One Eyed Mummy's Curse: Golden Death BedOneEyedBanshee http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb6.jpgAs a hardened explorer you find myths of an ancient curse stopping those who try to take the treasures from King Ban Shis tomb laughable. Why no one has claimed them yet your not sure.. but it's time to enter and find out! Hey everyone! I published my latest level and would greatly appreciate if you could check it out! You run through a pyramid of sorts with lot's of death traps and such. Towards the end there is a platform, avoiding it will take you to a boss and then finish the level. Take it and you will be presented with twice as much level but ten times the challenge! I'd rate it as very hard too if you like a challenge! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-3CVK9g4YA UPDATED Version Easy Path Play Through: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvdRqz1Pdko http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/Tomb6.jpg http://lbp.me/v/rq6f1e | 2010-03-19 04:00:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
some reallly great gameplay here. I think you had a lot of good ideas and you managed to fit a lot into one level. I liked the route choice idea and you fitted your puzzles in well with the theme. the main thing that lets you down is the visuals. You need to do more with lighting and vary the materials a bit. A few more decorations and stickers around would help too. the level is really lacking in atmosphere. Mix the patterned wall with a plainer material. Spent a couple of hours adding lights, global lighting switches, material switches, stickers (cracks, smudges, occaisional leaves, etc etc) and you've got a very good level here. adi | 2010-03-21 01:17:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |
Thank you very much for the review. As you said I fit a lot into the level so the thermometer is on the verge of exploding! If I could I would spruce it up visually because this is the main complaint, I will go back and see if I can do something. I'm sure I can get some extra stickers in there. Lighting takes up a bit more thermo so I might have to try finding something to delete. The hidden pig boss is one thing I could get rid of as it's unnecessary.. BUT I like it.. a lot.. so I think it has to stay! Do you think the scorpion would be missed? It's hard to see the whole thing anyway and it's pretty easy, it also eats a little chunk of the thermometer so it might allow me to add some extra visual tweaks if I get rid of him. This might make the desert style bit more boring but possibly appreciate the layer glitch stuff more.. Hmm what to do? | 2010-03-21 04:59:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Well, you KNOW I'm gonna play this one... Geeeeez.... how many hours are you in an empty room!?!? I'm looking forward to this one. Keep creating Banshee... you obviously are passionate about it (14 hours a day?). Keep it up. | 2010-03-21 05:14:00 Author: cdubb024 Posts: 247 |
Haha, I know. Today was particularly disgusting. I can't help it I love creating levels in LBP! The next level is already underway! But I am going back to Mummy's Curse tomorrow..(today?) lol after I get some much needed sleep. | 2010-03-21 06:40:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Remember that there are 7 different thermos though. I seriously doubt your stickers thermo and materials thermo are even half full (unless im missing somehting!) you could make a lot of changes in certain areas without raising it. Now I agree lighting might cost you a bit - as might the globals, but if you can afford it I really do think its worth adding some visual variety. think of it this way - would you rather play a long level that looks amazing, or an epicly long level that looks good? adi | 2010-03-21 08:33:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |
Ok I added some lights and changed a few materials here and there. I had to axe some things like the scorpion, a spike area that was a bit pointless and some score bubbles. It freed up just enough thermo to light the place up and make it look more like your in a tomb with no natural light. I added crack stickers and some decortaions aswell. I can probably add more I just don't know where yet. | 2010-03-21 23:28:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |

very cool level I wanted to go hard way but that flaming jump part was just not possible I could not see what I was doing. | 2010-03-24 01:12:00 Author: Xeno_Destroyer Posts: 72 |
thatsa freakin cool snake | 2010-03-24 01:27:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
Thanks! I'm not sure how many people actually got to the snake even, top scores are friends who I know did get to the end but after that all scores are quite low which implies they didn't beat the hard way which ends with a race so their score would have to be a bit higher! Xeno_Destroyer as for the fire bit, you just have to back up and then make a maximum jump, usually works. Although I will go and see if I can add a cam to help. EDIT: Eh I went and looked and realised there is quite a few fire jump bits.. I'll list a few and if you can point it out which one it might be I'd really appreciate it! A) After pulling the switch to lower a rotating sponge and going up you are greeted by a fire jump. B) Confined area above rotating sponges with lots of fire stuffs to avoid. Not necessarily a big fire jump but there's jumping and fire so who knows. C)After sliding down glass there's spikes at the end you have to jump and there's a fire thing, but I can't see it being this one becuase there's a sponge to help. D)Just after race there's a crushing part followed by fire, you have to pull off 2 long jumps perfectly to get past that, it's probably the hardest part to avoid death on well I think so anyway. E)Near the end of the race and after activating the only checkpoint in the race a block pushes you towards fire very fast you have to jump, then jump again and bounce on fire to get past that bit. F)Just before A you hang on a ceiling sponge you have to swing across monkey bar style followed by a sponge on fire you have to bounce off to reach another sponge. G) wow theres a lot of fire XD but back at the rotating sponges half of them have chunks on fire. This can be tricky, I did add a cam I though helped but is it there? You really have to beat this one the hard way, that's where it's at! | 2010-03-24 01:55:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
It was the first one at 1:50 on the video. Me and a friend just sat there trying over and over but we just could not get past it so we just gave up and went back for the easy path. We could get up one or two jumps but could not see where we are behind all the fire so. | 2010-03-24 14:19:00 Author: Xeno_Destroyer Posts: 72 |
