A Sackmare on Elmstreet 2010

A Sackmare on Elmstreet 2010freddykrugerfred
The ultimate warming up to the new movie coming out april 2010. This level was made by a fan , for fans and has the most detailed Freddy settings ever in any LBP level around Freddy.
In the past one of my first user made levels was A nightmare on sackstreet. The level did pretty well and had a decent amount of plays and ratings. Since that time my skills grew in the game and so I decided that with the upcoming new movie it was a time to do a remake of my first level, just like the new movie.

I put A LOT of details in this level, and even photo realistically rebuilt the house of Freddy. I actually used stills from the original Elm street movie to recreate the most famous scenes.

Fans will surely recognize the dark alley scene, the bedroom murder, the bathtub scene, the boiler room scenes and so on.

While the focus was more on cutscenes and graphical design, I did incorporate some nice gameplay scenes in between the famous scenes. There's a chase sequence in the alley just like in the movie (real fans will even notice that all the background almost identically matches the movie's!), there's some boiler room gameplay avoiding pits, hot steam and jumping over fiery rolls.

Anyway, I really put a lot of effort into this and would appreciate some nice comments (if possible of fans like myself).

One small thingy: when underwater, you just have to grab the sponge like thingy at the bottom to bring the water level down again and go into the boiler room scene. It's noticeable, but just a quick hint :-)

Hope you enjoy !

Ps1: I even created the logo on the level's button myself and added sound effects similar to the movie
Ps2: I have taken pictures and will add them shortly

I deliberately left out the beautiful cutscene pictures because that would ruin the wow effect :-)

If this level gets some decent ratings I will make a small epilogue part with the conclusion of the story (the battle against freddy in the boiler room, the battle in the house and the conclusion)2010-03-20 14:36:00

Sorry, but i think you hyped this level up way too much. I was pretty disappointed right after that house in your pic, which is the best looking thing in the level imo. The platforming was dull and seemed to be thrown in for the hell of it. The background you claim to look like its from the movie.....is just a brick wall. Your whole post about this level is just about a lie. Sorry for being harsh, im just tellin it like it is

I gave 3 stars for effort

As a fan of the series, I can appreciate that work that you have done here. However, the level itself is lacking... First the level needs music...i know that in the beginning you were trying to create a certain mood, but I felt that once you entered the "dream world" or boiler room, you could have added music to keep the level interesting. I agree with the above post...(who was kinda harsh but hey...you did sign up for feedback). Saying that your post was lying I think is kinda inaccurate...but hey...you sold your level to me...which is why I played it. 3 stars and a creepy tag. Thanks2010-03-21 02:00:00

Are you serious? well, thanks anyway for the feedback. :s

The brick wall is pretty logic because in the movie the whole chase sequence is in a dark alley! There's one fence which I recreated, there's some garbage bins which I recreated and there's the wooden door alley way where you go into the garden which is recreated.

Furthermore, there is plenty of different scenery with the house, the alley, the bedroom scene, the bathroom, the boiler room.

and you forgot to mention the cutscenes, especially the great one in the bathtub :s

Like I mentioned, I cannot add more or better platforming things here because that would be unrealistic and not fitting for a freddy movie imho. In my original I also kept things simple enough so anyone could play the level so I don't think it's that much a problem since I want everyone to play this to see the movie scenes.

I dare you find another freddy level with more detailed settings as mine almost blew up the thermometer already.

Best regards

thanks friend! You are right about adding some more music, I will add that in the boiler room scenes.

And indeed I never intended to lie about my post, I did try my very best to recreate famous movie scenes and settings and when you compare with the movie you cannot miss the fact that I did have matching scenery (in a lbp way of course, adding all furniture would make the thermometer explode).

Yea, like i said, sorry for being harsh. Your first post sold me on this level so well i was expectig something phenominal I actually thought the boiler room looked nice too, and i thought the coolest cutscene was the one of his hand grinding against the pipes. It is indeed the best freddy level out there. Take my other post with a grain of salt.2010-03-21 14:38:00

Thanks mate.

I understand it's not the best playable level out there, but that was never my intention. I just wanted to make the best freddy level out there with familiar scenery and I think I succeed in that.

When you want superb gameplay , indeed look somewhere else. But if you're a freddy fan you'll love this :-)

I'm not a huge freddy fan, but I could tell this level was pretty good. I know what Freddy Kreuger looks like and stuff, so yeah.

