00

Because I can, basically.

I don't gain anything from getting plays and hearts. Nor do I lose anything if someone copies my levels after it has been available under my name only for month.
I ask everyone who republishes a level of mine to show some decency and credit me. I even made it easier for them and included a "Made by Syroc" in the description. The person who copied Japanese Garden did the right thing and gave me credit after I asked him to do so. Whether the guy who copied this level will do the same I do not know. I've send him a message asking him to be so kind. We'll see what happens.
I realize many people who play these copies even when I get credited in the description don't know that I made, but that's okay. I still regard these levels as my own (so strictly speaking I never owned them, I guess) and like that there are people who enjoy my levels.

It also shows how utterly broken the cool level pages are, but that's a different matter. ^.^

What I do wonder though, what happens if the copied level gets reported and consequently deleted? I seem to remember that after the recent change in the moderation policy that not only the offending level gets deleted but also other levels in which collectable objects from the reported level were used. If that also applies to whole levels it might be gone soon.
On the bright side, if that happens it shouldn't a problem for MM set up a system that the original creators get automatically credited.

I'm sorry Syroc but I think you're deluded if you think making a level copyable is a good thing. Most people copying a level are doing it simply to republish as their own to save them doing any work whatsoever and simply use it to spam the cool levels and get noticed.

Making levels copyable is the 1 major thing that is ruining LBP. Think about it: If some total idiot hadn't made a bomb survival level copyable in the first place they wouldn't have been the blight on LBP that they are and have been for months. The same goes for shark/hotel/train and god knows what else rubbish survival.

99% of those levels wouldn't be there now if some arsehole hadn't made one and then made it copyable in the first place because those people who have copied it and spammed it like crazy wouldn't have had the first clue how to actually make one themselves.

I can only assume that there are 1 of 2 reasons for that having happened :

1) The creator who first did it was either stupidly naive or just plain stupid or even worse they knew what mayhem it would cause and wanted to ruin LBP for some weird reason.
OR
2) They were made by someone working for Mm to a set agenda because they knew full well that it would cause a massive increase in levels published and they didn't care whether they were good or bad as long as the numbers went up.

Either way it was a very very bad thing for the real creators like me who always try to do something original and put in lots of effort on every creation only to get no recognition at all because we're swamped by all the trash, 99% of which are copied levels.

That's a fair point you make there Mr. V but I don't think I would go as far as saying it's bad in all cases. I do not pretend that my levels are very good (in fact I think that version of Japanese Garden is a bit rubbish...) but I think levels of this kind are the lesser evil. They at least show that there is more to LBP than bomb survivals and maybe (and this is likely to be very naive) encourage some people to at least search for good levels.

I fully understand that many probably don't approve of me making my levels copyable. I accept that, but the ability to share your levels is after all part of the game, just like the republishing trick. Whether MM foresaw the problems that may arise from it or not. (Evidently not otherwise we would have automatic crediting and a "Copy-but-don't-republish" option by now.)

Man, I wish someone uploaded pictures for me! But anyway, I really like the level. But, there's one thing I need to say. When you are on the zipline area, when I "accidentally " fell to see if there's any bugs, and there are. In matter of fact, a big one. When I fell, I didn't die, I just fell to the bottem of the map, still alive. Sorry to bring the bad news on you, but that be easy to fix. So I just wanted to state that. But overall, I like the level

I gave it :star::star::star::star::star:
