The Jabberwocky

Archive: 7 posts

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Okay, so it's been done before.

The Jabberwocky is my favorite poem of all time and I plan to make a level surrounding its story. You know, being a brave knight with the vorpal sword, snicker-snack and whatnot.

I haven't actually made anything, of course. Hahaha. I will publish a level sometime. Yes. I will. This will be it!

So, anyone have ideas for like puzzles, decor? The Jabberwocky's design? Interpretations of the poem's nonsense words? Gracias amigos!

Well, there was a contest sometime ago for the best level surrounding this very poem. There were some fantastic entries, and my personal favorite was 'Beware the Jabberwock' by elvenbane.2010-03-19 00:52:00

Doesn't mean you can't do it! Please, go ahead and do it! It can still be a great level!

bah. as long as you dont represent it as the first one, or, you know, blatantly rip off the other peoples level mechanics and or flow, its all good. You'd be surprised how many completely (underlined for emphasis!) different levels you'd get if every creator started off with the same idea.

besides, you shouldn't make a level on the basis that other people would think is the greatest thing since sliced cheese (yay lbp reference). You should make something that you like.

Oh, I wouldn't do anything of the sort... I played through a couple of the contest entry levels just to see what I have to measure up to, haha.2010-03-21 04:34:00