Visually, this level was great, especially the boiler room. But it was also kind of inconsistent. Some sections looked great while others look very lazy, particularly the chase scene. Perhaps if you went in there with the corner editing tool and messed up the ground a little bit, making things a bit more uneven, it would be better. Also, Freddy looks very cartoony, but the tone of this level is never really made clear. Is it supposed to be cartoony like that? Anyway, I thought the cutscenes were cool. However, the last cutscene (the one in the boiler room where Freddy walks by and you see his face) is kind of silly. I don't know much about Freddy, but the one thing I do know is that he has a very concave face.
I'm not gonna talk about gameplay because this is a Nightmare on Elmstreet tribute level, and gameplay isn't very important here, it's more about the surroundings. Anyway, I thought this was pretty cool. I didn't quite understand the ending, though I probably would have if I had watched the movie. I gave it 4 stars.

Oh, anyway, what happens when you grab freddy's hand at the end? All that happened was some stuff lit up. Then I played through again and realized I didn't need to grab it to beat the level. Weird...

When you get the time, could you try my level, WaffleWorld Prologue?

I will try your level tomorrow ! And of course every other person who comments :-)

Thanks for the feedback!

I understand the freddy face, it indeed needs a bit more work with corner editor tool. I will see what I can do there.

Yeah the idea was just that as a bonus when you touch the hand, the oven in the boiler room lit up meaning freddy's home :-)
i didn't have the thermometer space to put a climatic battle in there , that's why I said to be continued in the movie

Okay, I see that I got pretty far after all! Visuals are the main standing point in this level, and Even though I haven't ever watched a Nightmare on Elm street movie I can tell that freddy was recognizeable(spelling?).

The first chase scene was a bit illogical, since the medieval wall looks unfitting for the horror mood. It would be better if you made your own bricks with the grid and put them together, but I guess the thermo wouldn't allow that. The cutscenes are well made, but I got stuck after the cutscene where Freddy looks past your eyes. I figured it had something to do with the sponge blocks, but dummy me went to build a bridge to get to some scenery on the left of the fiery rolling logs, but of course I lost all of my lives in the process and didn't want to play it again.

Also, I did play this level yesterday but didn't post until now. I see it didn't prove any problems so... whatever.

I'm about to play it, I think I played your first one, and I really liked it, so expect a good rating from me.

EDIT: I just played it, it was fun playing, I always like playing horror levels. The gameplay was light but I'm okay with that, and I liked the house at the beginning. So overall, it was a pretty decent level.

all you had to do was just jump onto the cubes and from there on to the swinging sponges across the deadly red smoke , nothing really difficult , btw you're at 80% of the level at that point 2010-03-22 22:04:00

Hey there!

So I played your level and I thought it was...ummm cute. I say that cuz it was a bit too cartoony...that being said I rated it 4 stars and gave it a tag of tricky which was a slip of the thumb. I would have given it a cute tag.

Reason:

It had some cool sets and moments. Your cut scenes were cool but they are missing sound and some sparks on his hand would look cool too. I did think you needed more platform or puzzle bits. I know this was more of a refresher course to prepare for the movie.

I think if you have the thermo put in the sound and sparks.

Please play Part 2 of my BORG Saga.

Thanks

hey, you're absolutely right about the sparks. I actually had such an idea to use tiny yellow lights as sparks emitted when his hand scratches the pipes, but had some fears that it would look a bit goofy and didn't had the guts to put it in.

I already added some extra sound effects and some music in the boiler room area and will see if I can add those spark effects in there.

Positives:
The house looks really nice, and you did a decent job of adding decorations to your level. I liked the lighting effect and Freddy sillouette in the yard in front of the house. There were a lot of nice ideas you had on making different version of the Freddy character. I thought it was clever how you had front views, side views, hands, etc. I think you did a really nice job of decorating the bioler room.

Suggestions:
You've got some nice ideas on decorating, but I thought the overall base terrain was a little bland. Generally, 3 layer deep flat shapes end up making any level look bland, regardless of how many stickers and decorations you use. Really, not much you can do now with a full thermometer, but it's something to keep in mind for the future. There were several places where I wasn't quite sure what I supposed to do. For instance once I got to the bathtub, I had to accidentally figure out how to grab the bottom of the tub. Having hidden grabs is great for hidden areas, but it will frustrate a lot of players to have to look for hidden grabs to continue through the normal play of a level. Once in the flooded basement there I didn't know what to do, so I randomly grabbed the black thing, and was killed for some reason. My point here, is I really didn't know what the black thing was or why it was supposed to kill me. (Oops, I just reread your level post, and you pointed out I had to grab the black thingy to get the water to lower. However, I was simply killed and the water never dropped. I did this twice) I thought the knife hand across the pipe was a nice effect, but you should consider adding a metallic scratching sound effect. Having regular checkpoints in the boiler room is a little frustrating, you should consider using unlimited checkpoints so people won't have to play through your entire level each time they try a new area. I would also add a few more checkpoints. Having to start over from the boiler room is a lot to ask of anyone to do over if they were to die near the end.

