Having a little piston sway trouble

Archive: 9 posts

Hey everyone.

Just need a little insight from you wonderfull people.

I have a little car that runs across a track of dark matter above the level. I have pistons attached to the car which are attached to an object - which allows the object to move across the level and go down or up by activating the pistons.

The problem I'm having unfortunately is that when the object moves across, it sways and moves about. I've tried things such as adding more pistons and moving the track lower to eliminate the problem but its been ineffective.

Originally I had a DM -> block-> Object
setup, but this was even worse as it was unstable and sometimes sagged.

So any suggestions? Much appreciated

Do you think Making the car bigger would work? Is it not the physics and the weight of the object that causes it to sway? Ill give it a try.2010-03-18 21:48:00

It's a bit counter-intuitive, but the size/mass of objects in lbp affects the strength of connectors, such as pistons. So, yes, making the car bigger and/or heavier will make your piston stronger.2010-03-18 22:12:00

Having pistons set to 'stiff' helps as well.

The type of material does seems to be an issue as well. I found this out when I had a piston connected to a platform with a second platform and piston connected to that platform. If the intermediate platform material was a light material, it seemed the top piston just did not have any power to lift anything at all. However - changing the connecting material to a heavy-type material solved it. Very odd.