Oh! THAT one! Well I have a fixed cam there so the angle shouldn't be going all over the place if someone dies and spawns right next to it. The trick is just getting the rhythm right. Small jumps to just go high enough but not bump your head off a fire block above and then jump up right before a fire block is coming from your side. It's in the timing. The hard way is possible multiplayer as I've done it myself but it's much more enjoyable single player given the nature of the camera with multiple players in this game not that that was the issue here, later on it gets a bit funky. If you decide to go back let me know if you get past it! | 2010-03-24 15:19:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Hey there! I was the friend playing with Xeno and the camera wasn't the problem...the fire was. We could get up a couple steps but then you are behind the block and with all the fire in front of you we couldn't see when the next fire block was coming. We tried for a couple minutes...but got frustrated and just restarted and finished the easy way. If I may suggest you might make it so people can go back if they cant continue forward as we did. I felt double punished that I couldn't go forward and then the design prevented me from going back. I liked your environment and puzzle and platform elements were good...I liked the light reflected puzzle. Please play Part 2 of my BORG Saga...Thanks I rated it 4 stars (I think I was game leader...sorry I played alot of levels yesterday and gave it a platform tag (I think | 2010-03-24 15:33:00 Author: AJnKnox Posts: 518 |
There is a highly distinct pattern to the fire blocks movements so not being able to see your sack shouldn't really be a problem. I've had people tell me it's impossible a few times but at this stage I can pretty much climb the steps first try. So there is a trick to it. The idea of being able to return is pretty interesting, I'm not sure if the thermometer will let me but I'll see what I can do. Ok I'll check out your level when I'm on.. which should be in 2 seconds! | 2010-03-24 15:39:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Okay, I'm playing through this level and it looks great. The light puzzle was awesome. First one of its kind that I've encountered so it was fresh for me. I got through everything after that okay up until the part where theres a 2x player balancing puzzle. The path above it doesn't work. I pressed the button but nothing happens. I tried jumping in the pit several times to different spots hoping that there's an invisible platform somewhere but nothing to help me cross the gas pit. I see a long block in the pit though, although it's just staying put lol. My guess is that you removed the gas pit to fix/tweak something then you put it back and glued it along with the long block without realizing. I have to exit for now, as I dunno what else to do. PM me when you get it fixed, I would gladly play it again to see what else this so far ingenious level has to offer! I'm giving it a 4/5 stars for now Edit: Wow LBPcentral totally deleted what I edited. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Well to sum it all up, the buttons work. I picked the hard route and my my was it hard. If I didn't time it correctly, I felt the burn for it later... literally. I managed to get to the end (I hope it was the end) but after the lights turned out and the ground collapsed, I died in gas as I was falling and now I can't see a thing. I tried making my way back by memory but I think something's blocking me off. Sigh, it's such a bummer. I tried so hard to get to the end too. Oh well. The gameplay was hard but rewarding (except that last part). The hardest part for me was the spinning sponges. I'm gonna have to stick with a 4/5 because that part at the end really bummed me out. I'll play this again in the future with some friends and take the easy route with a grain of salt lol. This level gave me some new ideas for future levels, so thanks for that. I highly suggest you look into that part where I got stuck because other players won't take it as well as I have and give you a low rating out of frustration. | 2010-04-14 03:14:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Cheers Tran I will look into that. Curious were you in or outside the treasure room? I have a door fall down and that's supposed to lock the player in but there isn't much stopping them running back out quickly. The gas is supposed to come down on anyone who stays behind, specifically for the case of online, I never imagined 1 person would remain at the top. I am actually not sure what happens then checkpoint wise, I don't have much thermo to play with but I'll see if I can activate the scoreboard by switch so if someone dies they respawn and finish at least. But then the ending would be missed. I'll sleep on it and fix it tomorrow. Really sorry you didn't get to witness the end, I know it takes ages to get there and greeted by that glitch must've sucked. | 2010-04-14 05:34:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Lol yeah.. it did suck lol. I was inside the treasure room. I was also jumping around. My guess is that I jumped on something when the ground collapsed or I jumped at the right time to get demolished by the gas coming down. It was too dark for me to see but yeah, it sucked pretty bad LOL. :'( | 2010-04-14 05:51:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Ok I think it's fixed now, just hope nothing else decided to break as I haven't touched the level in a while. You must have jumped on the treasure and then into gas. I blocked treasure off now so it can't be jumped on and there's a mini checkpoint too in case some freak accident does kill someone. Plus the ending is viewable too so it should be ok if you ever decide to reattempt the hard path. | 2010-04-14 18:09:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
I'll give it another shot tonight Edit: Gave it another shot. Finished both easy and hard. Easy was well, very easy lol. Hard is very hard. But I've gotten used to most of the tricks and traps so I think I made it through a third of the time compared to my first attempt. One thing though, the spinning sponges part.. I fell from one of the top sponges and landed by one of the checkpoints at the bottom. So I had to make my way up top again. That wasn't fun lol. Maybe make it so if you touch the CP on the sponges then the CP at the bottom gets removed somehow. Anyway, I was able to see the ending this time, hurrah! And I was able to upload my score onto the scoreboard. Lol, I knew it! The scoreboard was just right there. Ugh, oh well, I"m glad I finished it. Great level all around. | 2010-04-15 02:32:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