The concept was cute, and you had some nice ideas, but overall it seemed to lack polish. I would like to see you keep making levels though, as this level shows you have great promise as a creator.

I gave it 3/5 stars for a solid effort.

Why I am I not suprised that you made a Nightmare on Elmstreet level for the upcoming movie. ^_^

I've played most of your scary levels a long time ago and I loved them. Considering that the Nightmare On Elmstreet series is among my favorite horror movies of all time and I'm looking forward to the *hope it doesn't turn out bad* remake, I'm looking forward to this.

Hi there! It's always great to meet other fans :-) It's a bit rare to meet a girl that loves Freddy as much as I do so thanks for replying :-)

I do hope you liked the new little big planet level, I've put a lot of effort into this new version.

As for the movie, I've added you as a friend on this forum so we can exchange opinions after we've seen it both :-)
From what I have noticed so far, it's a more gritty remake where the producers are going back to 'evil' freddy (like in the original 1). Only complaint from what I've read so far is that the movie relies a bit too much on jump scares.

The main actress (new nancy) is actually not really that much in the picture except for the second part of the movie but from what I hear she's very good at her role.

Looking forward to it as well :-)

by the way, I'm really happy you enjoyed all my scary levels and will give you a hint at what's to come: a SAW level!
that's right, my own incarnation of a saw level is coming to lbp servers.

I already wrote the entire story for the level, designed the traps so it's just a matter of creating now. My goal is (as with the freddy remake) to create the best saw based level on LBP so far. I am certainly going to try

talk to you soon!

Okay, I played it and had you confused for someone else.

When I said I was a fan I thought you had done the 3 or 4 other Freddy levels for each movie, but apparently that was cmb840, and someone else that had other scary levels like a Jason one who I can't remember.

Sorry for the mix up, although I have played the other levels of yours long while back, but not the Freddy one. I played your original first when I noticed you had only 1 other Freddy level, since I could of sworn you had more. But after seeing your Freddy level I knew it wasn't you because, no offense, but it was bad.

So I went on to the new one, and well . . . it was way better, although it still lacks compared to the ones from cmb840. I'd say the boiler room parts were the best in the level. The house didn't look bad either. But the level wasn't very scary.

For improvements I don't know what to say really. Try cmb840's freddy levels sometime. They're pretty good and might give you an idea on what you would have to top to make the best freddy levels on LBPC.

But overall it wasn't bad. You've definitly improved. I gave it 3 stars.

As for a girl that loves Freddy as much as you do, I doubt I'm that girl. I wouldn't say I'm a fan, as in I don't own anything like say posters or other items, etc, nor would I want to. I just simply love the movies. Some of the best horror stuff, classics!

As for the new one relying on jump scares . . . that's good for me. Well okay, as long as it's not all jump scares. Drawn out grinding scares are a must since this is a remake of the orignal Nightmare On Elm Street. Jump scare type movies are my favorite, which is why Drag Me To Hell is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen, which is suprising since it's hard to find a good horror movie now days. But all scary movies have the jump scare parts.

Yes drag me to hell is also a great movie (have it on blu ray at home).

Anyways, on topic: thanks a lot for the feedback! I will be checking out the other freddy levels you mentioned as you made me curious about those.
Definately want to create the best freddy level so if it's still not the best I'll create an even better one in the future

Oh, I just noticed in my last message I said in reference to your level 'It was very scary'. I meant to say it was not very scary, lol. Sorry for that. I better edit that. And good luck with future attempts. ^_~2010-04-08 18:37:00

No problem, it was not meant to be very scary, just to warm people up for the movie and show some nice cutscenes / details. Did you know that when you wait at the bathtub, and you see the lady in the water, if you wait long enough freddy's glove comes out of the water? most people skip the scene because they think it 's just a picture of the lady but it continues if you wait a few more seconds.

I also played the other freddy level's you suggested, but I don't feel they do the movies more justice than mine. They seem way too cartoonish (a giant freddy, and freddy's locked in the basement? that's not true to the movies at all. When you compare the freddy house mine is two classes more detailed so I believe I won that contest
