I Need Some Opinoins

Archive: 13 posts

I'm in a bit of a pickle. I need some opinons on which character style I should use.

This cartoon style which kind of leans toward MM's design.

Or this more realistic style, which I made beacause I'm a fan of the Ghostbusters.

Wow! Those character designs are amazing! I also like the cartoon style more. They seem to have more personality. Either way though, they all look great! Keep up the good work and let me know if you publish a level with these in them!2010-03-19 05:35:00

First off, all of those look really good! I am very impressed and are much better than anything I could make.

I feel it really depends on the level you are making. I feel like that should be what is your deciding factor.

I'd say it depends on the kind of level you're making.

The advantage of the cartoon/caricature style is you have a lot more leeway in the design, whereas with the realistic style, it's clearly going to look either right or wrong.

They are all excelent. I wish I could make characters like that. I'm hopeless at them.

I would definitely go for the realistic ones though, they are brilliant. I really need to make some like that for my new level. I'll have to try, and seeing yours has inspired me.

I hate the Mm cartoony look anyway so I wouldn't make them like that even if I could.

they are very good but i like the cartoony ones better. they make me feel like playing a new level, because the other ones already have a story to them. keep up the good work.2010-03-19 14:03:00

Well both are great for starters.
But in my opinion I would the cartoon characters as LBP is quite cartoonish by nature and no matter how much effort is put into making realistic characters they will always look cartoonish and as someone has said before the cartoon ones have more personality. Hope this helps.

I like both designs!

But I think which you use should be dictated by the level your making. If your level is serious (as serious as you can in LBP) then you should go for that look and feel.

That said I do like the cartoon ones as well, but they give off a totally different vibe then the others...just use whats appropriate to the atmosphere and vibe of the current level.

Good luck!
