Placing Score and Prize Bubbles

Archive: 16 posts

What is the best practice of placing floating score and prize bubbles? Do you suspend them with string attached to an off-screen object? Do you glue them to an invisible background object? Or is there another, superior method?

Many thanks for your input on this very basic question!

I believe the best method is to glue it to an existing object in the background. If there's nothing in the bg, I would attach it to a rod instead of an invisible object so that you don't waste the "shapes" thermo.2010-03-18 23:36:00

Eh, not exactly. Can you make rods invisible in the PSP version?Yep! You can.

javi's original answer is mostly correct, except for the "invisible material" bit... because you can no longer make invisible material after the 2.03 (strawberry cheesecake) update.

Personally, I glue score bubbles whenever I can. The PSP does not seem to suffer the same catastrophic ungluing bugs occasionally found on the PS3, so it works quite well in practice. Whenever I need to have bubbles in mid air, I use invisible rods. I don't like to use string as the bubbles remain dynamic and will take up more thermo than is necessary. Also, bubbles on string can amplify lag issues if you happen to have them.

Dumb question: Is there an completely invisible material in LBP PSP?2010-03-19 01:54:00

I've just realized, but you can still make invisible materials on lbp psp.

Well, you know how I told you guys how I made invisible material?
Well, I checked out the threads and found out I created invisible material a different way.

You know how people did the corner editing way?
Well, I was using the "Change Material" thingy the whole time XD hahah.

So, I guess the invisible material glitch stopped working with one method, but it still works using my method

Well, it's simple.
Use the "Change Material" thingy on any material.
Although While the material changes, quickly press start. You know it works if the material didn't show up while on start.
Go to play mode and save changes.
And there you go, invisible material.

By the way, proof on "R.I.P. Sack" because I made that level after the 2.03 update.

I Try to avoid gluing as much as possible. Most of the time because there's something in the back ground and I can't exactly pull either out of the way. The result is everything being glued together in one big mess.2010-03-19 03:16:00

Dumb question: Is there an completely invisible material in LBP PSP?No, there isn't. Unlike the PS3's dark matter and rubber, there are no materials on the PSP that will disappear if shrunk down far enough.

Spark's method is the way to go. I'm glad this glitch feature still exists! :hero:

Thanks Spark! When I first knew about the invisible material glitch, I wasn't much interested in it. It was only after it got fixed that I started realising all the things I wanted invisible material for. Using your method, I have just made a very satisfying Star Wars speeder bike.2010-03-19 12:39:00

Thank you SO MUCH Spark! I'm very glad that we'll still be able to make invisible materials.2010-03-19 13:02:00

Now all we have to do is keep this quiet and away from the watchful eyes of Cambridge. If they find out, they might patch it!

NOPE, NO INVISIBLE MATERIALS HERE. JUST REGULAR VISIBLE STUFF. *whistles innocently*

Thank you everyone for the prompt and helpful replies. I must admit some hesitation to rely on an exploit to create an invisible material. I'd hate to see the exploit fixed in a patch and "break" my level.2010-03-20 05:34:00
