How to solicit feedback?

Archive: 3 posts

I'm working on my first level and I was curious if and how creators solicit feedback on works-in-progress. Is it acceptable to publish incomplete levels? While I can see the benefit of a critique, I'd hate for someone to download the level with the expectation of a complete gameplay experience.

That said, this community is so helpful and supportive that I'd really appreciate their advice on what currently exists of my level. Since I'm new here, I wanted to ask if this is a common practice among creators. Or do you all wait until the level is "done" before you publish and request feedback?

I saw a previous post where the creator included a video of his work-in-progress. Is that the preferred method?

Thanks in advance for helping me learn the ropes here.

Hey Monkey! (Or do you prefer NGM? )

I'm working on my first level and I was curious if and how creators solicit feedback on works-in-progress. Is it acceptable to publish incomplete levels? While I can see the benefit of a critique, I'd hate for someone to download the level with the expectation of a complete gameplay experience.A good question and a reasonable concern. The way to approach a work-in-progress is to post it in the Ideas and Projects (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?93-%5BPSP%5D-Ideas-and-Projects) section. Full levels aren't (and shouldn't really be) posted there, and people looking for complete levels will be looking in the Level and Object Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?106-%5BPSP%5D-Level-and-Object-Showcase) anyway.

That said, this community is so helpful and supportive that I'd really appreciate their advice on what currently exists of my level. Since I'm new here, I wanted to ask if this is a common practice among creators. Or do you all wait until the level is "done" before you publish and request feedback?Well hey, thanks for the kind words! We try.

Yes, it is a fairly common practice to post works-in-progress, especially if you're looking for early feedback before potentially building a whole level the wrong way. However, most creators prefer to post complete levels in the aforementioned Showcase and gather feedback there using the F4F (feedback for feedback) system. From there, you can adjust and republish your complete level freely based on the feedback you receive.

I saw a previous post where the creator included a video of his work-in-progress. Is that the preferred method? That's actually the first time I've seen that done for a PSP level. I like that approach a lot, but most people are fine with simply playing a level (or part of one) to get a feel for it.

Thanks in advance for helping me learn the ropes here.No problem, and glad to have you around.

Taffey,
Many thanks for the thoughtful reply! I'll be posting some work-in-progress in the next day or two. I look forward to the community's critiques.
